    I’ve been going there from when I was 9 to when I was 18. The first time there was a Thomas scene in Carey’s window and the toilet door was open in it. 2 years after I thought I saw a plant jar with water plants in the Co Op before using Catherine’s Patisserie toilets.

      @@trevor311264 Yes that's how they're paid. A driver who works 30 hours a week get the exact same wage as one who works 59. You are told not to come in the next day if you go over the 60 hour single work week limit or the combined two week limit so most drivers rush to get done in time to keep the bosses off their back. This is completely standard in all bread delivery, I've worked in various different bread companies.

      @@LawrenciuM709 If you work like that then you need to think about how much you value your time and you LGV licence. Quite frankly I would rather stack shelves than do that. I have been driving for the same company for 30 years and I would not do that for anyone that expected that kind of nonsense. And having looked at the jobs advertised for them, that would mean if you did a 60 hour week you would be nearly on minimum wage for that week.

      Moto Matt OnComics only started riding it recently so not done that one yet but I'd imagine so. On thin road bike tyres (25mm) you can feel the wheel slipping into the gaps between the paving so I'd put good money on that slipping being a whole lot worse in the wet! It's also a surface that is easiest to ride on a road bike (without suspension) at speed - you skim over the top. That or at walking pace....

    Crap riding for a motorcyclist who at least as much as you would know that a car like that posed a threat. You look at the person ahead of you and what they're up against - especially if overtaking. I rode motorcycles for 10 years and I know for a fact you don't fall off if you slow down.

  • @jezzamatic
    @jezzamatic 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    To be fair you did change road position 3 times (each time with a life saver check which is more than I can say I've seen cyclists do in Bristol so awesome awareness dude) and correct position for a cycle if there's no obstruction is to the left of centre, I saw you move over to give a car space but didn't move back in and by then the bike was past and beeped...... Perhaps you should have moved in sooner but as a biker you left plenty of room, certainly wasn't riding erratic and seemed perfectly safe so I think he was just being a dick. From personal experience I'm so jaded with cyclist's I have no confidence in them knowing what's around them and them staying in a reasonable road position so I give them wide birth, So many are focused on the task of peddling at the detriment to their safety it boggles my mind on my motorbike commute to and from work. I'm sure similar can be said for some bikers as they can be overly aggressive in their riding style but there's usually a lot of training, money and time gone into getting a full licence and with a push bike there is nothing in place and it shows on the road. Sorry for the long reply but it's great to see a good cyclist on the road.

    • @joethecyclist1
      @joethecyclist1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I take your point - I wish i'd had the camera setup at the right angle however as that car on my left had recently pulled into that space and positioned himself such that it appeared he was going to either turn around (my thinking) or pull out again very soon after and I didn't want to be too close to all that! I should have moved back over sooner but to be fair I hadn't clocked that the biker was there.... Trust me, I see both those bikers and cyclists you mention each day on my commute as well - they'll learn their lesson one day!

  • @yangtse55
    @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I struggle to see myself ever riding anything else - even though on a daily basis I'm always on tarmac, the surface can get surprisingly rough, and my available level of concentration is often less than its should be (or rather I want to be able to enjoy the ride), so it's good to have fattish tyres, good brakes and manoeuvrability. That, plus I'm rather heavy and I carry stuff... And I'm always surprised to see canal paths touted as practical commuting routes !

    • @joethecyclist1
      @joethecyclist1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see the relaxing nature of a MTB for commuting. This video was more to show that road bikes can handle a lot more than you'd expect (even with full road pressures) and aren't as fragile as you might imagine!

  • @yangtse55
    @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel so lucky with my commute - except that the handful of cars I encounter on a daily basis often seem to feel they have a right to maintain 30MPH at all times and like to drive up close at 15mph to express their disdain. I suppose this demonstrates why they're happy to drive so close to other vehicles - because they're used to doing it - and hence why whenever they escape the traffic for even 100 yards they want to step on the gas ...

  • @yangtse55
    @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's about time they dealt with those horrible rubber speed-bumps - and the ones by UWE are seriously annoying too - though I almost always manage to exit in excess of 20MPH without any effort.

    • @joethecyclist1
      @joethecyclist1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. The mini slalom ones on that hill (in the video) aren't much fun either...But I can understand there want to slow everyone down a bit, it's a place to be shared!

    • @yangtse55
      @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Landers yes- even I'm a bit naughty sometimes ;-) But it's difficult when there's a Westerly wind wanting to carry me all the way home along the Avon valley ! I'm very lucky in that when I have my picnics in the old festival field, I've slowly hauled my way up there - via Redland to pick up some nibbles and it's downhill all the way home. :-)

  • @yangtse55
    @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the path for ? It's on the downhill side of the road. As for the driving ... evolution working backwards ...

    • @joethecyclist1

      Takes some finding (especially since the google link page is a broken link...) www.n-somerset.gov.uk/Transport/travel/Cycling/Documents/Pill%20to%20Abbots%20Leigh%20walkcycle%20leaflet%20(pdf).pdf - I'm not entirely convinced it's going to give the benefits they think it will, but I hope to be converted. The road route is no fun!

  • @yangtse55
    @yangtse55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Everyman his own road roller" to paraphrase a DIY book from a bygone age. Horrible though it is for cyclists until the job's finished and we've had a decent amount of rain to clean it up, there is the thought of it damaging the paintwork and carpets of wheel-spinning boy racers' German cars ... Meanwhile South Glos have been carefully masking the kerbs and covers with gaffer tape and pro-actively sealing the pavements in a part of Fishponds with tar.
