BMW R1200 GS Adventure fuel gauge fix using float type sender
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Fuel Sender conversion for 2008 R1200 GS Adventure This procedure eliminates the existing and flawed, fuel strip sender, replacing it with a float type sender. No calibration appears to be needed. The plug for the new sender fits directly in to the wiring socket of the original sender. I used information from the following forum pages - www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/509657-Fuel-strip-to-...
2008 BMW R1200 GS Adv Binding rear caliper
มุมมอง 10K7 ปีที่แล้ว
My bike recently failed its UK MOT (Road worthy test) due to a binding rear caliper. I had replaced the rear disc due to it being warped and I could feel pulsing through the brake lever. With new rear disc (Brembo) and new pads (Ferodo) I now have this binding issue which I cannot resolve. The caliper has been rebuilt using new seals (Brembo), stainless retaining pin and stainless bleed nipple ...

Hello 999fugazi, i have done all the steps shown in this video. But i dont have the motoscan, can i use the hex gs-911 wigi tool?

Don't see why not, but I don't have experience with that tool. The Motoscan software is a budget version of the GS911, so it should have all the functionality, if not more, than Motoscan. If you have the GS911, try contacting their support?

Nice work. My R1200GS 2009 with 90,000 miles has flat spots as well. Where did you find replacement pins? Dealers do not carry them even though we can take them out. Thanks

Hi, isit good for 07 GS?

    • @999fugazi
      @999fugazi ปีที่แล้ว

No.. You need to find if the later models of the GS came with the mechanical sender from the factory. And the wiring may be different pins etc. So you would need later wriing diagram also.

Good morning Sir, I am the proud owner of a BMW R1200 GS adventure 2010 model. I have watched your video as I’m am having the same trouble that you have shown. Could you please let me know where you found all the info to change out the furl strip to a float fuel sender. My bike is 10 years old and the local BMW dealer wont help me as it is a 12 year old bike which has really pissed me off. So your help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time. I can confirm it works on my bike, GSA from 2009. I followed exactly the steps, and I get rid of that exceptionally piece of german engineering, fuel strip, another thing which is inteligent but not smart. Thank you for the video.

Great Video. I have been investigating this, but it seems people have the same problem as you after they hit a half tank it stays then drops off. Here is a video of someone who did it, but used an electronic adaptor to avoid the wiring and programming. He had the same problem as you. Did you ever get your half tank fuel level issue resolved? Here is the video I am referring to: th-cam.com/video/bP7uZE31XFQ/w-d-xo.html

There is a hose inside, which can be in the way of the level sensor, if you let that lose. That must be arranged in the way not to interfere with the sensor.

@@mihaicarstea773 I wonder if that is the fuel syphon hose that feeds the fuel from the right side of tank to the left side through syphon effect? If this hose can be re-routed maybe this will not foul the float/level arm?

Now sorted. I took tank of and put it on the bench. Drained fuel and dropped s torch in there so I could see what's going on. The float was hitting a shelf on the left. I tried a piece of string to the float to pull it up and down and made tiny adjustments to the float arm to allow the float to go fully up and down without fouling the shelf. Now working fine. It's worth the time and effort, probably took 2 hours all in

Yay Yay Yay YAY! Just finished on my 08 GSA ...."My Hat" is off to you! WORKED PERFECTLY! Thanks for all the effort & documentation....This solved 2 warranted fuel strip replacements in 18 months.....yes recently 2019/2020......when they said "No Mas" .....performed the upgrade to float sender......AND...YES why didn't BMW do this sooner! ......You Rock!

Hey, well done on doing the job. One thing I have noticed is I think my float may need adjustment in the tank, as Im getting to half way and it seems to stay at that level and then suddenly it will go to reserve. Just keep an eye on it for a while...

@@999fugazi Agreed....I put 4.5 gal in and read about 2/3 full....which would be about right?...went for a ride and filled up...... went to full..YAY! AND I did spend time adjusting the angle on the float (side to side) during installation as it appeared to be rubbing the side of the tank and hanging up? Will report back after a few tank fulls & when I go below 1/2 tank! ;-)

Managed to solve the problem by swapping out the whole caliper for a low mile used one. Looked exactly the same as the original but worked straight after a bleed and has continued to do so with good pad and disc wear pattern
