My review and thoughts on my 98 mk1 Suzuki Bandit 1200n after roughly 6 months and 2500 miles . Beautiful sunny spring afternoon spin from Knockvicer along the Ardcarne rd , n4 and Boyle town Co. Just bought a nice 2002 bandit 1200 can’t wait to ride it
Nice ! Hope you are well .
Obrigado, me ajudou muito parabéns
I had a Bandit 1200 N 1996 Midnight blue. A good rear shock & front folks set up. Full Micron zorst system. Awesome. More grunt than 1000 pigs, super smooth. 212 KG 98 BHP std Slingshot carbs. 72 Lb torque @ 3,500 40mpg Genuine 140 mph. 33,000 mls when i sold it. Loved it, I still rate it 100% now. 1st Gen was the best.
Great video. I just got the 650 from m 2006. It is my second bike and I like it. Take care bro. Cheers. Enjoyed. Drop by to check my content. Cheers.
Great video mate. I have a 650 k5 bandit and I love it
thank you. from france. my honda varadero 1000, s'étouffait à 140 km/h. je vais faire ce réglage demain. thank you for ,this tuto bye!!
Nice! I'm in the midst of restoring my '97 1200 Bandit N, I really did ride it into the ground, poor thing, However, it's on the road to a new lease of life now, and I'm enjoying taking it apart. I do miss riding it, they're so raw, no electrickery masking things up, and that torque...
Thank you for demo i was wondering how to do it
Got myself an '08 650 and enjoyed that for 2 years after jumping from a 125 I'd been riding for many years. Definitely a jump in power but I don't like the fuel injection and looking for more torque. The throttle is very on/off at low revs and you don't get that with carbs. Yeah you needa clean/rebuild/sync carbs now and then and while it's not trivial, it's not so user-unfriendly that you need a computer just to turn up the idle. I may only be 26 but these bikes are just something else. They're right up my alley and tbh I'm gonna sell my 650 and look for a '97 B12 in Europe and import it back to Ireland. Would be poetic to have my favourite bike being made the same years as the rider was born. Shame bout the breakdown but least you got it sorted!
Forget tps...just add a 4 degree advancer
Hi just subed . Where do you live . I have just bought a 1200 Bandit 1993 mint condition with only 20000 miles on the clock . I am the same as you i have over 40 years riding . I raced for 10 years and live in County Galway . I owned a 1200 8 years ago and sold it . Big mistake . Cheap fast fun . I am going to tune my bike as i am used to big high performance bikes . Thanks for the Stream mate . BTW i am 65 now and am going to ride until i cant see lol
I miss my old 1200 from 98 Mk1. I've had bigger Posher bikes but I'm a Bandit man through and through.
Brilliant, simple to follow instructions.Just checked my 96 1200.I got readings of 5.7 & 4.1 which was only 72%.Adjusted it to the 76% which is 4.3,& it seemed to immediately tick over better & smoother.Don’t think it’s my imagination. Will take it for a test run tomorrow & see.
Very useful video, many thanks. Ride safe.
Good clear video:)
Hi, Is this a fuel-injection Bandit ? Is It the same procedure for an Bandit GSF 650, as mine was misaligned during the throttle cable changes. Gave me a Bloody headache 😢😢😢

Excellent explanation of a very misunderstood item. Many thanks. Cheers
What turned out to be the problem with the breakdown
MCDO
always thought mines to advanced at idle, never thought of it being this.
TPS does nothing except retard timing, best left unplugged.
Hi @williamfoster4268 , I feel I need to make a follow-up video on this topic , tps tells ecu what you're doing with the throttle, ecu uses this info along with rpm and gear selected to calculate correct ignition timing . Ignition timing consists of three layers , in old distributors it was base timing + vacuum + centrifugal gives total timing. Tps is just more modern electronic way of calculating how much timing to advance or retard from static base timing. Seems to me to disconnect it may be leaving a lot of performance and efficiency on the table, also the incorrect ignition timing could potentially be damaging if not catastrophic
@@emeraldbandit1200 These bikes have no ECU(Or CDI, it's actually a TDI). The TPI is only used to retard timing during a cruise condition in order to get better MPG. Take your Bandit and run back to back dyno pulls, you will not see any noticeable difference in power made or lost. TPI was only added due to Euro 2 or 3 emissions controls. Timing on these bikes is conservative from the factory, hence being able to slap on a +5 degree ignition advance or drilling out your own and still being able to run 87 octane without pinging or detonation. I hope this clears up some confusion you have have had.
Semantics aside the flip side of retarding the ignition for cruise condition is advancing it on acceleration, better mpg is definitely a good thing, bandit 1200s are thirsty. Advancing the ignition doesn't give more power but it certainly gives better throttle response and riding feel and yes this is what a 5 degree advance plate gives you but the fact the tps tpi or whatever you'd like to call it is adjustable means its quite easy to add 5 degrees or whatever you would like by adjusting the sensor .
@@emeraldbandit1200 No, you can't add timing over base with the TPS. It can retard from base timing or go back to base, but not advance past that. Advancing ignition can and will give more power provided certain conditions are met. The only way you are advancing ignition is by drilling your pulse wheel or bolting on an aftermarket solution. You gain power down low using an advance, it's not much on a Bandit though.
But you can move the point the timing changes and in my experimental adjustments on my own bike certainly translate to changing how the throttle response feels particularly at less than 3500 rpm and play a large part in sharpening up the 4k kick in power, not gaining total timing advance but starting the advance curve earlier adds relative advance at least until it maxes out. Ultimately it would be well worth making a windowed ignition cover and a timing light to see for real whats going on there and if I can gather the necessary I'll certainly make the video
That was the stps righy ? Not tps ? Ty
So the 1ohm at closed was normal right ? Mines a 1400 but similar method I believe I need to adjust mine tyb
Excellent tutorial…. Thank you.
Very useful, we have a bike in which has great compression, valve clearances within tolerance, timing is right, its sparking, new plugs, air filter, oil etc... Seems to be fuelling ok, we also sprayed carb cleaner down the intake and still no fire, not even an attempt, checked the tps and its out of limits, shows absolutely NO continuity. New TPS on the way :)
Oh! shadow play♪👍

Also. Why is there a TPS on a carb motor?
Because it's about when the bang occurs not how big it is....👍

Awesome. I have an 02 B12. About to do this.
Nice bike mate. Just got a 99 bandit 1200 with just 7k miles on it. Love the idea of getting to grips with the fuelling.
Thanks for taking the trouble to make this video.
Love the color. Bought my 03 Bandit 12 for $900 as a spray can beater stunt bike. Restored it to a show piece with a candy orange paint job! Bandits are the best
Love the bandit got a 1200 myself !
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful Suzuki Bandit of yours, she sounds gorgeous and the paint is just right , peace.
Excellent vid composition and advice, really helpful. I am experiencing exactly the same issue. Found my TPS to be out of spec, so ordered a new one. Will set up as you described - munch thanks to you👍
Fantastic ,had one great bikes.
Gotta love a bandit 1200
