    Better late than never: to anyone who has never owned a lab, but obviously are the perfect dog-owners, I’ve owned and trained 8 labs in my life, and all- every single one- knew the difference between work and play. If we were on the boat or in the blind (or both), they would heed every verbal and non-verbal command down to the softest tongue-click. But when we were on the dock, or in the backyard, they were goofy kids playing. I tried calling them off a snake once, in vain. I certainly can’t imagine them paying me much heed in this situation, that is for sure! And to the OP: These are fantastic videos, thank you for posting them.

    So precious! As someone that has trained dogs for well over 30 years I love how you call the dogs onto the boat "Load up" give them a moment to calm down a little, then allowed them to go back to playing! In the other video I noticed how Sugar was looking a little um... "hmmm I could maybe eat that thing" and right away you corrected her. For those people saying he should put down the camera and train his dogs... these dogs are incredibly well trained and the owner has perfect control over them at all times. Great dog daddy!

    A sea otter is a lot bigger than a river otter, right? You're blessed to be able to enjoy these very rare animals in the wild. Keep making video's of the animals you are exposed to and your dog's too. I just love them.

    Great video's with your dog's and the otter, very well behaved dog's too. They're labrador retrievers and you would think they would be chasing the little otter, but they're very well behaved and only want to play with it. I love your videos. The otter and dog's as well. Thank you for sharing this. So cute!

    That otter video. The otters are just as likely to drag the dig into the water and eat it. Dogs should be on leash always.

    At some point the theory of doing the same thing over and over and over "Sugar! Spice! Load up!" and expecting different results comes into play. Either your dogs mind, or they are untrained. Put down the camera and train your dogs.

      I'm sure that's the reason the comments were disabled. It was such an interesting, funny interaction between the dogs and otter, but the constant ignored commands became difficult to watch. Either let them play (my preference!) or make them follow their command... singular command. If dogs don't listen they shouldn't be off-leash.

    wanted to comment on your labs playing with otter videos but couldn't. i wouldn't say they playing as much as trying to figure each other out. it plays out as a best case scenario first contact situation. two species met for the first time and are curious about each other. the otter demonstrated a huge amount of trust exposing its belly to potential predators. i also found it very interesting they were both interested in their corresponding scent glands.

    Why were you calling the dogs away in that beautiful interaction with the otter. All your other videos are with otters it dont make sense, no wonder the comments were turned off, near every human being on the planet would of embraced that!

    • @armara70
      @armara70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because they're wild animals and can be quite ferocious?

    • @3me0
      @3me0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because not everyone is as loving and kind as some humans strive to be - we are talking about animals here, and in that situation, dogs are predators and otters are prey. It's a blessing that these dogs were not interested in killing the otters but a lack of interest shouldn't be expected. He acted accordingly; when he was not sure if the interaction was about to take a turn for the worse, he didn't risk it - instead, he called them back.

    • @ma5839
      @ma5839 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3me0 Not to pick a fight on YT comment section, but your interpretation of the predator-prey relationship between species and individual animals is wrong and backwards. Wild sea otters are not prey to dogs in any scenario. Moreover, I'm pretty sure state/municipality laws prohibit unleashed dogs harassing wild animals,AND sea otters are an endangered species, so there are probably at least four code violations occurring. Next, otters as a species are a keystone apex predator in estuaries, and shoreline habitats. This otter was probably used to patrolling that marina and interacting with humans and pets. But an adult sea otter is not prey to dogs, that otter could easily handle those two pet dogs who have no sense of danger, or how to kill anything. There are reasons why otters are called water wolves and its not because they play cute
