2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ gauges not working. Possible fix.
2001 Cherokee gauges not working, radio not working, no door chime. This fix obviously worked for me, but your mileage may vary. Something to consider if you are scratching your head.

This is one of many issues that can cause the no bus . It’s never one fix fixes all unfortunately

What caused the fuse to blow in the first place?
the hood light switch. It's a gravity switch in the hood light assembly. Had to remove the assembly.

@@officialWWM check all systems your fuse supports. look at the manual or read the systems on that fuse. check for shorts

So hey wondering if you could help with this me on this one i have a 2000 jeep cherokee xj i replacedd the switch and its still blowing the fuse blowing any ideas out there ?
have you tried leaving the switch completely disconnected from the harness? unplug the wires from the black box and see if it still blows, if it does, you have a dead short somewhere in the cab in the dash. and good luck if its that.
Thank you for posting this video! Started my 01 this morning and went back inside to finish getting ready for work. When I went out to head to work nothing was working. So, thank you for the video. You saved my a lot of messing around.
Okay try the fuse. The part you pulled from where if it blows? The gauges stopped working yesterday, the interior lights wouldn’t go off (I pulled the fuse) now the battery is dead. If this works your worth more than a mechanic.
What and where did you remove the other part? Our gauges stopped working yesterday.
My issue really only applies to that fuse being blown. if that fuse in not blown then it's not your issue essentially. I removed the hood light switch because it shorted.
Do you lose the ability to lock the doors after that? I can not open any problem. But I can't lock the doors with the door button. I replaced the main switch on the board but nothing.

totally unrelated to this fuse issue. but I know the doors are a pain in the ass on these jeeps and never been able to figure it out.

Thank you for posting your experience. My 1999 had the instrument cluster issue you started with. I had gauges intermittently. Then they would quit working completely. Pulled the gauge cluster and gave a slight twist to each pin on the back. Sprayed with contact cleaner and put it together. Works great!
How long did it last for you?
This was exactly the problem on my 1998 XJ. I have had this at a shop and they could not find the problem and I have been wrestling with this for several years now. Thank you for posting this. What a simple thing and it caused so much trouble!!! Thanks again for posting this.
Having the same problem but what fixed mine was taking out the driver side power windows/ lock/unlock switch. Popped a new fuse in and everything works. Inside the door there was a wire that was connecting to metal and shorting/ blowing the 15a fuse. That is how I fixed my problem today. Hope it helps.

Ok the bulb was already off my jeep when I bought it and gauge failure still happened

autozone. napa, oreilly, carquest, walmart, pepboys, etc.
My instrument cluster failed and red air bag light was illuminated for the last three days. All the other electrical components worked. I held the trip reset button in and turned the key to the ON position and the cluster worked fine. Freaking gremlins!

Its the hood light assembly. Its a little light that when you open the hood will shine in your engine bay.

Me being the dumbass i am i cut the wires to the hood light and now my gauges and radio don’t work do you think i blew a fuse or do i need to rewire the hood light
You might have shorted the two wires with the pliers themselves. Make sure the hot and ground wires you cut are separated and insulated from each other and try the fuse again.

Solved my problem. Alarm would not shut off bc FOBs were not working. Also gauges, radio and overhead lights not working. Found the 15 amp fuse you referred to and it was blown. New fuse and up and running. FOBs work as does everything else. Thanks.
You found it. I checked all the fuses never 15 although I checked it and I’ll still getting a reading on my light tester but only on one side pulled the no.15 under the hood fuse blown. Good job

@@mikkelstone789 its different for different years some years have the numbers 1 lower because the generator cable stacks ontop of the battery to fuse box

Seth Glenn mine was just loose and it causing the same stuff. Reestablished a better connection and put some electrical tape on the ground and I was good to go.
