Yes Fear was the underlying emotion. Maybe in both of us. But one thing I did was treat him like I would like to be treated. Except he didn’t treat me well and I sadly allowed him to get away with that until I realised this man had no intention of having a loving relationship with me as an equal. The in and out behaviour was for 7 years of my life and it coincided with me going over the age of having kids. I missed my boat because I was dealing with someone who didn’t have my best at heart. I walked away finally 3 years ago. I’ve been on a deep healing journey as the treatment took its toll on my physical and mental health.

Everyone's job is to give to "my person" while he gives nothing to anyone...except the person he considers his main person..which now is his male friend .his buddy. He visits him regularly. He gives like and hearts to stranger's Facebook posts and not mine. I'm done. He has nothing...no job just a small inheritance of $1,000.a month. He lives in his small bedroom in his friend's house (who is also a narcissist) and stays on Facebook all day and night long. Yuk, I don't know what I was thinking. He's 55 years old and says he needs to get more fans because he's going to play music again some day. All narcissists keep a harem garage of exes they can go back to when someone else hurts their feelings. He doesn't do drugs or alcohol because he has kidney disease and high blood pressure. The house he and roommate live in is being sold so they have to find a new place to live. He can't really stand his roommate either but if he lived with me, he wouldn't like me either.
