Sawyers Killer Bug Variant

Sawyers Killer bug was originally tied with Chadwicks477 mending wool but down south we aint that fancy so using a few strands from my wife's Polly blend yarn I tie up a variant of this classic fly.

Tying the Southern Tellico Nymph. A true southern fly with roots back to the old country. My first attempt at a video - Check out www.ayearonthefly.blogspot.com for more flies and fly fishing art.
Nice'n'buggy! I love the body. The tail too, was that a pheasant body feather? I've wanted to use that for tails instead of GP tippet or crest for that matter. Now isn't that called a yellow hammer too? For the feathers of the Northerner Flicker I think. I find their beautiful black barred yellow feathers in my yard. Thanks for posting.
Joel, nice variant with the little flappy wing bud. Bet it fishes better, how does it fish for you? I can't believe how much fuss a little ugly duckling of a fly generates. Is it the yarn, simplicity, translucency of yarn, color underbody, give credit to the originator, blah blah blah! I think it's the person behind the reel. Thanks for clearing my head Joel, I like your common sense style and approach to tying. Good luck to you and stay safe.
Nice technique, wish I could see it more clearly. Cool music too. Thanks.
