You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma
"You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" is a country duet by David Frizzell and Shelly West, released in 1981. Written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, along with Larry Collins and Sandy Pinkard, the song tells the story of two lovers separated by distance. One person has moved to the big city, while the other remains in Oklahoma. Both express their feelings of loneliness and longing, with the city-dweller missing the simple, loving life back in Oklahoma and the partner waiting for their return.
The song became a major hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and winning the Academy of Country Music (ACM) award for Song of the Year. Its heartfelt lyrics and the emotional delivery by Frizzell and West made it an enduring favorite among country fans. The song helped launch both artists' careers, particularly Shelly West, who is the daughter of country music legend Dottie West.
