Not aged well.

A very sad episode to open with but shows the stoicism of Jack Webb and the entire cast that they continued with the series. Its also a fitting tribute to the actor that played Ben.

Years ago I was fortunate enough to get a set of excellent quality recordings with 50 of "The New Adventure of Sherlock Holmes" shows featuring Rathbone and Bruce on 25 CDs for around $30.00. Simon and Shuster still sell CD collections of the shows. I have collected 500 Sherlock Holmes radio programs over the years. Of them all I think Carleton Hobbs and Norman Shelly are the most faithful to the canonical stories and Basil Rathbone and NIgel Bruce, the most enjoyable to listen to. My least favorite is the series done by Clive Merrison and Michael Williams. The format does without any narration by Watson, and the two men's voices are so similar it's hard to tell them apart. Also Merrison is too melodramatic for my taste. Imagination Theatre's productions with John Patrick Lowrie and Lawrence Albert are very entertaining. They have recorded the entire 60 stories written by Doyle. They have also produced a hundred and forty new stories under the heading "The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes."

The University of Chicago debate of Canada/US relations was really interesting. Back when Canadians and Americans could have a civil discussion about our 2 countries

HV Kaltenborn's news report was full of errors and outright faleshoods. The US base at Pearl Harbor was caught completely unprepared and unready. 12 hours later Clarke Field in the Philippines was attacked and surprised despite being alerted and the hundreds of planes were destroyed on the ground because Gen. Macarthur failed to heed the alerts. Clarke Field was a greater disaster than Pearl Harbor. A bad day for the US.

Are there any versions on TH-cam that edit out the petri wine advertisements? Everyone I have found doesn't. I mean, I don't mind them, but man, after the 20th time, it gets so old, and I eventually give up.

I love listening to Lux Radio Theatre whilst I get some sleep. It's quite soothing. I may have NOT been alive when it first started airing over the radio but it's still really cool to listen to it on TH-cam during the 2020s.
