Bin it is not worth your time a brand now one is only $260
Where to buy
@@Cramqwible motionrc.com has this F22 and lots of other great edfs
@@mikeygsrc thanks
because planes are too heavy they wont just bounce
Awesome! Which plane is that?
Oh wait - read the description - awesome anyway!
@@Sock_real glad you like it!
The back gear needs some work to be realistic to the real plane btw but still nice job
Can't you just put a piece of light plywood across the back of the gear to keep it from pushing back.
@@brianscutt6298 yea I think that would be a good mod. Depends what the grass is like
Great video
@@mihauok1 thanks, Glad you like it!
Oh mein gooooot
@@bowenflob8036 yea wasn’t my best moment
I maidened mine this morning and had a similar problem. Too much flaps on grass field take off roll created too much drag and couldn’t lift off. Dialed the flaps back to 30% and had no trouble getting off the ground in a very short roll.
To glue the sheets to the ribs I like to brush Elmer's glue on the skins and the ribs and use my covering iron to bond the skins. Heat activates the glue really well. Works like a charm on 1/16 and 1/32nd sheeting. I also use Sigment to bond the skins edge to edge. It sands like the balsa, not hard like white glue or CYA.
@@airplanyguy68 nice tip I’ll have to give it a go
Cool! ...What is the projected flying weight?
Thanks. From the plan it’s said to be 2.2kgs. Should have a good thrust to weight ratio 1.5+
@@mikeygsrc Wow, might be almost as fast as the full size Concorde! Please be sure to post the flight videos!
@@coriscotupi yes I’m sure it will be! Looking forward to seeing how she flies.
Keep it going G 💪
@@bowenflob8036 thanks man getting there!
Idk if anyone will respond to this, but if you buy this for 179 dollars motion rc does it come so I can just bind a transmitter to it or do I need to do more steps?
Most of motion rc planes come PNP which stands for plug and play. This means you just need to add a receiver and bind and it’s ready to fly. FYI the $179 f22 is the 4s version 64mm. The one in this video is the bigger version ~$600 6s 90mm.
Nice video; remember filming it !
And whats the use of the ammonia
It’s to help bend the balsa sheeting. Like for a fuselage top deck.
@mikeygsrc So the Freewing 80mm EDF Avanti S V2 Nose Landing Gear Strut and Tire And your all good to go?
It’s a straight swap that’s fits however after flying a lot on it I’ve found the avanti spring to be a bit too soft. So I’d recommend fitting a stiffer spring. I ended up putting a foam block in the strut to add stiffness
I think you want the Avanti V1 nose gear. The V2 is too short.
Great work keeping her moving on the grass. Looks great!
Thanks 🙏 so happy with this jet flies great
I would not fly it with grass that high.
Yea unfortunately I realised too late how long it was. Good thing is that the plane is fixed and the grass was cut short!
Can this fly a 59 inch wingspan wood frame plane?
I’d say yes but depends what plane. It’s 20cc but not hugely powerful. Manual says it can do ~3.5kg of static thrust with APC 15”X8” prop.
@@mikeygsrc alright alright thank you so much for the answer, I got myself a 59incher gas powered and i want to convert it to electric researching all i can before wasting money
Too low too slow 🙌😂🙌
"PromoSM" 😋
Cool brother
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
This is sick
Haha glad you like it!
I am worried I wouldn’t know how to treat the engine and put the right mixes of fuel
Alot of fuel comes premixed so don’t need to worry too much about that. A few drops of after run oil is good before storage. Apart from that not too much in terms of treatment.
No
Nothing beats nitro. Get to play all day, while the others have gone to play with their chargers!!😊😊😊
Haha yep that’s true!
Hey
Hello
I like it but cant afford it right now
Yea not cheap but nice to have one in the hanger. Maybe a second hand bargain will be coming your way
Hey bro that’s pretty cool
Thanks. Glad you like it!
Reckon you could get lower
@@mikejordanoff haha I’ll give it a go!
Nice ,ive got the (RCM&E) magazine books and ive seen this plane there
I’ve got that rcme issue too. In fact I think that’s what inspired me to build it in the end!
@@mikeygsrc 😄😄
is this filmed at bartons point
Nope not sure where that is. This was filmed in Maidenhead.
@@mikeygsrc its a costal park in kent with a huge rc airfeild and a massive model railway it seriously looks similar they do a big camping rc airshow there in the summer
@@Tomtom-b5e sounds cool. I’ll have to check it out
Jeeze!
Glad you liked it!
get those valve covers tp be gold, you wont regret it
Yea I would love that. There’s not one bit of gold atm
Can you please tell me your flap mix settings With elevator
Take off 62% flap 3% elevator Landing 95% flap 5% elevator
That grass is to high buddy
Yea it’s been growing like crazy this summer. That’s 2 weeks after a cut
Yes mate!! I love the pen reference for grass length. That aircraft looks super awesome.
Haha I didn’t have a ruler with me so the pen was the next best thing. The f22 is awesome!
Hand launch from now on… will fly better without all that landing gear anyway
I actually thought about it 😀
THAT BEAUTIFUL AIRCRAFT WAS MEANT TO TAKE OFF AND LAND ON ASMOOTH SURFACE LIKE ASPHALT OR CEMENT
Yes would love an asphalt runway
No bueno. Very fixable, i lost mine ocer some trees, its been over a month and the RC NTSB found more parts yesterday while trying to recover someone elses plane. LOL was an epic crash.
@@ltfadl1 ah man hope you get an f22 up in the air some. Great model! I always find random plane parts in the field when I’m recovering mine 😂
@@mikeygsrc LOL, I already picked me up an 8s F22. Just to nice of a bird not to have in the hanger. And its my favorite jet in real life.
Did you do any mods for it to handle grass ops
Yes. main mods was to install a strut brace. You can find a file to 3dprint from the motion rc website or you can just make it from wood.
This is awesome. Just showed my buddy at the airfield. How were you able to attach the F22 light to the Avanti nose gear?
In the end I just opened up the hole on the light so it could fit over the strut. There is a small gap between the strut and the plastic mount OD. I just wedge a small piece of ply wood either side and put some CA. Bit of a bodge but holds up well so far
@@mikeygsrc You've been a big help mate. This is my first 90mm so I want to get it right. I just subbed to the channel 👍
@@JMaxRC thanks, glad to help. One other mod I did was to switch the rear struts as mine were toeing out which made it a bit unstable on taxing. Not sure if they are all like that.Switching them over made it toe in. doesn’t fully close by 5mm but I preferred the stability, the softer avanti gear plus toe out made it wonder on taxi.
@@JMaxRC this short shows how unstable it was with the toe out on the rear. Part of the reason I crashed. Also because I didn’t put enough elevator. th-cam.com/users/shortsteTKp8toYZE?feature=share
On average what's your flight times with that Admiral 6s 5000 50c?
I set my timer to 4mins and it’s about right.
@@mikeygsrc I appreciate the help bud. Just assembled mine today and installed the receiver.
Have you been able to test this modification on grass yet? Any difference?
Yes huge difference. Now the suspension is actually taking the loads rather than the fuselage. No more broken mounts. I would say that the avanti gear is a bit soft so it does bounce more and requires more take of length + elevator to rotate but once you figure that out it’s easy.
So the Freewing 80mm EDF Avanti S V2 Nose Landing Gear Strut and Tire And your all good to go?
Hi. Did u use flaps on those very slow landing attempts?
Yes was using full flaps for the landings/touch and go. Full flaps helps to really slow it down.
Do you include the ailerons if you talk about full flaps or really only the flaps? I flew mine today for the maiden and I came in way faster than you.. but in the beginning it‘s the safer way to land at higher speed and then from time to time you get a feeling how slow you can go before it gets critical.
@@JoshuaRütsch congratulations on your maiden. By full flaps I mean landings flap position. Ailerons setup normally. To get the speed down I found it important to get the nose high attitude early on in the landing approach and balance throttle and elevator to keep nose high but control descent.
@@mikeygsrc Thanks, it flew nicely and I‘m looking forward to get more familiar with the jet. Landing in a high-alpha way will be the next thing to try. How much air time do you usually get with one lipo pack? For the maiden I’ve set the timer to 3 min and had only 42% left in both of my 4cell 5000mAh packs.. quite short flight time..
Do you run this on grass by chance?
Yes I do! th-cam.com/users/shortsOJh_yMjeS-I?feature=share
That is why I did the landing gear upgrade. I swapped the original for an avanti nose wheel. Did a video on my channel
@@mikeygsrc Thanks bud I'll check that out
@@JMaxRC you could probably use the stock one on grass but definitely needs the rear brace mod. I made mine from wood but you can 3d print one from the motion rc website
@@mikeygsrc I saw that. Very cool of them. I upgraded my F16 Thunderbird to run on grass and made all the difference in the world
When can we expect the completed model Michael?
Haha that’s a good question! Hopefully by next summer 😬
Love this landing gear
😂 glad you like it!
What are your thoughts on balsa vs 3d prints?
I’d like to give it a go, need to buy a 3D printer first! The specific strength of balsa is far better so a balsa plane should fly better in theory but takes much longer to build. Will need to try some day
Tony Nihjuis is an aeromoddeling genius, you won't go far wrong with this kit. Good luck with the build! Nice one. 🌟👍
Thanks William, Yes enjoying it so far!
He had full up elevator before the sufficient speeds too. Learning
yep all went wrong
Is this the 6s or 8s?
6s on 6000mah lipos
