The wild mind of mike
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ก.ย. 2021
It's the wild mind of Mike because you never know what wild idea I have for our homestead. This channel is new, the homestead has been a work in progress for 25 years. Prepping turned into homesteading turned into something that probably needs a new definition at this point.

I started this channel for my grandkids and it has grown to entertain and give some advice for others.

Thank you sir, for your service.
I'm always in awe of that building and what you have thriving in there. Not everyone has the skills or the imagination to create such a space.
@southwesthomestead1234 Thank you. Mrs. Wild has it so full, I'm hoping to make it a lot bigger and this time film the build. Stay safe 🤠
Hoses have memory, some times they remember too much
Super interesting! How do you keep the water clean?
@@sebastianmihaiprisacariu8975 I substitute irrigation with the fish water and replace the fish water from my well. Some traditional Aquapoics also. Check out the video on it: th-cam.com/video/u397YfLqRho/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared

Man, I love your channel. I just went through and binged your shorts. I moved to the USA from Jamaica a few months before I turned 17 I bought my first house with a bit of land at 21 just by working regular 9 to 5 and fixing my credit, I started a backyard garden. I was going to build a pond in the ground, but you’re aquatic system might have just changed my mind lol however I do want to set up our rainwater catchment system, the aquatic system and have the garden up. I already started my compost. I’m working on making a worm bin and then I also want in the future once I save up enough to fence the yard and have chickens off. I might have a few greenhouses (dont tell my hoa)that’s one big thing. I am 23 now and my goal is to buy land and just go Homestead similar to what you’re doing building everything by hand what’s actually interesting is I always had this false reality of having the perfect land and I think I’m more eager to try to refurbish dryland Similar to what you’re doing taking a desert turning it green I think it would make me feel a lot more accomplished also because in my backyard, I’m not paying for anything though upon everything I’m doing by hand even my compost. I’ve been making with leaves kitchen scraps all that I’m trying to remake the clay into Nourishing gardening soil without having to go out and spend a lot of money at these garden stores. I’m trying to do everything organic at home on my own.
Might have a few typos in there lol
Just picked up a second job hoping to save for the totes for the rain water and piping and other essential things but man these bills😅 any advice on how i can go about preparing my self at 23 to get to where you are
@Geekin23k Malik, I'm glad you found it. Thank you very much for your comment, as it is inspiring. I started this channel for my grandkids, and it has grown because of people like you. I'm trying to put together some longer videos on what it actually takes to Homestead in a desert. It wasn't easy, but now that things are finally coming together, it's been worth it. Wish I started a TH-cam channel from the start, but I started this place before the internet. Maybe you can flim your start, I'll subscribe. Thank you again, good luck with your endeavors Mike 🤠
@Geekin23k I'm still working 50-60 hour weeks, but it took time and persistence. Every year, a big project and as many small projects I can get in between. Invest in retirement and make your homestead part of the investment. Knowing that I retire in about a year and I have the homestead and many more adventures to look forward to makes it all worth it.
@@Thewildmindofmike thank you man ill keep pushing 💪💯 also there is this youtube channel called the dutch farmer there content is very good you can inspiration from that for longer videod i would recommend their year 1 n year 2 food forest videos where they do a year revie of their land. Yearly reviews are great video concepts. But there videos are good in general they made swales n everything i believe they are in portugal

Get yourself a surface skimmer/protein skimmer. You're handy enough that you could look up how to make one for your ponds and then all that gets pulled out from the skimmer.
@joeblashka9011 I get exactly what you are talking about. Have been doing it manually and feeding buckets to the biodigester. It's definitely an upgrade i should work on. 🤠
Isn't that last snake venomous, too, or is that another bullsnake?

Thank you for the content. I've seen some shelters with the floors done with deck boards and spacing left for waste to fall through. Do you just regularly clean these out and install fresh bedding?
@dwightthomas9340 Yes. One of the benefits to having the goats is the droppings and bedding for compost. Having both easy to scoop from the box is a plus. Thank you 🤠
@ that makes sense. I think I may go with your design. Just gotta sit down a figure up lumber for two of these. Thanks.
@dwightthomas9340 Happy building. Good point is that I saved a bunch of wood by not traditionally framing the boxes. I would love to see and hear how your build works out. 🤠

A baby western diamond back bit my 15 pound multipoo dog and he died in less then 10 minutes o didn’t no what to do he ran to me and basically passed out soon as I picked him up and stared ceasing on the way to hospital he didn’t make it doc said he was brain dead already within 30 minutes of the bite

i like the idea of the canopy tarp, but i can't find it. where do you get it? and about how much does it cost. thanks for the video.
@hopechannelcat5462 The tarps can be found on Amazon or at Skilcut.com for $31 for a 8x8.
This is similar to the vision I have for my greenhouse… I plan to use screen or 1/4” mesh on the interior so that the plastic portion can be removed in spring… then I have some protection from critters and could even switch the plastic over to aluminet. But the screen or wire mesh would just be permanent. I’d like to be able to pull the frames with either plastic or polycarbonate sheets and slide back in for the winter. I might start with plastic but eventually switch over to polycarbonate. But this looks like my vision. And if I just have to unscrew the frames initially… I might try that. But I want something to make it easier to convert and usable year round.
@OfftoShambala Sounds like you have a good plan. My ARK is also year round but where i live the summer air temp gets over 100f. Instead of letting air flow through a screen I use a evaporative cooler so the plastic actually helps all year. Thank you for the comment. I will be doing alot of videos on the ARK this winter. Hopefully some may be helpful for you. Stay safe 🤠
@OfftoShambala Also just checked out your channel and subscribed 🤠
No excuse for laziness. You seen that tree dying and was like ill do it later. What else dies on your hands your not showing us? Isnt hard to water something. So since that is said, i hope you dont have any animals. If ya cant water a tree then ya definitely aint watering your animals
I have an hour drive home from work and often times all I can handle is a ride in absolute silence. That building is impressive !

Just found your channel, dig what you are doing. Just curious, what sate was the land in when you began, and what is you end goal you have in mind?
@SaveAmerican Glad you found it. When I bought the place 29 years ago, it was a small beat up house on 1 acre that used to be a large ranch. Now it's 8 acres and every year has been a large improvement project and just started youtubing the progress this year. The dirt I haven't touched yet is mesquite and sand. The goal, a fully self sustainable property for us and all the animals. You just gave me an idea for a future video 🤠. Thank you
Hey brother I really dig what you are doing. Hope your channel grows
