It just seems like Makita doesn’t even try to keep up when it comes to mechanic/ automotive tools.
@@littlechuckn7380 you are 💯 correct on that Milwaukee smokes them when it come to mechanic tools
Sounds more like a Tractor Supply issue.
@schmuhf kinda both in my opinion

@SidonianTree I love it dosent turn so good on pavment but other then that no real complaints so far. I wanted a vermeer ctx100 but the price was steep and the financing was terrible. Wacker has good control patrain and is a well built machine its just the vermeer is 40hp vs wacker 25 or something

@demonjagarn8158 oh brother where art thou brother
I haven't broke mine yet but I agree on the reverse switch, bad design, im sure that is going to break. I have used it a good bit, and as manual ratchet to break loose. I stab out the drive adapter to switch to the other one with the screwdriver and end up hurting my hand usually too
@johnnewman3589 just baby it and make sure that switch stayes engaged. Good luck.
I agree the selector is a pain in the ass. If you haven't thrown it away yet, there aren't any gears in the head to strip if it's like mine. There are roller bearings that bind up. Pull out the Drive, take off the snap ring, disassemble, clean, lubricate. th-cam.com/video/uhoENvKXz84/w-d-xo.html
I just learned this today because I wanted to avoid buying a new head myself.

Same problem.....
@tominogte dude what a shame I just can't believe they put out a tool that falls apart like this
Have you considered the Dewalt ratchet? Available with 12V and 18V.
Not really I ran Milwaukee before this but I wanted to go down to just one battery type so I gave my Milwaukee stuff to my neighbor if I would run two brands I would go Milwaukee for the mechanic side of things
@@facelesspsycho8252 but what is benefit using this Makita ratchet if it is shitty? Considering just to return my one directly before usage based on this video. Dont like having a tool that potentially dies in few weeks (or directly after warranty.). My head and housing is completely oily in the packaging :-(
@Carpediem1312 no benefit I had no idea it was such a shit design when I got rid of the m12 stuff .
@@facelesspsycho8252 decision taken to return the Makita. DEWALT variant (DCF500N…) has been ordered. I do not worry about 2nd battery equipment. Years ago I had to go to DEWALT for impact driver as well as Makitasˋ strongest Version was still too weak for my application.

I bought it brand new when it was released, I paid $200 just for the tool. I'm a car mechanic but also Japanese so I didn't want to go team RED, so I have impact driver, drill, high torque impact, grinder everything with Makita. But man I really really hate this cordless ratchet. Battery portion is too fat and its not useful. Rotation switch design is suck as you mentioned. For cordless ratchet, I highly recommend Milwaukee the team red. Especially they released the "insider" version recently and that tool can use both 1/4 and 3/8. also pass thru.
I'm a big makita fan also Milwaukee fan both make good tools . Makita dropped the ball big time on this one for sure. And yes the battery size sucks I can't put it in my ratchet drawer with the battery on it. My Milwaukee m12 on the other hand I could . Milwaukee definitely makes better tools for Mechanics.
@@facelesspsycho8252 I agree. When I was working at a huge Chevy dealership, I was the only one who was using Makita tools. All other 20 or so mechanics had Milwaukee, and few DeWalt, Hercules lubetechs.
@@facelesspsycho8252 I just really really love the Makita impact driver, that's the only reason why I'm using Green
I have the same problem. I was able to load it with wd40 and run it until I restored enough torque to do low torque stuff. You can purchase the gears online to rebuild it but i haven't got around to doing that. I think the head gets loaded with grits during use and that wears the gears.
Sorry to hear that. It's definitely a flawed design .
I also have Makita 18V tools. Home depot has a deal now that for $199 you get two batteries, a charger, and a free tool which you can get the ratchet if you want. I figured that would be great , two more batteries and a charger and this ratchet. After seeing the reviews on it where it would not even loosen a 20 ft-lb freshly installed nut and your review I decided to get the Ridged 18v right angle 3/8" impact, 2 Batteries, charger and free router for $300. I really wanted an impact vs driver anyway but the driver should be able to remove a 20-30 ft-lb nut or bolt as my 3/8" air ratchet will with no issue.
Nice I hope that ridged works well for you. I took advantage of the batery deal at home depot. Bought a Thirty six volt circular saw you get 4 5amp hour Batteries and the saw I needed more batteries for my makita top handle chain saw. Then I ended up needing a cordless Reciprocating saw so I bought the Two pack of batteries and got the free tool.
Can you do a tool Video
Like a tool box walk through?
Thanks I will not buy them
I would definitely stay away from this rechet.
I used to work for a mom and pop tool repair for over 8 years. We were a factory authorized warranty and repair facility for Makita, Milwaukee, and quit a few other brands. Unfortunately all the brands seem to have cheapened up on how they manufacture gear sets in everything. We did everything in our power to get something warrantied. Sorry you had a problem brother.
Hey thanks for the comment. most definitely they find ways to cheap out on stuff. This ratchet is on the extreme side of they dropped the ball big time .
Is there a good one?
M12 Milwaukee is the best that I have found. I had one of the first generation M12s, and it went about a year and a half before I blew the gears out of it . When It did break it was mostly my fault as I used it as a regular ratchet and put to much Torque on it. But that's just my experience.
mine slipps , i used it one day . sent it off came back ok , but only lasted another 3 months ,now i agree with you. it wont turn anything . there is a tiny spring on the lever and it dosent seem to hold the lever ,like yours
I think they are st a 90% failure rate judging from the complaints of people
I have one i used like 5 times and it broke too!
Dude that's crazy. It's a possibility poor design for sure and I definitely was expecting better from makita
It’s worth 260 all day
Strongly disagree with you . If it had a better forward reverse selector then yes but as it is its a poor design. I'm not sure about you but I like my tools to work .

Buy from a real Makita dealer. Not a box store. We support what we sell.
As a matter of fact I was just given one of those ratchets for freeee. Dealer perks
Why do some people remove the rifle from their shoulder, cycling the action with their eyes and the muzzle away from the target? Then they do the sighting and target acquisition dance from the beginning, every time. I have a lever, kitted out to my liking. I shoot, cycle, shoot, cycle and keep my eyes on the target and the weapon in my workspace, so to speak. Im just puzzled...
He is 14 and its his first time ever shooting a lever gun. It came right out of the box just before we shot it you are seeing the first rounds ever fired from the rifle and the sites are off left be about 2 inches at 100 yards.

Lol I was a little fired up
I'll toss you one better. Same issue with a Rigid cordless, and Homedepot, which even owns the brand, won't do in-store warranty, you have to mail it off to some goofy company they have contracted to do their warranty work, which is basically an impossible scam because they didn't even have a website to work through. Needless to say, haven't touched Rigid since. That said, Makita rarely does fail, but sometimes everything breaks. That thing looks a little bulky to get into tight spots anyhow.
I feel your pain. Yes it is definitely bulky the only reason I have them is because I wanted to go down to one brand instead of have Milwaukee and makita. Gotta tell you the Milwaukee m12 batery is much better profile for a ratchet. The fist m12 ratchets had a similar issue but the newer ones are much tougher.
I have the 12V CXT, no issues so far, but im getting the 18V LXT because I want a bit more power. I've had Makita tools since 1981 with zero issues
This thing is a poor design, unfortunately. Makita really dropped the ball with this one.
My 12volt makita ratchet died with light use also. All of my other makita stuff is great.
I got the LXT and it broke its first use...even my Harbor Freight cordless dominates this thing. Its a seriously garbage tool. Makita falls on its face in almost every tool comparison, and for the price - there is no justification to buy them anymore.
Nice trailer man
Thanks man I appreciate it
