I joined DVC in 2001. I felt it was worth the money because my family loves Disney World and we wanted to make a return trip every year. There have been a few years when we used up our points but my girls wanted to go back, so we book rooms at the value resorts, specifically All Star Movies. The DVC rooms are luxurious, there's no doubt, but we don't need luxury accommodations. It just works out that way. I can't imagine being able to afford to rent one of those rooms, nor can I imagine that it would be worth it. We go to the parks for the parks, not to spend any amount of time hanging around the resort. Essentially, despite the luxurious appointments, we only need the resort room to sleep. My daughters are now grown women with their own children. As a result, my wife and I have taken several trips to WDW without them. On those occasions, we stay in a Studio room. Studio rooms don't have the luxurious appointments like the other rooms. No kitchen, no spa, one TV, and no laundry. We're perfectly OK with this.

Mine didn’t work all the time and I feel like some people were definitely looking at me like I was a little cray cray swinging my arm around 😂😂😂
