Inspire and get inspired...
I come from a place which is amidst the lush Greenland of the Northeastern part of India. I have completed my PhD from IIT Guwahati and now I'm at National Energy University, Malaysia as a post-doctoral scientist.
Earlier in this channel I used to post about my life, experiences in postdoc abroad, things I love and many more planned or unplanned. However, now I have changed this space to share about higher education, creativity, and innovation with guests who have made a name for themselves after going through various hardships in life which inspires many and give them hope. I believe it will surely inspire you in some way.
I'm super excited to be finally doing this as a podcast channel, Cheers to all the artful minds!

Taiwan looks good for a year but I do not recommend staying there for a long time. The research ethics there isn't good and the professors there have prejudices against people from India. Probably you will know this once u spend at least more than a year there. I did my Master's there and did a PhD in Australia instead. I do not recommend a PhD over there. The work-life balance there is pathetic and researchers are underpaid. Taiwan is far from being foreigner-friendly. Howver, I do recommend an internship or Master's degree in Taiwan though, as it provides a good platform to go to higher ranked universities, just like in my case.
I am in a National University QS ranking within top 500, so the experience varies with other universities. The scholarship to be provided to foreign Masters and PhD students here is funded by the University in NTUT as clearly mentioned in the university website. In addition to motivate you to publish papers and join International conferences you have Sunshine award, CTCI Award, Chongyue Award to name a few. Before you join for Masters or PhD, make sure to secure a scholarship to take care of your living expenses. If you wish to apply for MOE Scholarships you can apply from India before coming to Taiwan. Internships like TEEP,IIPP are paid so it is the best opportunity to know the work culture in lab and decide if you wish to go for further studies. I have lived here for over 2 years in Taipei and in Yilan and I have found people warm and friendly. Sorry about your experience but I would suggest to all future students to look for National Universities where the scholarship amount is clearly mentioned before you join for Masters or PhD and atleast confirm it over mail with your future Supervisor before joining.
@bhanupriyadas7431 I got MoE scholarship and I did my master's at NCTU, whose rank I believe is in 200s. MoE pays 20,000 TWD but the universities pay around 8000-15000 TWD (depending on master's or PhD), and that too with conditions to renew after every semester. Also, 15000 TWD is almost same as what people get in India and the expense is double than India. So clearly this is not enough especially in Taipei. Also, my university is considered the best for VLSI, which is what I did during my Master's. Even then, I had to face racism, poor work-life balance and constant pressure. I used to work from 1pm to 6am next morning even when I was a master's student. I feel the condition in below-ranked universities are better. But for top universities in Taiwan, the situation is the same. You can ask these questions to those studying at NCTU (NYCU now), NTHU and NTU, and they will tell you the same. So I strongly advice against doing a PhD in Taiwan as it is very hectic and people take 5-6 to complete sometimes, which is same as India. Probably Masters or an internship for shorter duration is a good option to move to other top-ranked universities in Europe, Australia or US. I got PhD offers later at NTU and NCTU, but I chose to do at Monash University in Melbourne instead, mainly because of the reasons provided above.
The MOE Taiwan Scholarship Program provides the following for each outstanding international student scholarship recipient who comes to Taiwan to undertake a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate: (i) Tuition and miscellaneous expenses (i.e. the course-credit fees, and miscellaneous basic study-related fees): The MOE will pay up to NTD 40,000 each semester for each recipient’s approved tuition and miscellaneous expenses. If these exceed a total amount of NTD40,000, the remaining amount must be paid to the university/college by the student. The “miscellaneous expenses” do not include any of the following: administration fees, thesis supervision fees, insurance premiums, accommodation, or internet access. These are all the responsibility of the scholarship recipient. (ii) Living allowance: The MOE provides each recipient undertaking university undergraduate studies a monthly stipend of NTD15,000; it provides each recipient undertaking a master’s degree or doctorate studies a monthly stipend of NTD20,000.
