Sadly, these animals are not meant to be pets. The same can be said for so many other species but that's the reality in a world controlled by humans.
if you had one you would know. they are happy as pets and have their wants and needs catered to without worry about predators.

Idk who told you these are not pets. Thousands of people have prairie dogs as pets. There are even sanctuaries for them, because other people destroy their habitat or kill them.

It's funny how we subconsciously project our human standards onto animals sometimes. For instance, right here when the fat prairie dog rolls on the hay and lies down on its back, we may think it's fat and lazy like a human, but it's not like it has a choice, it behaves the way nature programmed it to. I mean it's not like he can get his shit together and start jogging... xD
