Wow, what an awesome cover, the harmony sounds almost EXACTLY like Phil, incredible job! And so far, the only Everly Brothers covers that I accepted were by Fauzi&Fauzan. But this is stunning.

Ahhhh yes, been there, done that. I wasn't what she wanted out of life, she wanted money and fame. she found it in this guy, but he blew his fortune on hookers, booze and gambling, until he lost it all. She came crying back to me, but by that time I was married. She hinted strongly we should get back together, but I said no, even though she still had a place in my heart. So be careful what you want out of life, what you wish for and to those you hurt on the way up, because things have a way of coming back, to bite you in the ass. I sent her this song and to my surprise, she agreed with it. The last time I saw her, she held me close, cried and told me how sorry she was......oh Well!!

Never heard this until now. An unusual song for them, but they more than do it justice. Their harmonies are like an old friend, always glad to hear.

Adjust the balance in your system sound settings to output only the right side channel, and you will hear this cover the way it was meant to be heard. You will only hear the male vocals, and the sound and distortion will be mitigated considerably. Still, it will not sound perfect, but it really should not. This song is visceral, and should not be polished in presentation. I revisited this song tonight after some years away. Some years ago, we used to come down to this song after a long day of Autumn partying. We discovered the right channel effect early on and never looked back. Do yourself a favor if you love this song...pull the balance slider all the way to the right, turn the lights down low, pour a glass of straight bourbon. Lose yourself in the ambience and enjoy this raw and refreshing take on a lyrical masterpiece. Thanks Peter. This cover is everything it should be.

Peter my mistake this is on the box set called Chained to a Memory. The Price of Fame was the first one. All the Everly Warner tracks are on these two box sets including demos like Bowling Green and a version of Elusive Dreams. They do not come cheap but you can get them on Everly Net which is where I got them or you can bid for them on e bay if they are there. I have not checked that as I have got everything ever done including demos on Cadence.

I know what you mean about this song. There are two versions by The Everly Brothers and this is on the Price of Fame box set along with the demo done just before it by Don Everly. The second one was done in 1973 when things were fizzling out and is not as good. It is a haunting and amazing offering and frankly far too good to be issued at around 1968 as it just would not have fitted in at that time. It is one of the best things ever done by them. Kristofferson said it was one of the best versions ever. There are theories about the content of course. One is the mother one and the other is the visit to an old flame or prostitute as life is getting him down even though he has a family. Some have said it is a suicide song but I don't go along with that. It just shows you that the Everly Brothers could sing anything. They were one of the greatest acts of all time but in some ways I always felt cheated a bit by them as their dislike of one another, although blood brothers, got in the way. They could have achieved so much more as they had the talent and the material

Don only had one son, but he never even met him until the boy was in high school and Phil introduced him to Don. So I think it's "sun", not "son".
