The story is there are innumerable ways to categorize art and entertainment-by genre; by era; fiction or nonfiction; art created as propaganda, or art as escape-and over the course of our first season of Lightwise, we’ve touched on all of these, but we’ve tried to focus on stories that amplify light. At the end of each episode throughout this first season, I’d ask our guests what films amplified light for them. Today we listen to what they had to say.
This season we’ve visited with filmmakers, actors and comedians, activists and academics, and entrepreneurs. As you listen to what amplifies light for them, ask yourself what stories, in film, TV or other media amplify light for you, and as we look forward to seasons 2, ask yourself what would like to see or hear more of from Lightwise. Be sure to comment or send us a message at lightwise@angel.com.

“Better a millstone be hung around your neck and you be cast into the sea than you should ever hurt one of these little ones.” ~ (Luke 17:2) There will be justice if not here on Earth then in the afterlife! Each one of us have been given a free will to choose right from wrong at any given moment, and these choices affect others, for good or bad! Every life matters and we are very much loved by our Heavenly Father, but He doesn’t condone sin! He cares for each one of us from the womb to the tomb, the body and spirit, but it’s the spirit that lives on for eternity, so please note that Jesus our Saviour, will be returning soon and we all will need to give an account of our lives: the thoughts, deeds, actions, words and motives done in the flesh, and who can stand before God? If you did not know, Jesus is our redeemer who came to save us from our fallen and sinful nature. If you don’t know Him yet and how He came to restore our relationship with God in heaven, who loves you and wants you to be reconciled to Him, I say to you today: Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes unto the Father but by Him, Jesus is the only one mediator between God and man, and only God can forgive sins. What is sin? It is knowing the right thing to do and not doing it. Sin includes things like sexual immorality, addictions, drunkenness, drugs, watching porn, lying, stealing, unforgiveness, hate, anger, gossiping, and much more. These separate us from God, who is holy and righteous and just. He weighs the motives of our hearts and all of us have missed the mark. The call to salvation is for everyone. Regardless of your wealth, status, sexual orientation or religious background, Jesus invites you to turn from sin and accept His gift of salvation. No amount of money, social standing, or religious observance can save you. It’s not about comparing yourself to others; the only comparison that matters is with God, and we all fall short, we all have sinned. God doesn’t want our religion; He wants a relationship with us. Good works cannot save you; there is nothing you can do to earn salvation. It’s by grace alone, so no one can boast. Our works are like filthy rags to a holy God. The Bible says the wages of sin is death, eternal separation from God in hell-a fate you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. We are created with a God-shaped vacuum that nothing else can fill but Him. Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins on the Cross so we can be restored to God, our heavenly Father. There needed to be a sacrifice, and God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, who was sinless, to take our place. It’s like a mother giving away her new-born baby or you giving away your only child to pay someone else’s debt, someone who couldn’t care less about you or love you back. God was willing to do that for you and me. Jesus Christ was crucified, with nails driven through His hands and feet and a crown of thorns pressed onto His head. He was whipped until His skin was torn off, becoming unrecognizable. As He hung on that Cross, He did it for your sins. He took our sins upon Himself, including the very sins that have destroyed our lives. He was destroyed for those sins on that Cross. He bled and died for our sins, which were buried with Him in the grave. Three days later, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. Jesus is alive! Now is the time to respond. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” This declaration and belief bring salvation. John 3:36 warns, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” Embrace this good news today and pray: “Dear God, thank you for loving me. I confess that I have sinned against you. I believe that Jesus, Your Son, died on the cross to pay for my sins. I believe that Jesus was raised from the dead. I ask that you forgive all my sins. I confess that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Thank you for Your gift of eternal life! I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.” Remember, it’s not the prayer that saves you; it’s the heartfelt belief and confession, repentance and choosing to trust in Jesus for a righteous life, from now on. Now is the time for salvation. Turn from darkness to light, from sin to salvation, and follow Jesus. Ask God for forgiveness of the wrong things you have done, repent (turn from them) and leave your old sinful ways behind, and begin a new and righteous life trusting in Christ Jesus, every single day, ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit to help you, and read your Bible and obey it, repent to God daily, connect to God through prayer and ask the Holy Spirit for revelation, guidance, wisdom and discernment.

Excellent actor!
I was just asking if he portrayed the devil or evil.
Rewatching The Chosen from the beginning for the fourth time, I am wondering why he is so slow to accept what he is seeing. I do adore his character tho, I’ve never thought he was evil.
Exquisite interview. Both guest and host were on the same bandwidth which made the listening intent and rich. Elijah is a deeply empathetic and responsible actor willing to plumb unseen possible depths to convey his story to his audience that just by being onscreen he adds potential wealth to the director. Without the help of this interviewer it would not have been this beautiful and nuanced. Thank you.
Gonna be that guy. The Palpatine reveal in TROS is secretly brilliant. Poe lives in a secular society, he won't know about the "Dark secrets" of Sith practices.
Interesting. I didn’t see him as evil. Just a guy loyal to an empire that doesn’t hold subjects in high esteem. He didn’t kill Z when he had the chance to. He pressured Quintice, which lead him to accidentally kill Ramah, but that wasn’t his intention at all. He clearly views Jesus as a potential threat after he saw Him walk on water, but even that just seems like he doesn’t fully know what he saw, or what it means.
🤔how do you know you're a good actor? Lol🤣🤭people don't like you? Good job kid💖☝️now don't be an evil scum pig in real life.💖👍😎
I don’t see the character as evil. Annoying as H yes but not evil. I do think he walks around stirring up trouble. But I don’t know if that equates as evil.
Why on earth are we asking Elijah Alexander about an evil character instead of asking the guy that plays Quintus or the guy that plays Caephus or the one that is arguing with Jesus right before they stabbed And killed off a character that I still can't believe is gone? Atticus might become more evil but as of now and at the very worst..... He's undecided but mostly he's been a GOOD guy. He has warned the disciples to keep jesus safe more than once and the only thing outright evil that I have ever heard him say to anybody was in the last episode when he told Quintus to get a handle on Jesus before there's more unrest. Which I believe irritated Quintus enough to go and do what he did. But it isn't Atticus' fault he did that, and I don't see Atticus as evil and if the actor does see it that way......... Why are we taking advice on how to play an evil character from Somebody that doesn't Know how to play an evil character? Because I haven't seen Atticus as evil AT ALL. We need to talk to somebody else. This actor doesn't know what he's doing.
I think his part isnt evil. Mean most the time but not evil. Evilness is devil. He does do a great job.
I love jim for the man of God he is ❤.
God bless you Jim!! Johannes 3:17!
"Joel." 👬 👌🏼😄
Homem do Bem...seu coração bate pelos outros...muito orgulho dele...exemplo para mim como ser humano
He is doing his job to the Cesar. But even then there is curiosity, after everything he saw. After knowing a little of the person Ellijah, I admire him still more.
My theory, and I'm almost completely convinced, is that Atticus is Satan.
This cat is a great actor love his character its real to me in the chosen well done sir you made me believe you were the roman Atticus. Excellent
He plays one of my favorite characters on Thw Chosen. I don't see him as evil, he's there on a mission and he seems to be turning towards christ.
I love the character of Atticus.
I'm impressed every time I hear this man Jim Caviezel talk and be interviewed by so many. Especially when it concerns his faith. Astonishing man who diverts the attention he recieves to his God.
Such an introspective interviewer!
Yes you r mean and Evil but is OK just playing
I think Atticus will be a big twist and be the gospel author Mark
I don't think atticus is evil. he's like Rome's FBI
Thank you. Very enlightening
His character and acting is incredible!
Fantastic Interview. Deep intelligent conversation and commentary by both Mary and Elijah. I've become a huge fan of Elijah Alexander from both his characterization of Atticus in the Chosen and the many recent interviews he's been doing. He is always interesting & provides deep perspectives on spirituality, humanity & art. And love every scene Elijah is in on the Chosen. The entire cast of the Chosen is absolutely outstanding but he & Jonathan Roumie's performances particularly draw you in.
In my perspective every human beeing has a set of 'believes', also historical psycopaths do. It is the order of prioroties of their individual 'faith' that makes them into f.e. killing beings or revenging ones. Thank you for this complex, facinating interview, so well done. I agree, Mr Alexander has a lot to teach and has an engaging and inspiring way to present his wealth of wisdom and experience. Thank you very much 🙏🏻
Thank you Elijah. Atticus is one of the more compelling characters on 'The Chosen'. He's a mysterious person. He has his sworn duty to Rome, and yet he's realistic enough to be cynical about aspects of Roman rule and Roman procedures. He continues to be curious about Jesus (and his followers) beyond his Roman assignment. After he witnessed the sermon on the mount, I began to believe that he was internally changed by what he'd seen and heard. And yet, there's always that sly 'Atticus smile" which hides everything and betrays nothing about the man. God bless you Elijah, and continued success for you in all of your endeavors.
I'm almost convinced Atticus is Satan.
I do not see his part in The Chosen as evil. I see him as a soldier of the Empire that he has sworn to uphold. He is often humorous at times.
Absolutely best interviewing and response. Bravo to both of you for your great communication skill set and complete content that is so open for discussion and highly detailed experts in each of your craft.
I don't see him as evil either
And hes warned disciples of coming problems for they and Jesus. He also fefends them to Quintus numerous times. Ive seen him as a potential Nicodemus all along. I knew Gaius would come around but only because of how hard the focus on him was beforehand. Plus hes as biblically as popularas as the women at the well, or the unclean woman who touches his garment in the crowd, or the paralytic on the roof. Quintus and Atticus are in the bible very VERY briefly and Im not sure they are even named to us in the Bible. Just as roman soldiers. I was suprised at just how many show characters are actually in the gospels. Dallas did a fantastic job of including EVERYTHING from the biblical accounts as a framework and building the added drama AROUND that truth instead of changing it. He DOES move the timeline around but its irrelevant because its in flashbacks or flash forwards so it doesnt mess with the source timeline. The man created a FANTASTIC show. My favorite for sure, and one that stands against any popular show ever. You could sit a Walking Dead or Game of Thrones viewer down and tell them to watch. Any that are completely biblically ignorant would still like the writing and score and characters. And anyone biblically knowledgeable will enjoy how well the stories are portrayed as well as fall in love with characters we mostly only know the names of. And for all its a fantastic evangelism tool. Ive seen reaction channels do this show and the questions that are answered for them are HUGE. From episode 1. When Jesus quotes Jacob back to Mary Magdela and says "you are mine" The calling of her to follow him in other words. That scene is THE MOST powerful scene Ive seen in ANYTHING EVER. And the rest of the miracles and "follow me's" are equally as fantastic. Plus..........the humor in it is always unexpectedly good. But it shows even more humanity in Jesus which are the best parts. You cant help but laugh as Jesus makes light of Andrews dancing or Peter's temper, or cry when you see his sadness as they demonstrate him in silence in a crowd. Its usually obvious he is quietly saying goodbye to the world and those he loves. While trying to find how to tell them the happy ending comes after an extremely heartbreaking plot twist. But the ending is SO WORTH IT.
His face when he is talking to Pilate when discussing Lazarus being brought back to life.
Fantastic discussion from both. Love the deep dive!
This was an Amazing interview Mary. I stumbled on this channel & am so glad I did! Mr. Alexander is a true Gem. So very thoughtful, insightful & such a truly gift to be part of the Chosen family. Thank you for saying “Yes” to portray the part of Atticus. Brilliantly done.
This was one of the best interviews I have ever seen - Bravo!
Looking good Joel!
Great job!
I so wish Elijah would establish his own teaching channel. He's an absolutely awesome teacher. Thank you for this interview. Be blessed.
Absolutely. He would be an amazing teacher/philosopher.
