I used to have each one of these components in their own LXC containers and VM's, but I changed to a single VM using this stack...and after a few months...Im going back. The VM is massive and takes forever to backup and restore. And it seems like when there is an update something always breaks and takes the whole stack down. I tried it, I did not like it.

While passthrough of disk from proxmox to the TrueNas VM works, it is highly discouraged. As you stated correctly, any abstraction between the disk and ZFS can cause problems. Even the loss of a pool. Therefore, one should consider always passing through the full HBA where the disks are attached to. That is considered best practice for virtualizing TrueNAS.

It's absurd the price you spent to build that, considering the NAS you can get for less than half of that.

i just realized it seems i could run one of these in router mode for a remote building (connected by fiber to the switch HA is on) and the ethernet will backhaul the information back to home assistant. that literally solves all my problems i was trying to figure out and i was going to end up just running two instances of Z2M which i didnt want to do.

Great video, i had some initial problems with the nvidia drivers for a RTX 3060. I ended up using 525 drivers and got it to work. I used the docker-compose file without traefik. I've watched your Traefik guide a couple times. I've been trying how to figure out how I can combine the 2 guides. I'd really love to have the SSL certs. Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried googling and chatgpt far. I do have my container backed up so I can restore it if I bork something up. Thanks in advance

Wouldn't it have been better to pass your SATA controller directly to your Truenas guest, rather than the individual drives? I have a similar build with both the SSD and HDD pools on the Truenas guest which are shared back to the Proxmox host via NFS as needed. Alternatively, throw a 2nd little SATA controller in the unused PCIe slot for a dedicated controller for the Truenas guest.

No ECC for a nas is kinda risky ngl

Auto for power is considered max anyway, and if you use higher than 100 you will interfere with weather radar for sure, staying on 100 or checking what radio frequencies are used in your region can be wise. The max speed is 867 Mhz so you are spot on already

But if to connect slzb-06 coordinator to raspbery or another host, same way as ZHA, I think is more stable than connecting to POE, but I'm not sure it's possible, have you try that way?

Few things to get off my chest 1. even turning those hdds on a side and using screws from perforated top panel would have been a better option. im imagining you still plan on cleaning living room and need to move that case at some point. you will end up with hdd failures sooner rather than later. 2. living room nas? with dual noise hdds? please try and give good advice to the average Joe that wants to build his first nas

Mimosa by Airspan is far better than Ubiquiti for point to point links the latest Mimosa A6 access point and the C6 receiver can negotiate a link of 1Gbps PtP. Ubiquiti devices just have a great design. That’s it. The performance is bad for indoor access points I would choose HPE Aruba or TP-Link Omada because the wireless performance on these devices is awesome

Tbh, used the UISP Wave Pico for a similar setup/challenge. Works perfectly, no digging, and tbh, it's pretty economical for a 60Ghz bridge.

Did you think of mounting the u7-outdoor AP to your garage instead? I bet that would have worked pretty well with the existing AP in the house. I ran fiber out to a shed that I built this year while I had the trench open. It was a fun project and its cool to think that a shed has fiber networking lol.

For my detached garage, we buried a Cat7 outdoor-rated cable when we first moved in. But recently I ran a fiber line over the air to try getting some crazy 10Gb speeds. In a previous project, I had set up some string lights for backyard / patio lighting. The lights hang from a tension cable - so I was able to just attach the fiber to that.

Why True Nas on Proxmox, It's Or nont And. 2 systems do the same, TrueNas is user friendly, proxmox not...

aw i hate passthru connectors lol. I think you really should have gotten outdoor rated cables tho. But Cat6a + only for me now, 10gbps at longer runs if I need it (back bone is all 10gb for me) and the shielding is a must for me as a ham too lol. All I have to say is I'm glad you used "B" much better and the honest standard for everyone but those weirdo a/v guys (I kid!)

I have 3 Synologys, all running containers. 15tb which is fully saturated. I have a ton of hdds in waiting and 2 pcs that I'm slowly building into servers..... My objective is to build a semi robust jellyfin share for my family. .. the synos don't have the guts to take on 1 additional user each. I would love to see something within legal boundaries, what you do if you share. Just My thoughts. Truly enjoy your content!

I saw SABRENT on the USB adapter, and knew it wouldn't boot. Doesn't disabling UAS mean you aren't getting the best possible speeds? Do yourself a favour, ditch sabrent (or anything that uses the same JMicron Technology chipset) and go with a USB to SSD that uses maybe ASMedia Technology or anything other than JMicron - note: on a non-pi system, JMicron is 1/10th the speed of ASMedia based USB to SATA

Hi there. First of all congratulations for your video. I'm a newbie on this stuff, especially on linux environments, and after tried a few months a working units with Truenas Scale, it seemed too complex to get it working also as a media center using Emby, and also a few other things like qbitorrent, etc. due to the annoying permissions sets... So you triggered me a desire to have a try on this combo Proxmox + Truenas Scale, but i miss some skills on that part of getting the whole hhd drives pass-through available to Truenas. I'm aware that this wasn't the purpose of your video, but can you please help me out? Or maybe have a dedicated video for that? 🙏 Thanks in advance

Don't you need proper ECC memory for ZFS? I thought standard memory was risky?
