My great great grandparents and their children ended up in Ironton a few years after coming from England in 1880. A great uncle of mine was born there, before they came to Oregon where Great Great Grandpa worked at the ironworks in Oswego.

Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, oldest lighthouse on the Great Lakes. You are in Port Huron, Michigan. Research the buildings, a lot of history.

That old piece of history at 1:52 is an old manual, "Capstan." The modern capstans on Tow Boats are motorized and work with the push of a button. They pull up line that secures the tow boat to the first three barges.

Great music, I worked for Magnolia Marine in the early 1980’s. Heavy oil barges, # 6 oil or asphalt is the normal for them

We had one pass by Keokuk this past summer. They were empty but they hauled liquid Nitrogen with those tanks according to the deckhand.

Watch mostly lake freighters but also love river traffic,very unique boats and understand their importance as well , love the music to !

Love the start and end of the video with the bridge which suggesting should have done some researched on , (. ex builder, cost , design type , ) even bridges have unique history, another suggestion, when the town was incorporated,design of the buildings and some of the older homes lot more history than you think , but it’s a GREAT video !

Awesome video. My profile pic is of the current Army Corp of Engineers' Mississippi which is the largest tow boat on the Mississippi while you shown the Mississippi II. If you look up "Jeffboat" on Wikipedia then you get a lot of info about boat making in Jeffersonville and possibility why they had that construction fencing up. You shown picture of modern steamboats. American Queen might not ride the rivers again. The company is looking into donating the American Queen to a city or something. The American Cruise Lines bought the American Queen boats but they are scrapping a few due to repair costs.
