DIY Garmin G1000 - Part 2
This design is based on Flight Sim Maker G1000 3D printed design and uses the PCBs designed by Flight Sim Maker to minimize the setup time and required wiring and get a more professional finish.
I have sliced his 3D design into several different layers of Opal (Translucent White) Acrylic sheets which have been laser cut and glued together with water-thin acrylic cement.
I used EC11 dual encoders instead of the 3D printed DIY dual encoders, hence design files are adjusted accordingly.

      I just went through the FlightSimDIY documentation.... this new design is awesome! you can use all the new Mobiflight improvements (like using MUX, etc.) which didn't exist when I started to build my SIM. this new design has zero wiring...( which still causes me pain when I need to move my setup ( the Dupont connectors become loose or dislocated.) It gives you expansion packs to run more pins using the same Arduino. another interesting thing is to adjust the LCD brightness/ panel backlight with the Arduino PWM pins and MOSFET... If I were you, I wouldn't waste any time on this old design and would go straight to the FlighSimDIY design... :)

      Hi, I am glad you like the videos.... here is the original list of materials from FlightSimMaker:docs.google.com/presentation/d/1siKPc6BkJSg9kihLLKLU8frNLp2IIBlw_dUE9n4Btq4/edit?usp=sharing I just followed his path and used his PCBs. Push buttons are: Tact Button Switch 6x6x5mm this is the economic way of doing it. if you want a better result for your backlight, you can use push buttons with built-in LED. if you want to design your own PCBs, I recommend going down this path: th-cam.com/video/x-bSPmkvHg8/w-d-xo.html it will save you a lot of headaches on the wiring... let me know if I can help in any way. Good Luck!

    Super nice job ! I see you use two different laser cutters, which is the first one ? I understand that a K40 cannot cut the frame parts because some are too big, but is there a reason the first machine could not properly engrave the buttons ?

    • @HomePilot
      @HomePilot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Denis, I only have a K40. I didn't use 2 different laser cutters. I have done some upgrades on the laser machine during the process though. K40 is capable of cutting the full-sized bezel frame in one go. It closely fits within the K40's working area. I just made 2 different plans to allow me to use my existing offcuts to save some money on the expensive material! I didn't have any problem cutting/engraving the parts with K40. the only problem with engraving the buttons would be the laser focus as the K40 lenses' height is not adjustable, so you may need to lower/higher the bed to get the best focus. my suggestion is not to fully focus the lens when you are engraving, it will give you a better result than a fully focused laser beam. Please let me know if I was unclear in explaining it.

       @Tommaso Carbone , @tocarbo1 I finally managed to put the sim back together after some upgrades and improvements, and the first thing I tested was the pilot and co-pilot brakes. I have got them working, and it works like a charm. Solution: In MSFS2020, when you are configuring the joystick controls, it has 2 empty boxes in front of each axis. for example for the left brake axis, configure the first box with the pilot's left brake input and the second box with the co-pilot input. it worked for me with no need for any third-party software to sync the joystick inputs. Note: I am using 2 different Arduino Leonardo joystick controllers (one is connected to the pilot and the other one is connected to the co-pilot brake), but I think it should work using the same (single) controller ( I haven't tested that). good luck!
