🔥Making a lot of pickles today with my mother🥒
Today was a day filled with the familiar scent of vinegar and dill as my mother and I spent hours in the kitchen making pickles. We started by washing and sterilizing the jars, ensuring that everything was clean and ready for the pickling process.
Next, we sliced the cucumbers into uniform rounds, careful to not make them too thick or too thin. My mother showed me how to pack the jars tightly with the cucumber slices, leaving just enough room at the top for the brine.
The brine was a simple mixture of vinegar, water, salt, and sugar, heated on the stove until everything dissolved. Once it was ready, we poured the hot brine over the cucumbers, filling each jar to the brim.
After sealing the jars, we placed them in a large pot of boiling water to process. The sound of the jars clinking together as they boiled was oddly satisfying.
As the pickles cooled on the counter, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. There's something special about spending time in the kitchen with my mother, carrying on traditions and creating something delicious together.
I know that these pickles will be enjoyed for months to come, a reminder of the time we spent together on this hot summer day.

Ingredients:
Ingredients you'll need to make the pickle liquid base:
Equal parts white distilled vinegar and water
2/3 tablespoon per cup of total pickle liquid
Aromatics of your choice (fresh garlic, fresh herbs, black peppercorns, coriander seeds, bay leaves, juniper berreis, etc.)
Vegetables of your choice (cucumbers, carrots, onions, green onion whites, hard peaches, radish, etc.)
Example Pickle Liquid Recipe:
2 cups (400g) white distilled vinegar
2 cups (400g) water
2.5 tablespoons (40-45g) kosher salt
