    I am 5 weeks RTK post-op and up walking with my Rollator. I am able to straighten my knee, however my flexion is about 65-70 degrees. Doing home exercises and out patient PT. The swelling is still prominent. Elevating and icing but swelling still preventing from gaining flexion. Frustrated. But am moving along slowly but surely. Thanks for the video.

    These exercises are very helpful, thank you. I have no problem with extension, but my biggest obstacle for flexion is intense pain, just below the crease of the knee on the outside, which I guess is the hamstring. There is a palpable knot there. Doing the heel slides is excruciating, but my physical therapist insists on continuing to do them. I feel that they’re actually causing damage and slowing my progress down. After being pretty successful with a cane, I had to go back to the walker after my second physical therapy session. Do you have any advice for dealing with this? I have already told the therapist that I’m not going to do any exercise that causes that much pain. People around me keep insisting that I have to go through that pain in order to regain my motion range. I was at 0-110 degrees when I started physical therapy, so I don’t have that far to go. I really don’t want to be subjected to this brutal therapy anymore. I did almost no exercises for those first two weeks and came out with a good range of motion. I’m tempted to just let it be and just use gentle work at home if anything, but the prevailing wisdom seems to be that that is not going to happen. my experience from past hamstring injuries, though, is that ice and rest are the keys. Not overexerting I don’t know what to do.

      Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! I really appreciate your comments and questions! If I were you I would still focus on your range of motion exercises and maybe explore other stretches that aren’t so painful. There are many different exercises to help with improve knee flexion. Also I would recommend exploring some soft tissue massage if you haven’t already done so. Addressing any tightness around the fascia and tissue can make a dramatic difference with pain and your range of motion. Here are a few videos below on my channel where I go over these items: ➡️ th-cam.com/video/Kc4acFuc_Fs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wI9uweOeNroM3TBT ➡️ th-cam.com/video/X1IKepSl0fw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=reUVD8GJrbVIh_NN

    I had my knee replacement 8 months ago. They told me it was a painful op, bloody hell he wasn't lying. Certainly made me sweat and swear a lot. My daughter stayed with me one night and then she had to work. Trying to do what the physio told me. I was good and did my exercises. It's better than it was but stil!.have pain in the right side of my right knee. I'm worried that pain is my fibro. I fell.on my knees last week, straight down on both of them. Bloody hell it hurt, I have bruises on both knees. My straight scar has now gone and my scar is veering to the left. The surgeon asked about my other knee. I said it's staying where it bloody is. Never again !!!!!!

I also noticed that every time i do my grocery the pain elevated 😢 im living alone so im trapped with this condition can you suggest anything? I also noticed that stirring the food while cocking is also a trigger for me i dont know what to do ? Its my dominant hand i feel im trapped

      Thanks for watching! You can use it for however long you need to! The tape usually stays on for 4-5 days and I know some of my patients use 2 applications a week. If it’s working you can continue to use it until your pain levels start to improve!

    I was told not to do squats with 2 bone on bone knees. That one exercise looks like a squat to me. Also, I was told non weight bearing exercises were best.

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching! Unfortunately this is a myth! Squatting is one of the best exercises you can perform to help build functional strength in the knees. Everyone will have to modify accordingly based on their pain levels but by no means is this bad for you. Weight bearing exercises are key to maintaining strength, improving bone mass, and preventing conditions like sarcopenia.

    I am 2 weeks past surgery as of today. It hurts. Not too swollen, minimal bruising. I am worried about not being able to flex enough. I am about at 90 and can push further but with lots of pain. I left PT today in tears from forced flexion. Any advice or encouragement?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! You are doing an amazing job if you can get to 90 degrees already at 2 weeks! This is a huge accomplishment! Remember this is a hard procedure and the rehab will be the most important part of your recovery. It won’t be easy but you can get stronger! You’ll be happy you did it once you’re past the 10-12 week more. Be patient and gentle to yourself and focus on mini goals each week.

    I am day 6 after partial KR surgery - I very actively trained for this surgery by doing a variety of exercises to flex and strengthen my knees. My flexion is 100+ and pain reasonable without narcotics. I keep the ice machine on the knee most of the time including to sleep. These exercises are spot on- pushing just past the pain point is key to progress. I am encouraged I will be playing pickleball in a couple months 😊

    Also, if you do both knees at separate times, expect the situation to be different than each other. My worst knee did much better than my less bad knee, which is odd except for the fact I have more whole leg trouble with the latter than the former. I'm so glad I did the worst knee first because it made me more positive when I did the other knee. All my medical personnel advised me there will be a difference between the two knees, so I knew that was normal. Follow all of your instructions and when you can't tell your medical staff so they can help you with your challenges.

    This is great information to give to people. I learned all of this from my at-home PT the first 2 weeks after both my knee surgeries. I have fibromyalgia and reactive arthritis, so the nerve block only lasted 8 hours and then I had to have an upgrade in pain meds and my at home PT taught me how to lessen the pain with certain movements. Being used to PT, I followed what she said as much as I could and told her where my weaknesses were so she could teach me how to mitigate those. She had me at almost full range by the end of her stint and my outpatient PT got me the rest of the way. Listen to your PT people, tell them your struggles, and follow what they say - it's the best way to advance at a normal to slightly better rate which will help you in the long run. I didn't do the exercises as much as I was supposed to because of my chronic issues but when I did them, I was faithful. I did a lot more exercises as I was stationary which kept everything limber.

    I labeled alarms on each medication to take at what time every day and night. That was a real save because you need take the meds regularly and then know when to take them as you're tapering off pain meds. Had 2 knee replacements 7 months apart. Worked both times. My sister came to help assist me and coach me too.

    Great video but one thing that is really frustrating me is everyone keeps saying have a support system. I have to do this solo, meaning I do not have anyone who can come stay with me. The best I can do is plot out my medicine on a calendar and set alarms. Has anyone gone through this alone before? My first TKR is in 3 weeks. I am 57 but relatively healthy.

    I’m 66 and have had a total ankle replacement and both shoulders replaced all with 20 months. Lessons learnt: 1) don’t come off pain killers too soon, you will regret it (sorry about the constipation) 2) Work at your recovery every day and then continue in the gym building muscle on what you’ve had done 3) Be confident, live your life- it’s what you had it done for! I’m on my 4th op next month, partial right knee replacement, then within next 12 months, the other knee then right hip. Bring it on!

    Great video, and I'll follow this advice. A cortisol shot resolved my elbow pain on the outside of my left elbow while playing golf. However, when hitting out of the sand, with the resistance there, I still feel a faint pain at the tip of the tendon. So I avoid hitting out of the sand, but would like to get back to it. How do I prepare the elbow for it? Thank you.

    I got my surgery on Monday. Today is Saturday and I’ve done a lot of things wrong, but I couldn’t help some of the things. My caregivers were in Northwestern, North Carolina and couldn’t get to me because of the flooding and then my husband came down with a really bad back and leg and he couldn’t help that just said everything back For me I’ve been in a lot of pain today. I haven’t wanted to take the oxycodone because it was making me crazy but I had to take it today because I think I overdid my physical therapy yesterday and I was as well as not sleeping last night or the night before, but I did take a nice nap, this is brutal but I do appreciate his tips and I will continue using my walker and I’m glad I heard this because I wasn’t using it as much as I did a day or so ago God bless all of you!

      @MovewithDrMike 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! If it feels comfortable to use pillows then by all means keep using them but if you support your leg up too high it might be uncomfortable. Play with the support before bed and see how you feel!
