The Science of Snags | Peel River
WaterNSW recently placed 50 snags from reclaimed hardwood trees along a 45km section of the Peel River between Chaffey Dam and Tamworth.
To help us monitor their success, we've kicked off a sharing of knowledge to our next generation of custodians. The WaterNSW First Nations team led the engagement as part of our reconciliation work to improve First Nations connection to Country. WaterNSW aquatic experts, local Elders and the Walaaybaa Rangers came together on the banks of the Peel River near Tamworth last week for an outdoor education experience with local high school students.
First Nations people shared knowledge with local students from Tamworth, Peel, Oxley and Farrer Memorial Agricultural high schools about caring for Country and water, and WaterNSW experts explained how they use science to monitor and understand the river. Co-designed activities like cultural storytelling, electrofishing, seed bombs and autonomous monitoring boats blended modern scientific methods of protecting waterways with traditional knowledge to explore the benefits of recently installed snags and how we can measure their success.
The Rangers will be invited to help us monitor the project over the next five years, learning more about modern and scientific methods and how they blend along the way.
Learn more about the program and the benefits of snags at www.waternsw.com.au/community-news/the-flow/2024/scientists-and-elders-collaborate-on-river-health/

WaterNSW staff are at Menindee this week, trialling an innovate approach to introduce dissolved oxygen into the Darling River. 🐟 🐟 In a first for NSW, we’ve installed an underwater outlet to release highly-oxygenated water into the river. We’ll measure whether this boosts levels of dissolved oxygen in the area, which could reduce the risk of large-scale fish deaths that have occurred in recent ...

Cameras dont stop,em ive herd local hoon idiots finding hidden council cameras near Goulburn speedway by using a E.F.R or E.M.F reader things they learn in school 🤔 cheeky ay the same ones are illegally hunting throughout the region on night runs through the week .this device it'll pick up a battery as small as a button battery. a solid lead box is the only thing it cant read though then it becomes pointless due to the Camera not being able to transmit live feed to their phones though lead So heads up nsw waters your cameras are not as safe as yous think. Might need a better plan guys like a permit system for responsible 4x4ers , campers and responsible people alike . So come on while responsible people are in there the bonus is ones like i mentioned wont try it due to being spotted to easy . Dont burn the hand that helps you. If you want respect it works both ways it reciprocates.

NSW tax payers continue to waste $millions every year just giving money to Veolia to keep the Cronulla desalination plant just ticking over but not contributing to water supply as it was planned. No supply means Veolia makes no money, so part of their contract was to be paid in full even when supplying a paltry 1% of the plant's capacity. Another reason never to vote for Liberals or the Coalition in NSW.

that is an emergency spillway, not an ordinary spillway. It activates automatically by water pressure in the event the dam is dangerously overfull. It allows the water to safely rush out without making the dam collapse.
