I think you're setting yourself up for failure by making your low-buy rules more restrictive than the goals you weren't able to meet in 2024. Your spending and decluttering are progressing in the right direction and you should celebrate that. If 2025 continues to improve, you should focus on that success, not trying to meet the punishing <$200 budget

These goals will likely span more than one year, but I'm okay with that because establishing new habits is one of the most important outcomes I'm looking for here. 1) No buy for entire year -- only permissible exceptions will be necessities that I deplete (remover, cottons, etc) 2) Assemble third Helmer; empty & line <all> Helmer drawers to keep bottles from sliding; once all Helmers (and other overflow storage) are emptied, then re-sort and reorganize into Helmers, and label the drawers...haven't considered what I'll do if entire collection *STILL* doesn't fit even after the addition of the 3rd Helmer 3) Begin going drawer-by-drawer creating manicures with EVERY SINGLE POLISH IN MY COLLECTION...no skipping allowed, which I hope will force me out of my comfort zone & stimulate creative thinking/usage of the collection 4) As I work through the drawers, begin going back through swatch sticks [one of the few nail related things I've managed to stay on top of] and re-sorting them to better match my newfound appreciation of the nuances of the polish shades/finishes 5) Corral and organize all basic essentials (top & base coats, cuticle oils, etc) and non-polish nail supplies (stencils, decals, charms, powders, etc) 6) Master stamping, marbling, fluid art, foils and any other nail art methods I've accumulated supplies for since falling into this wild world of nail craziness Whew!! I always make these 'resolutions' lists too massive, and then I begin to feel like I'm already behind...for instance, it's currently 12:35pm on January 2 and I'm all tense about not having gotten started yet!!!

I have 165 polishes. It turns out that it is enough to wear every polish once for two years. I have about 12 untried in my collection. Once I try a polish I either keep it in the collection or boot it to purgatory. If I do dislike a polish I replace it with one from purgatory. I can't keep buying polish for the rest of my life, so I'm ditching collecting them. I took up watercolor painting again and it's another color love so I am satisfied. I also will allow myself to buy one polish a year. It's just in case a new finish appears and I like it. Good luck with your destash/rules. Have a good new year.

My tentative plan for 2025: no buy on indies, low buy on drugstore. I think the budget will like that. And finally swatching my collection on swatch sticks. I’m close to ten years into this hobby and never done this. Started this big project by buying 800 swatch sticks and finding the dymo printer. Now it’s time to just do it. 😅

My goals: 1. Finish swatching my polishes on swatch sticks (I still have some from Black Friday 2022 that haven’t been swatched. 😅) 2. Do another big destash by finding dupes/near dupes and keeping only the best one! 3. Go on a super low buy. I was up and down with mine in 2024 but it ended much more up than I’d like, especially since I haven’t been painting my nails much at all. I think that’s a good start. Good luck staying on track with yours! That new budget is a bit scary as is your one in three out rule. 😱 You are a brave woman! 😅

I knew I would see Holo Taco Spirit Fingers in your top 20.

I plan to: 1) Go on a soft no buy/low buy for the rest of winter and spring, 2) Use all of my untrieds, and 3) Work towards using up at least one polish. I am not going to be heartbroken if I don’t use up a full polish, but I want to see some serious use on one or even a few. I definitely want one completely used up and moved out of my collection by the end of 2026. Maybe a few destashed as well.

Buy one , Destash one you don’t love anymore sounds like a good plan tfs

My goals for this year are: 1) Keep polish purchases to only a few brands. I did this last year and it made a huge difference in my purchasing behavior. 2) Wear 70% of my polishes during the year. Last year I wore a little over 50% of what I own. 3) Be honest with myself about what types of polishes I enjoy. Get rid of ones that have tricky formulas, that don’t flatter me or that I truly haven’t been wearing in the last 2-3 years.

I always enjoyed the whole collection project polish videos. I did pretty well with my goals last year (mostly to get through my untrieds) & I want to focus this year on re-wearing the polishes that haven't been worn in 2+years.

I just finished adding up what I spent on polish in 2024 so my first goal is to reduce my spending by half in 2025. My second goal is to be ruthless in destashing. I don’t have a huge collection but I know for a fact that I have some polishes that I’ll never wear/never wear again. Third goal is to wear all of my untrieds. Started off strong by using an untried today!

I think you made WAY better progress on your project than I have! Keep at it, and Happy New Year!

I'm Over Brew is one of my favorite polishes of all time. I've always loved darker reds but they always have some purple in them and I don't really love how it looks on me. But Over Brew is so unique and well formulated and so I'll never be "over" Over Brew. 😂

It's strange you had to build up your HT Crystal Skys, it was pretty opaque on me in 2 coats. I wonder if you got a bad batch? Yours looks brighter than mine, but it could be the camera or my own screen, mine just seems slightly muddier. Also I wanted to let you know that that one isn't limited edition, so if you can't make it work as a topper don't feel too bad if you need to get rid of it. The Nine Zero polish with black flakes are always so interesting to me, I kind of want a polish like that in my collection at some point.

Wow, you’ve done so well at destashing. Although I have taken some out of my ‘visable’ collection I’ve yet to get the guts to actually destash. Also randomly, I swear down I’ve got AE Incense burner but can I find it, nope. I’m still convinced I have it somewhere though 🤷‍♀️
