AAC Classroom Drop In: Mrs. Janssen Embeds AAC in Group Instruction Time
มุมมอง 892 หลายเดือนก่อน
Mrs. Janssen, Ms. Carney and Ms. Carlson began planning to integrate AAC into their instructional routines a few weeks ago. Using our Routine AAC Target Planner, they wrote down their schedule, chose their target words/messages, made sure they had multiple ways of modeling (posters, desk boards, AAC devices) and got started modeling these words and symbols during a typical instructional routine...
Telling my story with AAC support, and Elephants!
มุมมอง 7413 หลายเดือนก่อน
Quite a few years ago our friend had a great experience at Two Tales Ranch Zoo to share with us. We used his NovaChat AAC device to plan out what he wanted to say and saved it into his stories. Planning ahead helps us remember all the details we want to share, even when talking to new people in new situations. My friend used to be a full-time AAC users but has been able to transition to communi...

She picked a movie she likes to vote.
Katie at the store using her AAC device in the community she is nonverbal she’s at Walmart I don’t really go that much I like Target better.
Can I construct myself one? I am an Aspie and I really want to build one.
Hi, I'm not sure if it could be done, but the component parts are basically available now. The newest devices are built on windows computers with eye gaze cameras attached. iOS options are also becoming available, currently using facial recognition and eye tracking, but I hear eye gaze access is soon to come!
Yes! That’s the plan. We have several wonderful teachers we want to highlight over time here!
Ms Cuddyer is a wonderful teacher who does a fantastic job integrating communication and language development knowledge in such an engaging manner!
I’d love to see more videos by her. 😃
I love how you teach language, sentences, sight words, vocabulary, and all the things! Nice work!
Wow, thank you! Ms. Cuddyer is amazing!
Dies anyone know how to get rid of the up and down arrows? Didn't used to have them now we do.
Hi, yes, I apologize it too, time for us to get back to you. This is a setting in TD Snap. If you go into the edit mode (touch the top right corner cog), go down to the User Tab, select Access, then be sure under Options you have "Swiping" set as your navigation option. I'll post a video to show you in just a sec!
@dtaschools Thanks so much! I appreciate the response. 😇
very helpful , i would like to order one machine, i am in South Africa
Hi! Sorry so long to respond! We don’t sell AAC devices but the ones on the video are from Saltillo and Tobii Dynavox companies.
Could you share the name of the program you are using in this video? It looks like a really great program. ☺️
Yes! This is TD Snap from Tobii Dynavox. I have highly customized it to have all of my student's favorites!
@@dtaschools Awesome! Thanks so much!
I'm Autistic and a primarily verbal AAC user. The evidence is clear that it can only help and support language development. I can speak verbally but I need the device for a variety of reasons. I can't always functionally use the speech I have. Sometimes I can picture the item but I can't remember the word or can't access within my brain how to say it. The goal should always be functional communication. Verbal speech isn't actually superior or better than a device anyway. What's important is the ability to say what you want, when you want, where you want with whoever you want.
I appreciate you sharing your experience! May I share you comments with our other audiences? I believe it’s very helpful for parents of Autistic students to hear this information!
@@dtaschools yes please do
Thank you so much! How would you like to be referred to?
Nini or Dani, and I use identity first language so Autistic no with autism
Great video! We also use a prentke romich vantage lite communication device.they really help us communicate and be heard.
That’s great!!
Heads up! The Classroom Communication Goals Grid is now FREE to download either on TPT- Vicki Clarke & the AAC Chicks or our website www.mydynamictherapy.com
great video!
we are identical twins who have Autism and we can be nonverbal at times and we both have an xpress in 2022 and we find them great.they really help us.
That's great!! We have so many friends who use AAC some of the time and speech at other times!
Fabulous example🙌🏼
I know! This young man shocked me at how quickly he picked up the technique!
❤👍
Hello! Where can I download/purchase the "Getting Dressed" book? I saw the flipbook in your tpt store, will the other book become available to purchase?
Our core books are part of the All Year Core and More series available to our DTA Schools website members. We have all of our light tech materials, monthly core theme based materials, training resources and webinars for $100/year. Dtaschools.com. We may start breaking out the different materials to put on TPT but I’d like more books first. Thanks for asking!!
This is one of the BEST video examples of using aided language/modeling I've seen. I especially appreciate this interaction with a young adult, as most videos are with small children. Please share more videos with teens/young adults/adults! Thank you!
YES! This is wonderful. Such a sincere and natural interaction - and he's not in pre-school! It's true! These students don't disappear once they reach middle school! Unfortunately, sometimes they have to wait until adulthood to even be introduced to AAC. Thank you and Kendal for sharing.
i have the xpress too i LOVE IT it is just perfect !!!
love it Damon your a CHAMP!!!!
Unfortunately Damon's speech therapist doesn't know how to pronounce wrestler names!
Very nice, Vicki. I love watching her program independently! Dean Johnson
