Dropping chutes at POWDER MOUNTAIN UT
Directly to the right of Paradise Liftline, about 1/3 of the way up.
Powder mountain has 6000 acres limited to 2000 skiers/riders a day. But beware ... some of the slowest lifts in UT.

average black crow skier, just way over there head and sideslipping
stop driving your skis with your shoulders. cool runs!
nice skiing!! can't wait for the season to start!!!
July 22, 2024 Currently 100° in the valley. I can't wait :)
"...doesn't look steep..." oh, man, does it ever look steep. not sure if it was the camera angle or the tree for perspective, but that last 'chute' looked crazy.
Twenty years ago on my first day at Snowbird (in a storm) first run we hooked up with a resort guide and he turned his coat inside out and took us up to Get Serious chute. Back then, guides were not supposed to take people under a rope into extreme areas. I think we went in right there but back then the trees were more dense. We squeezed through and swung into the chute by using a fixed rope and grabbing tree roots. Much steeper than it looks. The first 10-15 ft is a straight drop. I'd never done anything like that before or since. Really nice to see this video of a moment that was so long ago. Thank you for posting.
Skied Snowbird once back in 85.alta as well.Solitude.Snowbird just stood out to me.Look back was nust nothing like it.
this guy reminds me of the guy on breaking bad that gets his baseball cards stolen
Just sent this! So fun!
Now my legs are tired.
if he could add a little hook/pop to the end of his turns, with a downhill pole plant, it would slow him down and set up his next turn right away.
No helmet? Harder than steel.
That was dope man nice work
Those look like Black Crow Capitus. Black Crow Justis would have skied easier, more properly matched to this slope. I like Snowbird.
I've got a huge dent in the back of my helmet from Great Scott. Got lucky.
Lucky??
@@awoogagoogaloo2889 hooked the nose off my board on a rock and forced into a front flip off a cliff drop. Landed on my back on rocks below. If I wasn't wearing a helmet...I was toast. Insane welts and bruises on my back. A lesson in caution. So I consider myself lucky on that one.
Did it in 2003 after a huge dump of powder. Was heaven.
why tf would you duck the rope?
There are 2 types of ropes closed and warning. This was a warning.
@@disc2120 honestly a good way to keep idiots out of these areas
he already went through the avalanche gate
pretty good, but i must say there were more cuts in the video than vertical feet you travelled on the run.
Chutes ok if rocks visible
Ski a 45 degree angle they said. It’s not dangerous they said
Literally nothing happens. Kiffa: “wooooh”
With 900 inches of snow, some people can still find rocks to ski on.
snowbird webpage says less than 400 inches of snow this season, to date 2-21-24
@@rd264 Nextdoor Alta passed 420" this week.
Enjoyed, a little less editing would have made it better and more real. Otherwise, fantastic.
you gotta just straight line those lol
Lesson from this video: avoid High Defiance.
Noice run, mate! I was thinking that's where I would make my first turn, too. The snow is so quiet--wonderful!
F U N 😊
Yeah, don't duck the rope no matter what the sign says. If they're closed, they're closed.
he already entered the avalanche gate. the rope he ducked is just a warning to keep noobs from falling off cliffs.
Did he ever consider that ski patrol roped off the entrance because they accessed that the entrance was skied off and dangerous. Just because there are tracks going in doesn’t mean that it’s still safe when you duck the rope.
that rope is always there, it keeps out the tourists (at least some of them)
Ropes are often used to keep traffic down and the snow good for people who can actually ski steep terrain.
What camera are you using?
Underated
You're killing me. That area was my stomping ground 150 days a year for 5 years!! It's not steeper than 45degrees, but it's amazingly steep tree skiing. I lived for Gad II thunder bowl tree skiing. That area is open quite often if you're there everyday. That place is off the hook a couple week days after a powder dump. Missing it right now.
the exact spot he was standing on was easily 45 degrees. not the slope overall tho.
@@bob15479 I guess it's a matter of the distance you're measuring.
You’re not a good enough skier to be skiing this terrain
I wasn't going to say that because I was being nice. The side slipping kills me. I lived on this run for years, link your turns damn it! OK, I'm better now....
He made it down, so direct evidence to the contrary.
@@robertstevens1766 anyone can get down anything. Gravity and side slipping makes it so.
@@BumpSplat1 Its a progression and often it's just getting used to the higher game. Many years ago, I started skiing with a group of people who skied above my pay grade, and I often felt uncomfortable and slow. Slowly that all changed and what once seemed crazy steep and tight felt normal. He will be fine, and he is hurting no one.
@@mtadams2009 My comment stays true with your words. I only complain when they side slip a tight chute and I have to get creative on entry and exit. We all start somewhere, Snowbird isn't for the faint of heart.
great job
Not many linked turns here. Perhaps the pucker factor for Kiffa was a little too high. I've been on this run many times and it is a blast.
thank you
Looks steep on camera means it's super steep!
Was just there last week. I saw this chute every time I went up Gadzoom I believe. Not for me, but love the video. I did enjoy plenty of the Lower Cirque as well as the Mineral Basin.
The video never does the steepness worthy!!
Man the camera never conveys just how steep it is. Thx for the vid!
toughest thing is just the narrowness and rocks. I ski 192s and it's a huge pain to squeeze in there.
Where is Ur ski buddy ? One misplaced turn, eqpt. Malfunction or Injury and ur taking a loooong nap in a tree well!!! Always have a ski buddy with you
Tree wells are minor in these conditions. On a powder day, now that's a different story.
"Snowboarders scraping all the snow off the mountain!"
What else are you supposed to do there? Possibly tear up your skis? Hell no
@@averagejojofan8649 oh now you now you want to start reasoning?
It’s because many boarders suck and try to ride way above their skill level. The side slide is like the snow plow for skiers. Please note I know there are many good boarders.
Keep your shoulders square facing downhill. You can clearly see your arm turning up hill in the camera aka, your shoulders are turning uphill. I used to do the same thing when nervous about a steep…, once I figured that out, I ski 1000% better.
This takes a lot less snow off the runs than snowboards
5:07 here is where I would shit my pants
This does not look like fun at all. Give me a groomer any day!!
It's a lot like spicey food, you either live for it, or you don't. Personally, dial it up to a 10/10 for me!
3:07 best part
Steepest place to ski in the U.S.? Nowhere in America do I get as nervous looking over the edge of in-bounds runs.
Then you haven't been to enough places. There are plenty of resorts that have sustained near verticle in bound runs. Squaw, Kirkwood, A Basin, Winter Park, Jackson Hole to name a few that are in the U.S. let alone another large handful in Canada. If you really want to scare the skis off your feet take a trip to Kicking Horse in Golden B.C.
@@smumm fun fact, the average angle of snowbird is stepper than JH. Also you see how this entire run is in the shadow…JH has less than 10% of their runs with this aspect. In my opinion the dirty bird is the best steep skiing INBOUNDS mountain in N. America. JH has too much eastern aspect. KH doesn’t get enough snow. Kirkwood’s snow has too much water density. Same with Whistler. A basin has the terrain but not enough snow. Winter Park doesn’t have enough pucker factor terrain.
@@anthonysteen56 I will tell u a basin def got some wicked steep shit. The front gullies are a sustained pitch of 48 degrees or more
Looks tight like some of those New England glade runs!
Try crested butte and all of the steeps there. Crazy hard and if you don’t know where you are going, you could die.
Be careful following “tracks” at snowbird. Crazy people ski there
Loooool I got a mountain like that but I trust the tracks
Yeah learnt dat the hard way 😂
Yeah learned that the hard way. Followed some tracks through the trees and ended up at a 15 foot cliff
😂😂😂
Not bad.
Reminds me of Paradise at Mad River Glen. Great job there.
Much tighter trees at MRG. Glades out west are wide open by comparison
