Toccatina - Dmitri Kabalevsky
Toccatina (no. 12 from Thirty Pieces for Children, Op. 27), Dmitri Kabalevsky (1904 - 1987)
CPP-4, Lesson 1: Inverted Chords and Chord Review.
Ug, lots of room for improvement (speed, clarity, dynamics, consistency!) Articulation also needs work in spots (a couple broken slurs and the last descending part shouldn't be legato in the LH).
Overall this reminds me of my struggles with the Burgmuller Arabesque. These quick technical pieces are definitely not my strong suit.
Recorded September 2024. Played on a Casio PX-770, Pianoteq 8 (Hamburg Steinway D Prelude Recording).

Little Stream (from Trinity Piano Exam Pieces 2023, Grade 3), Ilona Jurničková A bit fumbly, especially in the scale passages. Never could quite iron out the hesitation in measure 15, it's a pretty big leap in the LH! And I blow through what should be a ritardando at the end of the middle section (oops!) Given another week or two I might be able to clean it up and eek out a few more bpm, but I'...

The Sad Ghost (from ABRSM Piano Exam Pieces 2023 & 2024, Grade 3), Nancy Litten A fun little piece. This recording is a little messy - some stumbles/uncoordinated notes here and there, and I'm not as accurate counting the rests as I should be - but I think it captures the sad ghost vibe! Hi Ted, this sounds great! Just be careful of wrong notes - it may be a result of the edition you are using. E.g. the second chord should be D minor 7 C,D,A,D,F, whereas you are playing D,F,A,D,F. I am no expert myself but I think this is definitely a mistake - I am reading from the Henle Urtext (these are great editions which I highly recommend). Otherwise sounds beautiful!!!!

    • @tedatthepiano
      @tedatthepiano 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Typical technique where you are lifting and depressing the pedal right after pressing the new note/chord so everything stays connected. Allysia calls it 'syncopated pedaling', others call it legato (or overlapping, or delayed) pedaling. So yeah, clearing the pedal immediately after the beat (not on the beat) so you don't end up with gaps in sound.
