I considered one of these when shopping for a new stove but opted for the American -made Vermont Castings Defiant instead. I can't speak for the Jotul bur I can for the VC Defiant which we like very much and is also made of cast iron. We had come down to 3 choices: the Jotul, the Vermont Castings and the Blaze King. I think they're all pretty good stoves. The VC just had the best features.
Howdy! Cool video :^) just found a huge nest today
Thanks! 🥕
Cabbage works every time
Wrong the groundhog here won't touch carrots and thus far anything else. He comes out in the day light around 5pm and ignores the live trap all together. He munches on the green wild growing plants and he is not shy. After he munches he returns to his hole and might pop up a day to a week later.
No joke I’m certain I have the fastest growing and longest nose hairs I’ve had hairs just as long as this multiple times.
Some queen hornets may hibernate inside an abandoned nest so wait till spring to bring it in a house.
Do a video using different baits, to prove it’s the best. I’ve seen videos of peanut butter and cantaloupe and, they both work very well. I’m trying cantaloupe today. Just saw one in my yard twice today so, traps are out🤙
What are careits?
I did this and caught squirrels every day. 🤦
whens the baby due?
We went baitless for woodchucks in our Animal Damage Control business some 15 years ago and never looked back. Most years we probably do 50-60 chucks, while our best year was 142, no bait. We use a Comstock, powered double door trap with wire triggers placed at the den site with a nose cone to direct the chuck into the trap, coming or going. In 30 years plus years we have found nothing more effective than blind sets for chucks. All they have to do is move. We are always happy to share are system with anyone. No one who has ever tried this method has ever gone back to whatever it was they were doing.
Best bait is NO bait. Double door Comstock Cage with nose cone set at the den is the fastest and most effective way to trap groundhogs.
12 gauge works well too!
Nothing like dumping your problems on someone else.
It's also illegal to relocate. They don't stay in a field in the real world. They move to yards where they have better visibility and avoid preditors. They dig under cement floors causing thousands in damage to foundations, pools, sheds and as you see here. They may look cute but cause a lot of damage. I have a farm and know they don't stay in the field. Snare, canibear, live trap, shoot but get rid of them. Permanently.
great video. thanks for your service.
Party time excellent……. Lol 😂
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing Daisy.
Loved this debs xx
Thanks!
Opossums like carrots also. The groundhog I was trying to catch using apples and peanut butter the damn thing put its front paws on the trap door and sprung it these things are aggravating
When they start bringing their own stick to prop door 🚪 up I’m screwed…🦫
After I caught a few hundred chucks I still didn't have a handle on how to do it effectively and efficiently. Sure I caught them, but it took too much time. Over a few years it finally came together. Now after a thousand I would guess I got rid of the bait and went to a maintenance free double door cage trap placed at den sites. You can sometimes catch them in minutes.
can you eat them on the BBQ ?
Ewww tf
ado you eat them and use the fur skins ?? we eat kangaroos ,Emu's and many other wild animals
Hell no, maybe the rednecks down south in the USA do. I live trap these when they arrive in my yard. And honestly, I’ve tried all the fruits and vegetables and green apples from a tree in the neighborhood or store boughten is the best here in Wisconsin.
I’m wondering, does it vary by what area of the country you’re in? For instance, I don’t think there’s much cantaloupe growing near where I am.
Will skunks go for those same foods ??? 😢
Yes, don't use bait.
Mine dug under the trap and ate the food from the bottom, next tried putting the cage on wood, it eats the bread crumbs of goodie’s I have to lure it into the trap. Somehow sets it off from the outside. Been at it for 2 weeks, trying different bait, camouflage, better setup, etc. still can’t get him. When I do finally get that little bastard I’m drowning him in the cage in a big garbage can. He’s ruined my beautiful garden. Glad my moms garden is doing great this year so I can get some vegetables to still can…
😂😂😂😂
Some groundhogs are apparently smarter than others. I had one who wouldn't take the bait for several weeks. Here's what I did: th-cam.com/video/TzRmKGooodw/w-d-xo.html
Nice drown the *ucker
Don't be cruel. Love in harmony with nature. If you kill it, you should at least eat him.. They're good barbecue
@@kennyhill2678 don’t worry we destroyed his home and he moved away. No groundhogs were harmed. ❤️
We use green apples off our apple tree or carrots. We've caught two within an hour and a half of setting the trap using one or the other. They definitely like munching on those carrots! 😍🤓
what you did as illegal.
Where's the ubiquitous "burr" found in all the other axe sharpening videos?
When I catch that Lil Muthafucka, it is going to be The Sequel to “ Pulp Fiction “. I am going to go “ MEDIEVAL “ ON THAT GROUNDHOG!
Nearby Field?
Nope, they'll be back in a heartbeat. We release ours 12 miles away in a county park.
@@doninmichigan I am just repeating what you said🤣.
Super clip! Thanks.
Wife doesn't want me to shoot them, so I tie a rope to the live trap and toss it in the deep part of the creek
relocating a pest onto someone else's property is illegal. you have to live with them or kill them according to the law.
I have caught plenty of groundhogs in a havahart 1045 and use only cantaloupe.
You just gave someone else a groundhog problem.
Thank you - got 3 using your method - I used Plum on cage for attracting my critters
Nice work!
Young ones love a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cantaloupe, and apples. Got rid of 3 so far. One to go, but it won't go in the trap. I'll try carrots, thanks!
Cantaloupe usually works in just a few hours. The only thing I catch if I leave my traps open at night are possums or skunks.
😢
Carrots are the best bait, after 4 days of trying.
Apples are the best here in Wisconsin.
Do you realize when you locate these into some “field” as you have commented, you are taking profits away from that farmer or creating a mess for another human. Kill it.
That looks like a young one.
You said this heats your whole floor, how big is the sq ft on your floor?
1000 square feet
I been successful with apples 🍎
Anyone who releases a groundhog alive is merely spreading the problem - and for someone else as a property owner. They are invasive, destructive and absolutely useless except for feeding buzzards.
So, what do you do with a groundhog after you catch it? Let it go on someone else's land? I doubt that's even legal. Nobody wants them. We have 2 acres of land that are totally overrun by groundhogs and I want to get rid of them, but I don't know what to do with them. I'd rather not kill them, what should I do?
Get a dog 😉
@@n3y3g04 we have a pitbull, but she is not much of a hunter. She likes to dig and stick her face in their tunnels, but that's about it.
@@n3y3g04 I wouldn't even really want a dog that hunts animals. They're not discriminate. I like to let my dog run around and not worry about it killing everything it finds.
You should probably just kill them because if you relocate them your going to drive a long way every time you catch 1
5 miles away at least.
I do the same with larger files. But I would recommend that the filling hand to be covered with a glove, because you’re moving it towards the edge. While filling the eyes are focused mostly on the blade, forgetting to protect the fingers.
Good memories!
