Susquehanna River Adventure
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ก.ย. 2020
My friends and me have started an epic journey to explore the mighty Susquehanna River. Subscribe and stay tuned!
Our goal is to paddle the entire 444 miles of the Susquehanna River. It's going to take us multiple trips to do it, but we will do it!
Though and however, .... we're complete amateurs and really have no idea what we're doing. Follow along and be just as surprised as we are when discoveries are made and the unexpected happens. We're all about having fun and enjoying life.
The adventure is about exploring, enjoying, and documenting all things Susquehanna River; to explore and document every nook and cranny, creek and lagoon, island and oddity there is. And that will take a lot of time. It will be an all-encompassing docuseries of sorts.
You can expect: Fishing, Magnet Fishing, Metal Detecting, Aerial and underwater video, Kayaking and Camping, plus the unexpected.
If you see us out and about and want to join in on the adventure, feel free to do so!

"River of the Year" Susquehanna Sojourn: Berwick to Bloomsburg The sojourn was put together and led by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership as part of the River of the Year celebration. There were approximately 100 paddlers if I recall correctly. The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership did an excellent job with this sojourn and can't wait for an opportunity to do another one with them.

Fabridam Fly Over and Around - Fantastic Video!!!
มุมมอง 7792 ปีที่แล้ว
The Fabridam is located between Shamokin Dam and Sunbury, PA on the Susquehanna River. It took me a more than a year of trying to get this video. This area of the Susquehanna River is full of flying creatures that make flying a drone a risky endeavor. There's a bald eagle just north of this location and bald eagles are known for attacking drones. Then there always seemed to be a flock of seagul...

A quick look at the West Branch of the Susquehanna River at Watsontown, PA on July 9, 2022. Water levels were very low and I wanted to get out there and see how things were looking. Surprisingly, there were boats out on the water running prop motors. They no doubt were limited as to where they were able to go.

Is this an up and back paddle? It looks really nice.
Apologies for not responding sooner. I didn't get a notification about your comment. But yes, it's an up and back paddle. Very nice area for a relaxing paddle. This section of river is more like a lake than a river because it's sandwiched between two dams. The side closest to the Muddy Run Access/Boat Ramp (aka: River Right) has very calm water and very little wind. The other side however tends to be very windy and can be a challenge to paddle against. It's a good area to paddle, especially for those either new to kayaking or just weary about getting on the water in general. If you can get there in the fall when the leaves are changing, it's a beautiful sight to behold.
I used to fish the Susquehanna River around Harrisburg while staying on High Island across from The Three Mile Island I loved it in the "80's"! Caught biggest Small Mouth Bass ever! Or should I say hooked! I almost had her at the boat! And she blasted away into the current turning sideways parallel to the river like a sail to put pressure on the lure stuck to her jaw, the next I knew she exploded one more time into the current and the next thing I knew? I was wearing a G-finished white ghost in a crawfish pattern Big O in my face! It was a beautiful fish on a overcast morning fishing a gravel weed bed on the Susquehanna River! And nice people in the area, had lunch at The Blue Room Bar my bubby's Grandmother owned! Back then it was mostly pontoon boats lined up on the sand bars partying! A few fishermen on the River!
Sounds like a good time and great memory. I haven't made it to that section of the river yet, but it's on my list. And when you said you stayed on one of the islands, did you mean you were camping on it? When I do paddle through down that way, that's what I'll be doing.
Nice filming and editing. New sub.
Thank you and thank you for subscribing. i truly appreciate it!
Locktite on the threads?
Absolutely. Loctite is a must if you don't want to lose the magnet. I haven't gone magnet fishing in a while. I need to get back out there again.
How Cool. Thanks for posting.
Where you on Monocanock Island?
It's possible. We were definitely in that area, but I can't remember for sure. I can tell you that he kept pulling out catfish one right after another.
Good you have this ,because the other side or Shamokin dam sides appearance will be changed forever with the Fish Ladder .Now you can take still shot from your video and post them as photos
Good news! The breached and dangerous dam should be completely gone by mid-summer!
Fishing was so great there before the dam breeched, still good fishing now but not like it used to, been fishing there since I was 10 years old and now 43 and still fish there every weekend. Great video.
Thanks. And I'm not sure how it may affect fishing in the area, but I have it on good authority that the dam will be completely removed by mid-summer, if not sooner. If you're in that area, I'd love to see pictures of the progress if you're able to get any of it.
Nice one. Thanks for taking the time and effort to post.
Cool.
Ah, how nice to see blue sky's, green trees and the flowing river. Thanks for posting.
Pretty Cool, Pretty Cool.
Looks like a lot of fun and since i am retired, wish i could join your adventure. Here in coal township, i can't access the river.
Having watched both parts of Exploring the Bear Islands, the memories came flooding back. In the early 1980's I had done a lot of canoe camping on the lower Bear Island with some friends and my children. We thoroughly enjoyed these weekends. We towed our gear on a tractor innertubes towed behind the canoes. There were other times I canoed there alone with my black lab and fished around the islands. I always had plenty of action, catch and release. One day I docked on an outcrop of boulders just upstream from the east side of lower Bear. On the top of the highest bolder was a dish shaped depression. Curiously, I reached into the debris filled water in the dish and fest something. I pulled out an elongated worn and smoothed stone. Upon rinsing it off I was able to identify the artifact as a pestle the Indians used for grinding nuts and grain. The boulder with the mortar depression is the size of a car, so it had to be left there. On another canoe fishing trip with my dog, I drifted to the downstream end of the island. The water was crystal clear, and I could see the bottom of the river about 12 to 15 foot depth. Here I observed a series of what appeared to be stone encircled fire pits in a long arc. Then another arc of fire pits parallel to the first. A few months later, I took my children to the museum in Harrisburg. In the area dedicated to local American Indians there was a life size replication of a village. Studying this and reading the informational signs, I learned these were not fire pits, but garbage pits. The Indians would dig a modest size pit for their garbage and encircle them with stones. In use they were covered with large pieces of tree bark. When full, a new pit was dug, using the earth to cover the old pit and the stones placed around the new pit. That really explained what I had observed as the pits were dug behind the Indian's living structures. Very interesting to have located an Indian settlement. On yet another similar trip, I observed what appeared to be a cave high in the outcrops on the upstream end of the lower island. Being very curious, I climbed up the cliff to the cave. It was very dark inside and appeared to drop off right inside. I did not have a flashlight. What I did do was cast some pebbles to try to hear hits in the far side and to the left and right. The only outcome was the pebbles splashing water some distance down. Being alone, I did not press the exploration any further. Due to changes in my life that developed, I have not been back to the islands since.
This is relaxing music.
Nice video!
Thank you
Looks so peaceful!
Thanks for the very helpfull info we are going there this week with our canoe.
Thank you. Enjoy your trip. I'm not sure if you'll be doing any fishing, but the fish were in abundance in that area when we made the video.
Is this anywhere near Canal Park? Near intersection of Rt. 29 & Rt. 11
It is. It's actually directly behind the Canal Park. That section of the river is known as the Nanticoke Riffles.
@@susquehannariveradventure2877 Thanks for the reply. I thought that was where it was. I fished from shore and waded around there last fall, fishing was good.
You need a bigger magnet. I'm from Berwick. There's got to be a lot from all the floods. I'm practicing in a creek behind my house.
Nice video, what brand of Drone did you use?
Thanks. I used a DJI Mavic 2 pro.
LOL! I wasn't expecting it so quick and it scared the sh*t out of me, too. :D Too bad he didn't land in your lap, that would've been a nice dinner.
Yep. West Nanticoke rapids! We did this in 2003 but the water was much higher. Bank to bank. Longest set of class 2 we ever did. You did a good job. Remember ALWAYS keep the boat pointed downstream and paddle paddle PADDLE!
Class 1s are now major rapids. Nice.
What rapids?😂
🤣😂🤣
Oh man that could have been a capsize problem real quick. Glad you could paddle out of it. Thanks for sharing! 👍
What the hell is a Bloomfield guage?
Okay I get it I watched the rest of the video, it should be a Busch light gauge. As in through something like that I would only take one Busch light
Oh man, why did you have to go and ruin such awesome footage, by adding annoying music to it ... would be so much better if we could hear & listen to, the actual sound effects from the filming of this scenic scenery "nature"
Thank You for doing this, I use your videos & others to scout out what sections of the river look like before I go & paddle down them.
If you're looking at running Nescopeck Falls between now and some good, heavy, rain you'll need to be extra careful. Rumor has it that area can be dangerous when the gauge in Bloomsburg is registering 2.5 feet or less. According to the National Weather Service, they're predicting it will drop to 2.5 by Thursday evening. Without any significant rain in the forecast, I'd expect it to go even lower. In addition to the videos we're making, we also created a website. The following link will take you to the section of our site that list all of the gauges on the Susquehanna River from beginning to end. www.susquehannariveradventure.com/river-gauge-links
where did u get music ?
TH-cam has a limited library of music that can be used for free.
Thanks for posting this. I look for Her every time I drive to/through Harrisburg. Nice drone work.
Why is the shoulder pink?
Someone colored the entire front sash in pink for breast cancer awareness I believe. If you search for pictures of the replica, you'll see what it looked like before it started to wash away.
The water was reasonably clear.
Thank you for sharing...might want to check the spelling "Fabri Dam." But neat to see the comparisons!
Thank you for pointing out the spelling error. It is in fact spelled Fabridam.
@@susquehannariveradventure2877 My husband is a science teacher and we're from Sunbury so he might show these in his classes!
It is Spelled fabridam ,word comes from fabric !
Thank you for pointing out the spelling error. It is in fact spelled Fabridam.
I spent a lot of my young teen days there , My friends and I fished it,Walked on the bags ,Rode innertube over them bags when they was deflated ,I used to know every nick and cranny just below that dam
That's awesome. I wasn't aware of the dam. It wasn't until I started researching the river in preparation of paddling the entire 444 mile length of it.
Was this before the flooding??
Yeah. About 1 week before.
Wow I dont believe I have ever seen the river that low in all my years 😳 its scary
