Flying a Fighter Jet - 06.2021
That time they let me fly a fighter jet.......
this is video from my flight in an L39 Albatross. It was a East German Fighter made by Aero Vodochody in the Czech Republic. A few militaries around the world are still using them in Combat. They are mainly used as Russian MIG29 trainers now.
This was an experience like no other. Nothing on the ground can come close to the feeling, speed and ADRENALINE
If you ever get the chance.......DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

Rimrocker trail - Aug 2020. Toyota Tacoma Solo Overlanding
มุมมอง 3.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
2 day Overland trip on the Rimrocker Trail from Montrose. The trail runs from Montrose to Moab. I HIGHLY recommend this trail, definitely one of my favorites!!! I didnt do the very last section due to time lost when I had brake failure and was waiting on repairs. This is close to a traditional overland route and supplies are very limited on it, so be prepared.
Stony Pass, Colorado part of the Alpine Loop
มุมมอง 2.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
From Creede, CO to Stony pass, a very rough appropriately named pass in Colorado, this was part of my year of the Covid overland trip. I wasnt able to film as well as normal due to having to concentrate on driving in this one.

Overland trip to the North Carolina Outer Banks, Saharan Dust storm made for some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. (aerial footage shot by permit only) Cape Lookout is a beautiful and remote barrier island that offers a unique camping experience. The island is accessible only by ferry or private boat, and there are no roads or paved parking lots. This makes it an ideal location for overlanders w...

Beautiful!! What time of year did you go and when do you recommend is the best time?
I went in June. May through August is the best time, just be prepared, it gets windy there, if you watch the forecast you can sometimes get a lower wind timeframe.
@@bailhonda thx. I’d be driving from Canada so I’d have to book this trip well in advance and just take what I get I think…
Getting to Colorado from the southeast on I-40 through OK and the TX panhandle is about as boring as KS. Curious about your altitude issues; never had problems with my '08 FJC at high elevations in CO. As a backyard astronomer myself, those were some amazing views of the night sky at the end. Thanks for the vicarious ride.
I have been out 40 many times and agree its boring as well. The issue was I had filled up with 91 octane and the computer couldnt compensate that much when I hit altitude. I simply unhooked the battery and allowed the ECU to reset. Havent had an issue since. Definitely gorgeous night sky out there. Getting ready to do another trip now so hopefully will update a new video.
Good looking, well equipped Tundra! Thanks for taking me back to a Colorado backcountry area I first visited in 2006. I really enjoyed the drone perspective. I well remember that slow crawl in the Timber Hill section of the road in a rental jeep; the headwaters area valley was breathtaking for a flatlander from the southeast. Returned in 2008 in my new FJC for volunteer work with the Colorado Trail Foundation and one day got caught in a (pea size) hail storm north of Stony Pass. Headed back to that area in early September '23 in my FJC.
Absolutely like how your commentary on screen to read describing your journey, road conditions and your insights. Other videos just show driving. If I ever make out west I will rewatch this video. Thank you.
Nice
Amazing! What month of the year was this taken? I am planning a trip there...thanks!
Early June
Very nice video! We d did Stony Pass from Silverton this past July (22). Got to the top and my alternator went out. (What fun) Went on to Kite Lake on battery and then back to Silverton where we swapped batteries, then to Ouray on battery while someone went up to Durango to get an alternator from the Toyota dealership there. It is so beautiful up there! The six miles from from Stony Pass to Kite Lake was really rough but I am glad we did it.
What air down pressure guage was that?
So if u need to take a dump where would you go, genuinely curious because im planing on beach camping.
The ocean, bucket, hole in the ground, bag, portable toilet, diaper, public restrooms.
GREAT videography and photography
One of the better videos on RR Trail. Nice job
It is so beautiful there , just was there yesterday, truly beautiful
Very well done, love your rig and set-up. I do have a question for you, I have a Taco Pro and pull an off-road camper trailer. So far in all the reviews and video's I have not seen anywhere that I would have any issues in making the whole trail pulling my camper. The camper is made for off-road, same size tires as on my Taco, independent suspension with air bags (no axle) full articulating hitch. Not worried about the technical aspects more concerned about any severe switch-backs that I have not seen.
You shouldnt have any issue, I passed the Trail recon guys pulling a trailer and the did the whole trail. there are a few switchbacks but nothing major. Keep in mind its all 2 way, but I encountered nothing that couldnt be done with a proper setup like you have. Watch for flash floods, there are some areas that become a raging river literally in minutes.
@@bailhonda I live in Colorado and am very aware of the unsuspecting flash floods we get, thank you for the heads up. We were going to run the Rocker last November but a severe snow storm stopped that from taking place. Planning on running it this summer, assuming we get enough precept this spring to keep the fires away. I ran Montrose to Moab 20 years ago in my old 4-Runner but it wasn't the RimRocker back then and I am sure I didn't run the route it is now. Thank you again for the response and really like your video productions.
We did an East Coast trip couple of years ago. Last year was our Mid-West overland trip. Thinkin' about doing the East Coast up and down again. Thanks for the vid, helping us plan out some serious spots :-P Keep on Keepin' On!
Awesome!
Wow!! sure was green when you went. What month was that? When I did that it wasn't as green but it's a beautiful, awesome trail.
August, was lucky it was so green
Awesome video. What part of east Tn you from I’m in Johnson city. I so want to take my family here was it hard getting everything lined up? How much does cost? How much was the ferry ride?
Do u have the GPS cord on the camp spot at mile marker
That’s what I was looking for too.
That's home!🧡 I live in Greeneville and grew up on Bald Mtn, which is the actual name of that Mtn. The road was renamed Viking Mtn Rd after Viking Ski Lodge was built on top. It didn't pan out mainly because we stopped getting enough snowfall starting in the mid 70's. It changed hands several times and was even owned by Elvis Presley for a time. TWRA finally was able to purchase the land and cleaned everything up and removed the lodge, although some of the decking around the pool can still be found. It's a beautiful area. I enjoyed the drone footage.👍🏻
Just watched but nice video and great looking rig!
Nice video! We want to do this someday soon. I’m looking to get a rack and tent on my supercab F150. Seeing that sunset and sunrise must have been incredible. Thanks for sharing
nice video, I have this on my list for 2022
Nice video, that rough part of the trail at 1:31 is actually called Timber Hill. It will break your stuff if your going to fast. In 2019 Pole Creek is where a lady died when they tried to go across a flooded pole creek . Beautiful country, Missed out in 2021 were going for sure in 2022. Thanx 2 you tube and videos i can watch and wait until its our turn. " Thanx Fer Sharin"
wow!!
Cape Lookout lighthouse. Been there.
What a great video!!!!! Ive made the trip up to Stoney twice and am headed up there next week from the Creede side, which will be the first week of August 2021. Im addicted to that beautiful country!! Thanks for posting this!!
Have you been to the ma and pa's
Also, what part of the island is that where you have water on both sides where you took that pic? It possible to camp there?
This is cape lookout, June of 2020 was trip date. The southern Portion has water both sides be aware of the tide line camping there. Portsmouth Island is also a good choice both places usually you don't have anyone within a half mile or more to you. Plenty of room to be away from people
@@bailhonda How are the conditions in PI? I'm hearing the wind is a lot worst there as well as the bugs. This would be my first time doing any beach camping and anything like this sort of trip
@@ThePassportPapi Both are worse on PI, Wind is there on both, there are some fairly good dunes on lookout that provide some shelter
When did you go? June 2020 I assume? I'm planning on going in a week and I can't decide between Portsmouth and cape lookout.. I want sort of a secluded experience
Did that trail last week😍
How rocky is it the first few miles past Lost Trail Campground? Was looking into some dispersed camping up there in a Rav 4...
@@kevinmatluk8624 If you are coming from Silverton side, pretty rough before you get to Lost Trail.
@@grn9209 Sorry, should have stated coming from The reservoir side, Seems like it gets pretty rocky right after the campground? Was only looking to go a mile or so past to find some camping spots
Great Video! I subscribed. When you took the Ferry there in Davis NC. Were you able to pretty well go and overland wherever? I see below you mentioned there is about 20 miles of area. Did you have to reserve or pay anything in advance to camp there? Are there any restrictions of limit of time camping there in days?
It's fair game just stay on trails and off the dunes once you're on the island. Part of the ferry charges go towards the park fees. All paid once you pay for the ferry
@@bailhonda Thank you very much for the information. I look forward to more of your videos!
I love a beach with nearly no humans,lol !
Very good video!
Love it!
How long will it take to do this trail?
2 days would be the minimum, you can do sections of about a days length as well
That was a really good video. Now I wanna overland vs just glamping.
I would love to take my wife there
Where were you able to camp on the actual beach? I’ve looked into campgrounds but havnt found anything where you can actual camp on the beach.
theres 20 miles of beach here to camp on, you have to take a ferry, and its 4x4 recommended.
@@bailhonda I live in Wilmington. In the winter months you can camp on fort fisher here by Wilmington. The outer banks has several places you can camp including the Portsmouth island in this video and the south core island. Both are very remote and have to take a ferry to get to them. Great experience for both though.
Awesome video. Thinking about making this trip in May! What Ferry Service did you use and what is the name of the exact island. Got a little confused based on this website. www.outerbanks.com/cedar-island-ferry.html
Cape lookout, and we used Cape lookout Ferry Service, Great folks!!
@@bailhonda did you stay on the South Core Banks or the North Core Banks?
Hey Armadillo I finally reserved my Ferry Service for June. Quick question did you have to change camp locations every night?
@@pboverlanderz1926 no you dont unless you wanted to, enjoy the trip, you will love it!!
@@bailhonda Thanks again for all your help! Super excited. My wife and I are actually re-watching your video LOL.
I love your videos, I hope you're around the smoky mountains around this season, keep that awesome job 👏
Thanks!!! I am working on putting together some footage with the fall colors from all around that area and will have a video out soon!!! Thanks again and glad you are enjoying them!!!!
We have Jeeped up from Silverton a few times. It's one of my favorites. As you head down to Silverton there is a trail to your right that goes to an old mine building. This trail also takes you to the Old Hundred mine hiking trail. We hiked it and it is a very narrow trail in places. The pay off is a birds eye view of the Old Hundred boarding house. If you are not familiar with it Google it. It is so amazing that they built it perched on the side of the mountain at 12,000+ feet.
Thanks for the info, I will definitely check it out next go around, sounds amazing!!!!!
Great video and pictures....an epic place.
Thank you, great adventure for sure!!!!
Great video, we are trying to get down there but this covid is making it difficult. We have never been on the beach with the Tacoma, can you give us some info on where to start as far as access to the beach?
Cape lookout Cabins and Camps run this ferry service, there is one more, but not familiar with it. once you get off the ferry you check in and get a sticker and then just follow the roads till you hit beach. Air down to about 20psi and 4 high 2nd gear worked perfect...you will only get 6 or 7 mpg as the sand is fairly deep. You need to reserve the ferry in advance, theres water on the island and rumored you can get fuel there. supplies can be brought over on the ferry, I saw them bringing some groceries to some of the campers. The only stops we made were for fuel. we wear masks anytime we have to be near others and just be cautious. definitely a trip you need to do.
Gorgeous view and love the music selection
Beautiful trail!
love it.
