South Fremantle Forevermore - Episode 11 - John Colgan
I am the grand son of him he was my pop he died at the age of 99 6 months off being 100
Would’ve been a star at port Adelaide too
I have been a lifelong bulldogs supporter and remember Mal being spat on by members when he played for East Perth; but now a South’s legend
Stephen Michael you are a champion
Best I've ever seen
Should've Coached Freo from Day 1, !!!
He had the opposite coaching philosophy to the great Mal Brown. (cryptic)
vale what a great player a total pleasure to watch how his kicking improved when he came back from SA
LEGEND nuff said
What a beautifully authentic and humble human…I salute you 💙
RWNJ, typical privileged private school boy.
Thug...nothing less!
May well have been a thug, however he was also a gifted player. won the 1969 Sandover Medal playing for the greatest WA team the Mighty Royals. 🙂I am slightly biased though hahahaha.
What is the back ground music
Quality man! Great footballer.
Great interview.
Legend !
Very lucky to have the Browns in our game.
Brownie...just brilliant !😀
A great player and great bloke
RIP Ernie 6th January 2023
Those were the days.
He looked so healthy during this. RIP
Legends of our great game are never forgotten. Good men are always acknowledged and respected. You Stephen , set a positive pathway for many other Brothers to follow. I'm sure today Graham Moss , and also Ron Boucher and more, has ya boots stud marks still imprinted on their shoulders. Thanks Brother.
He's the best.
I'm a West Pert supporter but Stephen Michael was about the best player I ever saw.
Been a history of shorter but more skillful indigenous ruck men. Stephen , of course Polly all the way back to the mercurial game changing David Kantilla. Stephen was loaded with speed a great leap and ridiculous hand eye skills. TOP SHELF !😎👍
Stephen was magnificent.
his Heart will always be black and blue . he loves the Royals
Nice words, Toby. You're a credit to the Club.
RIP Tony. What a bloody champ!
Go South
You are right Tony, WAFL was a day out, as a kid I used to leave early in the morning and come home at dusk exhausted.
Great Victorian
Love My Bulldogs. Katanning, what is in the water down that way. Fantastic career, Toby. Well Done!
Wow - what an absolute legend. And that he chose to stay in the WAFL speaks realms about the character of the man and indeed the standard of our great league back then.
It was reported that he was coming to Geelong just about every season from 76-82. We were disappointed he didn't but having just watched the vid where he played his 200th.....he was interviewed with a young family and perhaps the fact that there were very few Aboriginals in Victoria compared to WA helped form that decision. Looked like he was an absolutely brilliant ppayer....some guy who'd have seen Polly says Michael was better.
Turkey Tom you beauty ! Was a pleasure to watch back in the day.
The greatest player ive ever seen
This what the wafl was all about remember wen I saw this man play for south a real legend and real nice bloke I know I use to work with him
I've met Stephen a few times in recent years, He is one hell of a nice person. A legend in footy and in life :)
Well done Tom.
Absolute Legend, thanks for the memories mate!
Played in the Bush for 10 years myself Saw this bloke play at Subiaco one time
The best player I saw ; equal with Michael Voss that I have seen live
Lovely portrait. And his mention of Fred Senior, who I idolised when I was a kid, was very moving and generous of this absolute champion
Fucken miss the raging bull
The wonderful close-ups and the nostalgia generated by the music ensure these productions are of a quality rarely encountered. Thanks for bringing priceless memories of boyhood years flooding back. (Ron Shaw, Hamilton Hill)
Used to watch big Tom from under the Moreton Bay fig tree near the RHF flank (Freo end). Loved and respected by every one of our supporters. Never heard a bad word said about Tom, even from the opposition. Only ever had eyes for the ball. One of the best and safest marks we've had at Souths.
No wonder Melbourne haven't won a flag since the 60s if they treat their champions like that.
Always enjoyed watching this great man play for the Bulldogs. He, along with Maurice Rioli, and many others in that era drew the crowds into Fremantle Oval. Great stuff !
Nice interview. Only saw a bit of Tony but he was a star. Would have achieved even more on the footy field if it weren't for his uni studies. Very clever bloke, Tony, and very humble with it.
brilliant
