Winter 2016 - Can the Nikon D90 still make it in 2024 ?
Winter finally took off, but still slow on the wildlife search.
I decided to revisit some footage from 2016, using DaVinci Resolve Superscale option, and there it is, my first step with a DSLR with video.
Hope you enjoy!

Beautiful work! I'm a snow goose afficionado. My husband and I spend a lot of time with the flocks along the Eastern Flyway of the US during the winter and early spring. You have captured their unique beauty and spirit.
Thank you for the good words! Every year as far as I can remember I loved to watch them gather together in the South of Quebec. Great spectacle year after year!
nobody need this comparsion
Thanks for the input, can't wait for part 2 🤣
Your 4K Video is enogh for 9 II
Absolutely, the G9 II with the right lens is a beast!
What filter did you use?
Some budget filter on AliExpress: ZB2 BG3 Violet Blue optical glass. Not as good as real IR Chrome I suppose but I'm not full time shooting IR, so it did the job!
Impressionant!!! J'ai mi à max résolution sur mon projo. c'est génial!!!🤩
Merci mon chum! Je redoutais que la compression de youtube soit trop rough haha
I use the same system. That combination G9ii and lumix 100-400 ii is awesome, although it doesn't work that well in dark low light situations like Arctic north where I am....awesome bird scenes by the way!
Thanks! I'm looking to get the 100-400 II too ! And nop the G9 II in the dark is not the best but at least it performs well in the cold!
Very nice!
Thanks! Much appreciated
Fantastic! Nice bird videos.
its funny i like the images from the Lumix G9 way more!!!❤
Beautiful!
Looks amazing!
Nice! Question: What do you mean by 2x? A teleconverter? For 4/3 cameras?
I think so, but I wonder if it is a Panasonic teleconverte or Olympus, and if there are any differences between the two in terms of image quality
@@irajart Actually, my point is that I don't know any 2x teleconverter in 4/3 (as far as I understood there is some optical issue): I only know of an Olympus one which was compatible with some few lenses only. And now, I am very curious, as the result here is very good.
Yes I used the Panasonic DMW-TC20 2.0x Tele-Converter, work like a charm with the 200mm 2.8, gives you a 800mm equivalent.
@@birdnerdqc4028 Oh great! I just thought that those ones were for the serie S lenses (full frame) and not for serie G (4/3). Thanks!
@@Ionoallen The Panasonic DMW-TC20 is for m43, the Panasonic DMW-STC20 is for L mount, got to make sur to buy the right one.

Very nice 👌
Thanks!
Hello, what teleconverter did you use. Because you showed us the PIxel / pixel with a crop of 1.6 in an old vidéo Here, the image is a little too soft it seems to me. Thank you
Sorry for the late reply: LUMIX 2X Lens Teleconverter - DMW-TC20
Beautifull. One of the reasons I want the G9 II is to shoot with an anamorphic lens.
Lumix camera with the desqueeze are pretty cool, so easy to compose directly in the EVF with the final result, and Sirui lens are pretty cheap in m43!
Hello! I would like to ask if this g9ii is good for sports photography? How fast is the AI SERVO? Is it worth replacing the Canon 7d mark ii?? Thanks for your reply!!
Hi ! I can't speak for sports or human, I mainly shoots bird and wildlife. For these it work well, not perfect with bird in flight. For video except in 4k120 and HD 240p (Subject detection turn off in these video mode) there is no problem. But coming from and R10 and R8 before the G9 II, I would probably recommand a Canon mirrorless if you don't need 4k120 and raw video, the R7 is a well balance camera and your current lens would adapt perfectly. But other than that G9 II is my favorite camera since my D7100 and I tried Sony, Canon and Nikon mirrorless in the last 5 years.
It's so funny that these are actually comparable setups in many ways. I came from the G9 and I already had the 200mm f2.8 and a couple other primes... I did consider getting one of the new PF primes for Nikon or L-Mount, but anything that's comparable in weight, size and performance is at least twice the price. The 200mmf2.8 is an incredible value. I see it below €1000 regularly. I anticipated buyers remorse over the G9II since I paid MSRP (stupid) but the sensor is incredible. I'm doing so much less editing. It's a great looking sensor for both photo and video.
Yes the G9 II rocks the micro four third world, I do appreciate his body size too coming from Nikon ( and briefly FF Canon) The PF 300mm is a great lens too, lighter than a 24-70, it give me great result on D7100 and Z50.
I can tell the amount of detail, G9ii for several things had nothing to envy getting other bigger sensors, yes it can't compete resolution wise, but that's not the point
I switched from Canon FF to the G9 II to get the 4k120 in a budget friendly body. With the right lens the G9 II sensor is great. I just needed to do a showdown to convince myself I didn't need the GFX 😅
@@birdnerdqc4028 I agree with your comment about the importance of the lens. It is a key differentiator and can negate the potential benefits of FF / MF. I really like the images from the 200mm f2.8.
@@Democratiser This lens is so small and so good, and compete with some big FF fix lens, I had the EF 500mm f4 before switching to Lumix and have no regrets, so easy to carry and really sharp even wide open!
@@birdnerdqc4028 I have an EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS for my 5DIII but I haven’t tried on my G9. I should do that!
That Leica 200 is amazing and is definitely contributing a lot to this comparison.
@@ahdnoh That is my conclusion too, there is so many good glass in mft mount that make Lumix and OM System look good!
Can you try the 100MP high resolution mode on the G9ii? I know it'll be very difficult to do it handheld on a 400mm lens, so maybe use a tripod. I'm very interested to see how it compares. The GFX should still be better as the much smaller image circle on the MFT lens would struggle to resolve that much detail, but I'm interested to see how close it gets.
@@Wildridefilms The few attempts I did with this lens were bad, I suppose this tech is more for wide lens than tele!
I got mixed results hand held even at 25mm. In tripod mode it works very well, and already did on the original G9, but I only played around with it. For the occasional landscape shot it might be an interesting feature.
@@birdnerdqc4028Difficult to get the bees to stay still too! 😂
@@birdnerdqc4028 Need 100MP comparison between Fuji GFX100 II /Lumix G9 II,too can dear birdnerdqc4028 work on it~~
Fascinating, unique comparison. Thank you for doing this
Having the chance to try a GFX was a blast, I needed to convince myself that my Lumix was enough for my need 😅

Very nice, G9ii is great camera
First time I see someone actually use this for a video. All the other videos only show photos made with this lens. Thank you for making this video!
No problem! This lens is more fun than good, for photo I would not really recommend it, but in a 4k video, she's doing just fine and I love the vibrant red touch it gives to the camera!
I have a Olympus E-M1 Mk III. I didn't know how much I'd enjoy shooting slow motion short clips until I tried, but it only has 1080 @120fps and only with S-AF or MF, and no audio. Pretty sure the G9 II is my next M43 camera. I think it does all of what I'm missing. Thanks for sharing. Loved the clips. I assume it was hand held? What lens did you use?
Yes it was handheld with the Leica 200mm 2.8, with 4k120 in G9 II, you loose bird detection but standard AFC still works!
Nice videos! As a Canon user, I'm looking forward to working with my recently purchased Lumix G9 II. As your new subscriber, I also look forward to seeing your works as well.
Great, I'm considering buying one! Cheers ...your new subscriber😊
You won't be disapointed, pretty good camera!
Great! Was the E-Stab Stab High,Standard or OFF? That also add some CROP. Thanks for the video!
E-Stab was off with monopod.
I cannot open my rw2 files with any standard programm except irfanview. But when I want to save them in irfanview as jpg or tif they start to pixel. Maybe you can help me?
Panasonic recommand SILKYPIX Developer Studio SE, which is free, I used it for a couple of month and Affinity photo 2 updated and supported the files. it goes on sale at around 50$ sometimes, one-payment. Both software has no issue with the raw file. Adobe DNG Converter could also be a solution.
@@birdnerdqc4028 thank you so much! Does affinity photo 2 has also a kind of camera raw?
Never tried camera raw, but it let you open the raw, adjust evrything in a non destructive way , then Develop it to make some adjustement more in a photoshop way. Don't know if I'm clear, but it replaced Lightroom and Photoshop for me. Pretty sur they have a trial.
@@birdnerdqc4028 great! That helped me a lot
DxO Photolab 7 is currently the best application for processing G9 II RAW files. The Deep Prime noise reduction is amazing, too.
Intéressant .
Incredible ❤ Gorgeous!
Is autofocus at 4K 120fps using PDAF or Contrast Detection?
I would assume PDAF because there is no hunting back and forth, but the subject detection goes off, which in this case made it hard to get the bird in focus in full area, but when you go to 1-area-+ mode in does a good job. I must admit the it was a very busy area, and if you have already shot Golden-crowned Kinglet, you know they don't stay in place. In conclusion, can't complain about this "issue" since there is only the a6700 (in the sub 2000$) that can film 4k120 with subject tracking and I prefer the handling of the G9 II. I had an a6400 in the past and the EVF was bof and the camera was way too small.
Amazing footage!!
Thank you! 🙏
Very nice, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for comparison! I want to add 2nd body to my g80/gh5 setup, and wonder between g9ii (perfect af and ibis) and r8 )) Totally different cameras, but what can you tell about this? 😅
I can say both are great, I switch from the R8 to the G9 II to access 4k120, R5 and C70 cost too much. Quality on the R8 is phenomenal for the price of the body, the downsampled 6k to 4k make a great job. Battery is a pain in the ... 😅you need USB-C PD battery if you want more than 30 min of 4k. AF is the best I've used for animal detect and tracking in general. G9 II considering your actual setup would make sens if you own m4/3 lens. Great video, AF tracking is maybe 70-80% of what canon do right now with the R8. Not perfect, but it does the job. If you own EF lenses and don't need the 4k120. R8 is the best for your bucks. G9 II is the more advance video camera for fun!
@@birdnerdqc4028 thanks a lot! 🙌 And what do you say about R8 Electronic Is, could it provide "work" handheld footage with manual lens like Samyang 85 1,4 , Helios 55 1,8, mir 1-v 35 2,8 ? For short run n gun shoot, or viideo esse or something like this because in my workflow i prefer to shoot commerce work full handheld with my g80, except long pan of cars and real estate))
@@justdontstop I have a another video th-cam.com/video/dERbY98y9sk/w-d-xo.html in which I test the the Electronic IS with a 800mm f11 and the 70-200 f4 and it did improve the stabilisation a fair amount, so I suppose that it would be working well with 35 to 85mm, but I have not test it with an all manual lens. except with the 50mm 7artisans th-cam.com/video/2bNiwycfeMg/w-d-xo.html

Thanks!
Did it take the G9II much time to acquire focus on the owl? Did it hunt? Did you need to manually focus? Thanks for sharing.
No need for manual focus, 2 times it loose it because of the tree but got it back fast, I can post the full sequence in normal speed later.
@@birdnerdqc4028 great news. Impressive camera.
What are those blue lines?
Anamorphic flares
@@birdnerdqc4028does it do that with any light?
Yes, when use properly (not directly in front of the highway 😅) the line are more subtle, I'm not able to use it yet in a subtle way, gonna need more practice!
Amazing! Seems like the missing animal detection at 4k 120 isnt such a thing?
You do loose the bird/animal AF, but you still have great autofocus. Coming from DSLR and having started bird photography with a Nikon D50, bird AF is a powerful tool that get you to work on composition without worrying about your focus but ain't a necessity.
Thank you so much for your answer! Struggeling to decide whether to buy an om1 or g9 ii at the moment. Main worry for me is the buffer from g9 ii. I heard that it needs a lot of time to clear up so you could potentially miss action
I did not fully tried the continuous shooting to tried every speed, right now I'm mainly using 14 shot/second and get about 100 shot before it slow down, I assume that if you shoot at 75fps it will overload fast indeed.
@@birdnerdqc4028 For me slowing down is not the problem, I saw in the review of duade paton that the camera needed like 1 minute to clear the buffer and during this time he couldn't take photos. Hopefully this will be fixed!
@@chiara1086 I did some test with a Sony V90 Tough and unlike Duade Paton test I was able to shoot some quick burst, after buffer was filled, did not have to wait a whole minute, look like it's fixed!
