Fun fact this scene repeats in the Mouto Takagi-san manga, when he shows off his grip strength, and ends up frightening their kid, Chi (that he could accidentally crush her head while petting it). So Takagi, now Mrs Nishikata asks him to demonstrate his grip strength on her hand, in the form of a contest, and immediately as he holds her hand, he realizes how soft it is and that it should be caressed, thus proving to Chi that he won't hurt her.
