As someone who is considering getting into AoS and collecting Stormcast, and specifically want to do Anvils of the Heldenhammer ... thanks for this review. It was informative. I will probably get it and read it!

There are no Ogor-centred AoS novels I know of, but there is a an Old World novel: Wild Kingdoms by Robert Earl that is a deep venture into the Ogre Kingdoms. Florin (Bretonnian) & Lorenzo (Tilean) have a big adventure there. The book is narrated on Y T by the Grim Dark Narrator (a Romanian amateur reader with a very kind voice). You can listen for free.

I just got the newest Grombrindal audiobook and hope it's a merry collection of stories. Don't know if he meets any Ogors in there. I was not a fan of the Double Eagle (one of the very rare weaker Dan Abnett books for me) but I will probably still get Interceptor CIty because it's Abnett.

I expected we would get a Lhykhis novel/audiobook alongside this release. Coming back of a Phoenix lord is a Primarch-return level of event for the Craftworlds. But Craftworld Eldar don't get ANY books for years. Last Phoenix Lord book we got was Jain Zar released in 2017 and the last book for Ynnari was in 2018.

What do you think the soul blight terrain will be mate?

I would like GW to give some more continuity instead of Pump and Dump tactic they use very often in AoS. Not so long ago Kragnos was the biggest thing in the Mortal Realms and now he is gone completely. Krethusa the Croneseer popped up for 5 minutes and then everything got covered up by Skaventide. I still hope AoS will focus on Ulgu some time in the future and maybe make some epic stand off between Morathi, Krethusa and Malekith.

8:38 If Maleneth is Malus in Age of Sigmar I feel we lost 2 irreplacable iconic characters (Felix Jaeger, Darkblade) for a single generic D&D Dark Elf Assassin (Maleneth). I'm also sad to see Warhammer Fantasy armies rebooted with decades old models like the High Elves we see now. Old World Undead Fantasy players can buy the new Soulblight Gravelords stuff and use it in WFB (same with Gloomspite Gitz used as Night Goblins etc.) but the Lumineth range is too far removed to be used as High Elves. And I don't think selling old GW models in new boxes will convince people who played Total War to start playing Fantasy. Andy Chambers, one of the main GW staff in the 90s gave an interview for Jordan Sorcery YT channel and said: "I think flushing the entire Warhammer World was an appalling act of desecration, in many regards, waste to a large extent. Absolutely pointless, really. They could have done the entire Age of Sigmar in the Realm of Chaos and just kept both of them".

I just found out that Conquest was a popular game before Warhammer. Conquest was a strategy board game created and published by Donald Benge. First published in 1972 with cardboard pieces, it evolved to plastic pieces and a deluxe set in pewter plated in various metals including gold. Conquest was a non-historical two-player game based on point to point movement and capture. The map featured both land and water. Each player had 20 land pieces - soldiers, elephants, chariots, knights and 6 ship pieces.

Don't buy Dark Coil: Damnation Beard. This is not a new a Fehervari book we are all waiting for. This is just some kind of Anthology that consists of "Fire Caste", "Cult of the Spiral Dawn" and a selection of short stories.

I managed to achieve my hobby goal for 2024 and reduce spendings on GW products to no more than $500 per year. I ended up spending around $350 in 2024. And I hope to spend even less in 2025. By spending less money on models, paints & gaming accessories I appreciate more the ones that I already have.

All the imperial spaceships have weird names often in Latin. You could name your Space Hulk "Gaudium Barbatum" (Beard's Joy in Latin) or ask your German audience to figure out an even weirder name in German.

Btw, the Apothecary types are called Embyr. Iirc they also have a psychoactive cloneskein, so they may actually be medic psykers. As they also tend to the dead, I imagine something between apothecary and spiritseer.

I thing that took me back here, was the high Kâhl being treated as a head of government. What I remember from the codex is Kâhls being military, not political leaders. This would make the High Kâhl something like the highest ranking general (Commander in chief), not head of government. I genuinely thought political decisions were taken by the Hearthspake, possibly without a figurehead. Also isn't the Votannic council described as some sort of emergency body,not part of everyday governance? Imho such a flat hierarchy would fit the kin way better. P.S. for the LotR comparison, Myrten is clearly Aragorn, leader of the group and Ranger chief who has to struggle with the responsibility of becoming her people's leader.

I will definitely be getting Leontus: Lord Solar on audiobook. I'm so happy to see the third out of 4 Fehervari novels finally getting audiobook version too.

Happy new year Beard! After reading the High Kahl's Oath I'm puzzled how grimdark the new Votann lore is. They have no parents or families and everybody is produced by AI ancestor machines like cars in a factory. Thankfully the Votann machine on Necromunda was lost and the Squats there reverted to normal family bonds. Arbitor Ian tells about it in his new video discussing the up and coming Halls of the Ancients Necromunda "codex". This might be one of the best GW books of 2025.

I know in this age of DEI they want to promote strong female leads, but I don't want it being rammed down my throat either, to the exclusion of all else. I wish there were more stubborn "gruff dwarf" male leaders in the story. This can actually lead to more interesting story beats (blindly going forward with a sub-optimal plan, when we the reader scream at them not to) But when all of the main characters are female, it just makes the whole faction seem like an army consisting exclusively of females. Like I say, nothing against strong female portrayal (love the Lara Croft games/movies). It's just not how I perceive Votann life. Now, let the accusations of sexist, racist, bigot, etc. commence!

Hi mate, just finished this one yesterday so looked up your review. I agree that the conclusion of this book was very powerful and I also thought the author turned the Age of Sigmar weirdness dial up to 10 with some of the enemies! I enjoyed the book and I thought it was a very good example of what makes AOS different from other fantasy settings. Thanks for the video.

I had to laugh after watching your video on DOF book 8. I just read that also and agree with a lot of what you said about the sheer amount of threads ongoing in that series. Then they reveal that the last book is going to pivot to the Necrons 😂

Hi mate. Just finished this one today. Overall I agree that the DOF series has been uneven. There have been books I've really enjoyed, others less so and some that have been good but still felt disconnected from the series. I felt this one did a good job of bringing things together and moving the plot on but as you say, a tighter focus to the whole series would have been great. I really hope if we are to see a Scouring series that it's planned out!

GW just don't understand the way of communicating. They never heard of the "sandwhich method". If you have to deliver "bad news" just accompany it with sth good and therefor it is easier to digest. Clear lack of understanding how humans work.

Le problème des podcasts c'est que ça sera en anglais et nous autres qui avons la flemme d'écouter du contenu en langue étrangère ne l'écouterons pas, cette vidéo je l'ai regardé en x4 avec un œil sur la transcription qui défilait. Donc il faut trouver une solution universelle, et il se trouve que si vous numérisez votre livre et que vous demandez à un logiciel pdf de faire une lecture OCR, le pdf aura un texte enrichi, et à partir de ça vous pourrez soit demander à un narrateur de le lire, soit demander à une IA de travailler le texte pour vous faire un podcast. Pour infinity il y'a déjà beaucoup de texte en français en format pdf enrichi sur le forum français, à partir de là vous pouvez déjà demander à une IA de vous sortir des choses dans la langue que vous voulez, le truc est capable de traiter le français et de faire une narration en anglais ou en allemand. Ne pas oublier non plus que CB a sorti sa propre IA et à partir de sa base de données vous pourriez sortir des textes également.

What I really liked about this novel was that it gave a glimpse into what life was like for normal people who weren't fighting against the forces of Chaos, Destruction, and Death 24/7. AOS gets a lot of shit for not really feeling like a living "world" and more like a backdrop for cool armies to fight on, so it was cool to see Sevora's initial struggles of just trying to get by in the world. We have a lot of awesome armies and battles happening in AOS, but I think these glimpses into what life in the Free Cities of Azyr is like are also important, because then we get to know exactly what the Stormcasts are fighting for. Anyways, great review! Skaventide was the first novel I bought from AOS. Do you have any other AOS novel recommendations?

This is the most divisive limited edition book cover I have ever seen. Some people love it and the other half hates it. Personally I like the colors and I think it stands out.

I really enjoyed the book and would say it was my favourite from all these "beginning of edition books" Skaven were great and horryfying, SCE were heroic and depressing and Sevora was gaslighting herself 24/7 that everything is bad before bad things even truly happened But I absolutely adored every interactions withing Ruination chamber, Lord Terminos was absolute unit, Reclusians quickly became my favourites and all these "gothic raven vibe" just hit my heart at the spot And I absolutely loved Deus-Ex Machina in the end (it is usually my fav part in WH books)

To be honest, wargames bore the heck out of me, no matter which one, as they are always the same: you move blocks of models until they are in contact, then you roll dice, turn for turn for turn for turn until one of the blocks is no more. Skirmish games are much more dynamic and action packed. Also, wargames require mostly empty tables. Maybe a hill or some trees or *gasp* one building at some place. With skirmishers you can go NUTS building your table and make wicked use of all three dimensions when playing a skirmisher. Welcome on the fun side of miniature gaming :)

Agree mate. I'm not a video gamer but it's clear it's generated lots of interest in the TT gaming side and the novels based on social media. Hopefully it all leads to more great games, novels etc in the years to come.
