Fascinating diverse marine life revealed by baited underwater videos in Victoria's Discovery Bay.
Parks Victoria and Deakin University have published an integrated monitoring report offering an in-depth analysis of The Discovery Bay Marine National Park.
The study found that deeper reefs housed more diverse species compared to shallower zones or soft sediment areas. For instance, fish like the Blue-Throat Wrasse, Rosy Wrasse, and Snapper were frequently observed in these deeper, protected areas.
Proximity to the reef also played a significant role in fish abundance; for example, Snapper tend to congregate near reef structures that provide shelter and feeding opportunities. Reef structures also act as hubs for nutrient cycling, attracting smaller prey species that form the base of the food web. Additionally, these environments facilitate spawning and nursery grounds for many fish species, further enhancing their ecological importance.

Beautiful video...amazing to hear! 🙌🐠💫
Great to hear more on making ocean science available to the many who wish to learn more and action respecting our oceans and especially seaweeds. Thank you from the east coast of Tasmania ❤
Thanks for watching and taking the time to drop a comment!
Good video good topic a few problems 1) your face cam is not needed in the short, you are not the focus the footage behind you is, your telling me to focus on it yet you are there drawing my attention 2) work on your speech. You keep stumbling and umming. It breaks flow and makes me uninterested
Such a feel good video and what an awesome way to connect people with the ocean! Great work regenerating the seaweed also!! 🌊🤿✨️

I found the bones of the cuttlefish
I'm going to have to sail there one day. Wow. Love it all, that cute little shark and the Weedy Sea Dragon. So much life.
great job guys it is really good to see the before and after shots of the urchin barren and what the area looks like after the kelp has had a chance to come back and flourish
This work goes unnoticed but it’s very important thank you for your hard work
That's cool. Thanks for sharing that info. 🙂👍🏼
Great job
Im really looking forward to visiting here
Beautiful
GSR enthusiast and diver here. Great videos. Ive been telling people lately to think of places other than the GBR to dive. Because NSW, VIC, SA and WA really do have excellent dive sites. Recently ive been diving Edithburgh and Rapid Bay, and they are world class.
Right on!
Beautiful
Nice shots. I dived here in 2023 and it was a good site. Im looking forward to diving it again.
Some absolutely spectacular footage. Definitely not what you'd normally see so close to the surface around Tassie!
Thanks very much! Yes super unique indeed.
Beautiful and fascinating, and great commentary, thanks!
Thanks for checking it out Bill! You'll have to make a trip there one day.
Outstanding : makes me want to visit the cold.
Well worth a visit (and the cold) indeed!

Thanks for watching :D
Thanks for the Awesome video.
So do we know why?
