Hello, some people have had success by by installing washers between the firebox & gear wheel, but I haven’t tried that idea myself. I just put up with the noise it’s just a characteristic of the engine 🙂

Yes the syringe is for clearing the bottom of the chimney of condensate before it gurgles up & makes a mess everywhere ! I need to solder a small piece of 1/8th diameter copper pipe to the chimney elbow to attach a drain hose. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you ! This engine started off as one of the early D409 showman’s engines. I still have to fabricate a longer canopy to accommodate the extra length of the new tender. They do run extremely well once run in & all the motion has loosened up.

@@modelsteam2805 - Mine is certainly a smooth runner! I could never get my canopy lights to work and now I hear the guys in the EU are hooking up thirty LED's, but they won't sell to the US, so I guess I'll have to figure it out myself.

There is no sight glass, only a water level plug used for filling the boiler to the correct level. The original spirit burner, if filled correctly & not overfilled, is designed to run out of fuel before the boiler runs out of water. However, this model has been upgraded to a gas burner, so a watchful eye is needed.

Thanks for your comment. No there isn’t a differential, it’s just a longer solid axle than the stock Wilesco one, to allow the extra thickness of the Mamod wheel hubs.

Very clever, I like it. Much better throttle control. Couldn't see the whistle control, not that I'd miss it.
