    Bristols have great bones, and are well built boats. I would reconsider destroying the original interior. Unless you are. shipwright your woodworking will not match Bristol's. Plus it is just more work. Get the boat sailing first, to wit sort out the rig, the engine, the steering, and make her watertight. After you live with the interior for a while then decide what needs to be done. Get her sailing.

    Have not got a clue in the beginning because sound was very bad, plus I see one minute you truck is left and drive the next minute it is right hand drive, Also when looking at the trailer tyres they look like they should be illegal there appeared to be very little tread on them, as a professional driver of 37 years, I would not take that trailer on the road, it would be risking peoples lives.

    All the electrics need to be replaced. I would get a good solar generator/power bank and use that on the boat till a later date. You can run what you need off that. You can use shore power to charge it or use solar. I have one on my sailboat and a Honda gas generator for backup. Hard wires are gonna corrode quickly on a boat. It's a battle we will never win. Every screw that goes into the deck likely leaks on any boat that age. Pull them use butal tape under them as you replace them. Stanchions are a big source of leaking and chain plates. Good luck! 🤕⛵🧭🐬 Cheers, S/V Cork~Texas🇺🇲⛵

    I enjoyed your bravery after viewing the first video, but refrained from offering any advice. (I'm in my seventies and have built/repaired boats for three decades and currently rebuilding a Hollmann 52). Since this video asks "Did we make a mistake?" I will only point out that Bristol was a good quality builder, however, this boat is a VERY old design and quite small with just a 22' waterline. And this one has clearly not been taken care of. Now you are talking about tearing out and rebuilding a lot of the interior in addition to a major overhaul! I think if you are going to spend so much money and so much TIME rebuilding such a small boat that you're better off abandoning her, saving your money for another couple of years, and getting something newer, bigger, and in better shape. Check out Catalina 36s, or Pearson 365s, Erickson 36/38s, Gulfstar 39, etc - you can get some much more comfortable boats with greater storage/room for cruising with a lady for $35-$50K and not spend YEARS rebuilding and putting money into such an old design (that you'll never even come close to recovering the effort you put into it). Sorry, this advice won't be pleasant to read, but I mean well and hope you think long and hard about proceeding much further with this project. Get out now, while you've learned a lot but not wasted a lot of your life. Best of luck.

    This boat needs so much done to it that you dont even know where to start. None of the options are easy or cheap. Id start with engine, rigging, prop/shaft. thru-hulls/seacocks below the water line. That will get you out of the slip and sailing at least. You can work on things as they break or as needed after that.

    • @SouthDakotasailor

    I doubt your teak needs replacing. It’s amazingly resilient. But every fitting needs to be re-bedded every 5-10 years. If it’s a cored deck, and it’s leaking, you might have rot in the core… that’s a pretty big project, but if you take a bent nail and chuck it up on a drill you can clean out around every hole and fill with epoxy. Then re-drill and bolt with sealant. What you’ll likely need to replace is the hardware. Wet stainless steel, when deprived of oxygen like in a deck penetration, will suffer crevice corrosion. It’s shocking. But that’s where I would put my replacement money. Sail her for a bit and then look at the coring issue when you have a long haul out planned. And if it’s too much work for what she’s worth, pass is on to the next sailor to learn and grow on and get yourself the next one. And there is always a next one… no such thing as a perfect boat, because perfect boats never leave the yard.

  • @monocerosin
    @monocerosin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Stantions probably need rebed, hopefully not the entire toerail. Im working on mine making pvc board spacers to seperate the stantion from the toerail and reduce corrosion.
