My 1969 Ford Torino GT Hardtop - November 2024
My 1969 Ford Torino GT Hardtop after a good wash, a beautiful car.
This 1969 Ford Torino GT Hardtop is in very good to excellent condition, is highly optioned from factory and is quite un-molested. The car drives smoothly and beautifully. It is all matching numbers, fitted with a 351 Windsor V8 and FMX auto, the engine rocker covers appear to have never been disturbed. It happily cruises on the highway on weekend drives. Only changes to as-delivered configuration are, a closed door respray in original Indian Fire Red color and new twin exhaust system.
I believe I am the third owner and the 43535 miles on the odometer appear original. I purchased the car from the second owner outside of Indianapolis where it was sold new in 1969 and I have the original dealer supplied brochures and handbook. The previous owner put only 3000 miles on the car in 25 years of ownership. Engine looks have never have been removed from the car and still has factory stickers etc.. Interior is all original and in excellent shape and the car still appears to have original spare tyre in the trunk (see photo). There are original factory QC markings remaining throughout the car.
I've recently:
Fitted new correct size whitewall tyres,
Fitted a complete new twin exhaust system and sports mufflers (factory exhaust was rusted),
Rebuilt the original Autolite 2100 carburettor,
Replaced points, condenser and tuned engine correctly,
Flushed and changed fluids, adjusted brakes,
Compression tested engine and was healthy and even across all cylinders,
FMX changes smoothly and correctly.
Other things I have noted, but not corrected are:
Disconnected heater hose (previous owner advised of leak in heater core),
Factory air conditioning system functions smoothly, vacuum operated vents all work correctly, but the AC doesn't blow cold. Will likely need new seals and re-gas.
Minor corrosion blisters under the rear two corners of the original vinyl roof (see photos). I can see no other rust in the vehicle (other than minor surface rust on under carriage), it is very clean.
Some minor scratches in the paint on one door and front driver's side fender. I believe the respray was done around 20 years ago and has held up very well (see photos).
A couple of minor dents on the chrome trim on the front grille that need to be massaged out (see photos).
This Torino GT is highly optioned and from the Marti report, specifications specific to this car are:

Genuine only enquiries please and no tyre kickers.
Car has clean title, in my name.
Cheers.

Having owned a number of classic Fords in Australia, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a classic one whilst living here in the USA. A beautiful, very original 1969 Ford Torino GT Hardtop. Other than a closed door respray the car is as it left the factory, still has original spare, owners manual and approximately 42,000 miles. Looking forward to giving it a thorough service and then getting...

If you wanted a more efficient boiler, in the smoke box connect up to 3 tubes to send hot fumes back to the fire box the loop them to go back to the front. It's called super heating with way less fire burning which saves your pocket book

Thx for posting! The mill head on that model is located towards the tailstock end, I think on many other Emco lathes it is more in the center of the bed. Are you able to mill without removing the tailstock? I'm going to scour the internet until I find a picture of an Emco in a NASA lab. For your broken gear, I think that Emco lathes in later years generally used Mod1 gears. I needed change gears for my lathe, and found all the tooth counts in any module are available from a company called Maedler (MÄDLER GmbH). They are in Germany but it looks like they have an Australian distributor. The gears I bought were pretty reasonably priced, and made of what they call C10 steel. I had to bore out the hubs and make keyways, the C10 is free machining. If you need to to face a 10mm thick gear down to 8mm your diamond toolholder would be perfect. Also, for your QCTP toolholders, try milling the tool slot a little on the bottom, they machine quite easily IME, gives 3-5mm more space for tool height w/o getting too thin. Best regards from Left Coast USA.

I see so many proud people posting their sailing experiences but please, please guys trim your sails properly. The boat will perform so much better and be easier to handle when the wind picks up. I constantly see creases in the luff of the jib and main and also in the foot of the main, Put more tension on the halyards and outhaul just enough to remove all creases in the sail but not too much that you cause a line to run down the luff or the base of the main along the boom, A perfect set sail and a well tuned rig makes a boat look simply beautiful when it is sailing as should all sail boats.

My dad used to tell a story about when he was 18 and living in Oklahoma, he took a train to Linn, Washington to make wheat harvest out there. His train had to pull onto a siding in Wyoming to allow the "biggest" train engine he had ever seen pulling at least a mile of train cars as it passed his train. He later learned that it was a Big Boy engine that he had seen. He enjoyed telling his story of seeing it. Fast forward to Sep 2021. I live in Beloit, KS and I heard that Big Boy # 4014 was coming to Salina. Figuring that it had to be one of the engines that dad had seen, my wife and I drove to Salina to see it. I had heard that it was going to pass through St Marys also, so I told my son Alex who teaches school there about it so he took his class to the tracks to watch it pass. The sounds and the rumble at the crossing as it came into Salina is someone that I won't forget. Dad never knew which Big Boy engine he saw in Wyoming but I will always think it was UP 4014 that three generations of my family have witnessed it puffing steam and pulling hard into our memories. Thank you Union Pacific for completeing a 76 year adventure from my dad to me to my son.

The Stevenson type of boiler is difficult to make and often causes problems. I have designed and made a gas fired boiler for two of the 3 1/2" G locos I have made in my shall workshop These are based on the Smithies type where the steam raising is in a simple pot housed inside a larger tube. A gas burner is housed under the boiler so the heat surrounds it. I use a cannister of propane mix with Butane housed in the tender and it steams as well as a Stevenson type

I am building a Virginia at present and enjoyed your video. I can make a few comments. The LBSC design is fine and has worked well over many years. Copper is used as it is easy to work in to the flanged plates required which are then silver soldered together. This design is over engineered and has a structural failure pressure of some 600 PSI I have never heard of a model boiler failing structurally as the working pressure is very low at 8o PSI. I had a blow down valve blow out due to the brass de grading and become weak with age. I was driving the loco which was a Highland Lassie pacific . It was a shock but no harm was suffered as the jet of steam and hot water was kept out of harms way. The boiler pressure quickly fell and the loco stopped.. It would be interesting to hear of other experiences of boiler failure on a model .
