Video 30 In praise of idle time - when a spiral becomes a snake in the Year of the Wood Snake
I spent six hours carving wood while society tells me I should be doing something 'productive'.
Today's reflection explores why we struggle to allow ourselves idle creative time, the frustration of the creative process, and how dealing with imperfections builds resilience.
Sometimes, the real value isn't in what we make, but in what we discover about ourselves while making it.
Perhaps there's wisdom in how an intended spiral unexpectedly transformed into a snake right at the start of the Year of the Wood Snake.

Video 29 I failed at posting 31 videos in January - and nobody died!
มุมมอง 1214 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I set out to make a video every day in January and ended up with 29. Looking back at my wonky first attempts, learning what a thumbnail is, and filming with a £10 webcam - this journey taught me more than just video skills. If you're hesitating to start creating because everything needs to be perfect, this one's for you. Just start. Fail badly. Try anyway. #FindingYourCreativeVoice #CreativeHea...
Video 28 I blame 5 Minutes Craft
มุมมอง 1214 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I wanted to create these beautiful gilded letters I saw. Simple right? Well, after embossing, gesso, and cheap gold leaf sticking to my fingers, it really makes sense why we actually pay people to teach us things. Because watching someone do something and doing it yourself are two completely different stories. And maybe there's something interesting in this mess about expectations versus realit...
Video 27: Would I have started if I had known how hard it is?
มุมมอง 1416 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
From figuring out mirror hacks for woodworking to juggling multiple apps just to record a voice-over - nobody warns you about these challenges when you start creating. It's not about being stupid (though that thought still creeps in); it's about facing unexpected hurdles and finding ways through them. The real question isn't whether we're capable, but rather why we're so quick to blame ourselve...
Video 26 Relaxing my arse......!
มุมมอง 321 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today I had a physical sensation of shame, when my watercolour painting looked like nothing I imagined. The only reason I didn't give up was because I sat in an online class. I rescued it using my colour pencils in the end, but the urge to throw it in the bin was really strong. Why does no none ever talks about how difficult creating can be. #CreativeTruth #ArtisticStruggle #RealTalk #CreateAnyway

I couldn't decide what to share today, so this is a mix of talking about vestibular migraines, explaining how I got ME, and sharing some info about recovery from ME/CFS. An unexpected comment on other videos gave me a wobble, and seeing the number of subscribers going up makes me happy. #ChronicIllnessStories #VestibularMigraine #MECFS #CreativeJourney #ChronicallyHonest
Video 24 Chronic Illness: Why I Don't Like 'Good Days and Bad Days
มุมมอง 9วันที่ผ่านมา
A bit of chat about why the whole 'good days and bad days' talk around chronic illness doesn't sit right with me. I'm working on my neurographic art piece while sharing thoughts on how living with chronic illness is more complex than these simple labels suggest. And yes, my cursor vanished again at the end - chronic tech problems to match the chronic illness, eh? #ChronicIllnessReality #Disabil...
Video 23 Neurographic Art: Simple Drawing for Rest & Healing
มุมมอง 25714 วันที่ผ่านมา
Here's my take on neurographic art - a calming way to draw patterns and let your mind wander. I explain this technique while working through it myself, sharing bits about living with chronic illness and learning to pace. Whether you use coloured pencils or watercolours, it's about creating at your own speed. And yes, sometimes technology fails at the end of videos - that's just real life, isn't...

Don't use a rubber....best advice, I ever got. So instead of a cat, I ended up with a dragon. Well sort off. Also towards the end my screen went blank and showed me a different part of my laptop and I thought I had to cut it out, but then watching the video, realised the camera still only saw the drawing. Starting your own TH-cam videos is full of surprises and stuff to didn't even know you nee...

The more I do the more I know how little I know. Jeez, who would have thought that you could discover every time you do a video something that could have done better, or it doesn't work how you imagined. I thought the more videos I make, the easier it gets, but I am probably still a few videos away from saying, finally, I got it.

Have you been told that you need to be creative for self-care, but find it stressful instead? Today I'm sharing a gentle approach to creativity - the 1% solution (just 14.4 minutes of your day). Whether you're a busy parent, struggling with chronic illness, or just finding it hard to start, this chat explores how to make creativity accessible without pressure or shame. I found 50 wooden disks I forgot I bought over three years ago... I had recently bought another 50, because I thought, I had none! If you want to get real benefits from neurographia art, I suggest you learn to draw true neurographic lines. It's fine you enjoy what you are doing, but you cant call it neurographic art when you draw so quickly & have repetitive swirls. th-cam.com/video/3zPPLXmZk3Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DjKWTKnW8jjt2qfX

I think you're a bot but I'll write this for the sake of the artist: No one likes to be told what or how to do things, especially if they are relatively frivolous things. If you want something done right, then do it yourself (by which I mean, make your own videos about this topic) and don't scour the internet to whine at people who are trying to be helpful in the world.

@Harlequin52 thank you for your comment. I learned it this way and there are lots of other videos that teach it this way. I know your comment is meant to the other person. I feel TH-cam is a bit like Facebook, all sorts of people and when you start out with doing videos, it's so easy to get disheartened. Really appreciate your supporting comment.

This is how I learned it from another person on TH-cam and on a Zoom call. I stated that I'm not trained and I'm not claiming to do it the "proper way. I still find it a good way if you feel fatigued, and have heard other people say how beneficial they find it. Will have a look at your video suggestion. You can never learn too much 😊

I believe the lines are supposed to guide a gradient by adding a little more water and then adding a lot of water

Oh thank you. I was wondering if it was to mix in black and white, but I learned now, that for shadow unless, it's yellow, you use the complementary colour, not grey. Will have to try it out and make a video about it.

ty for being real! i am currently in a fm flair and was trying to start my videos consistently again after being too ill for a few years. I was feeling down that I just didn't have it in me to do anything. This reminded me that its ok and I'm not alone. thank you for sharing that takes a lot of courage! I have found that taking ubiquinol , spirulina , cracked chlorella and super greens very helpful...but not a total cure of course.

Im so glad you found this useful and I hope you will do your videos. I think it comes to a point where we know, it's not going to change anytime soon. Im working on recovery and I believe we can improve but I will no longer wait, till I'm presentable or perfect. We are already perfect as we are in this moment. We can always work on us, but right now, this is as good as it gets. And you have something to share someone else is waiting for. Go for it 🤩

Well done for "showing up". I'm coming to terms with the fact that I also have a chronic illness (rheumatoid arthritis) - and I'm having to shift my mindset from "I take all these pills to make me well again and it will be over" to "I take all these pills but I'm still unwell and will suffer bad days, and will have to manage my illness carefully for the rest of my life". On good days people around you don't realize you're still struggling , struggling to appear "normal" and to get on with "normal life". On bad days.... well, you know how it is. I came across the concept of "spoon theory" to describe the limited mental and physical resources available when you have a chronic illness. I hope you get some more spoons soon. I'm trying to conserve mine, but life tends to use them up too quickly. Best wishes, J

Thank you so much for sharing this. Yes, the spoon theory. When I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my first chronic illness, the rheumatologist said, the most important behaviour you have to learn is pacing. I had to look up what it meant. 😂😂😂 That was over 10 year ago and I feel I'm just getting the hang of it, because of course, I totally ignored that advice and burned myself out.

Hi Teresa, I'm glad to have found your channel. This is the sort of thing TH-cam should be for and I will be watching the rest of your videos, and have subscribed so I can follow your YT journey. "Done is better than perfect" is the phrase we all should live by. "Comparison is the thief of joy" is also one of my favourites. I'm just trying to start sharing on YT too, and perhaps one day I might get the courage to show some of my sketching, in the meantime I'm still trying to overcome the fear of speaking to the camera! You are inspiring me to keep going. Thanks, J
