Colonialism takes many various forms now such as hyper-consumerism via commercials, magazines, TV, movies, music industry, sports industries, billboards, cell phones, cars, clothes, processed foods, etc: it is a mindset. Music can create energetic, thoughtful, insightful, creative, joyous, more intelligent and compassionate children and therefore confident, caring, and independent adults. Sona mentioned the dark skinned girl - so much pressure still on girls 24/7 to be attractive every minute of the day. Botox,makeup, high heels, plastic surgery, tightly fitted clothing, etc. Sona is a tremendous inspiration to girls, boys, young women, and adults every where because of her fervent desire for inclusion and promotion of music and language: education reform = self-worth. I absolutely admire her for sticking to her African musical root and for going back and giving back. Many of us come to London, learn music theory then forget who are playing the music of the devil: R&B, pop, hip-hop which are all wrong representation of who we are, some of us make their money, become celebs, yet controlled by the colonial crooks we work for and whenever they feel, they could take the fame and money from us, send us to jail :) like R Kelly and soon Puff Daddy. We need to give back like she's doing, help build a bush school in Africa, Jamaica she's a hero.

SubhanAllah! This is an important aspect of our religion that is sadly neglected. As the lady rightly said, it is an obligation on the Muslim community to take care of our dead and return them to our Lord, Allah(swt) in dignity. We need an Islamic authority that will also be responsible for this work throughout the country. In as much as I commend the ladies and their association for the work they are doing, this shouldn't be left to an association but a central organisation. This, and other issues that are affecting the Muslim Ummah in the Gambia that needs taken care off, is all the more the reason why we need to reform the supreme Islamic council to an authority that is empowered to be responsible for the affairs of the Muslims. May Allah(swt) reward these women and men for the honourable work they are doing. Ameen.
