In 2024, FHNA’s grant proposal to clean up, revitalize and provide landscaping at Rock Island Park was approved by the City of St. Louis Park.
Their August 4, 2024 event was the historic park’s first cleanup project since the city acquired the park in May, 2023. Volunteers removed invasive plants, including buckthorn, burdock, honeysuckle and mulberry from large areas of the park. They made great progress towards clearing the space for landscape planning. The crew of 13 worked quickly, resulting in huge piles of brush for city removal.
