Flooring Underlayment Energy Absorption Demonstration

www.mpglobalproducts.com/flooring-underlayment/products/ How can quality underlayments provide continuous comfort to the floor? Google "calcium chloride moisture calculator" and you should get several tools where you can input your data and get a result. I'm not a professional, so don't trust what I say - but by your numbers it gave me a rating just shy of 7. I believe between 3-5 is recommended for non-breathing flooring materials - especially paints and epoxies that might delaminate from the vapor pressure. So yes - you probably need to address the issue in some way to avoid problems down the road. A moisture barrier is one method, but depending on the terrain and elevation improved drainage could be even more important. If your concrete is not old it could also have residual water sitting in it from creation. It can take a long time to fully equalize.

    Your other video "Ten Common Questions....." said to use the LV version for LVT that is thinner than 5 mm. This video said to use the LV version for 2 mm or thicker. My LVT is 5.5 mm, which is technically thicker than 2 mm, which would indicate I should use the LV version based on your statement. But this video "What Version of QuietWalk Do I Need?" says to use the original version for LVTs over 5 mm thick. Does this all translate to mean the LV version should be used for 2 mm to 5 mm in thickness, and anything over 5 mm in thickness the original version should be used? Hopefully my wording makes sense.

    what do you have for a basement floor ? the basement floor is tile.the floor is very cold.

    • @MPGlobalProducts
      @MPGlobalProducts ปีที่แล้ว

      Our underlayments go underneath flooring. Many of them provide some insulation to help with cold between the subfloor and the installed flooring. If you are planning to put down new tile over the basement floor you may look at adding our electrical radiant heat system to help with the cold floor. It add a nice even and gentle heat to your floors. www.mpglobalproducts.com/heated-flooring-systems/products/tile-flooring/

    I had just about 1000sq ft to test, i bought 2 of these and did the test. Both had consistent results- gram gain of 2.34 & 2.28. MVER rating 3.86 & 3.76. ASTM recommend 3 or less. So I am over- so here's the 1000$ question. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? I have confirmed that I do in fact need a Moisture Vapor Barrier for my LVP install?, that I would have done out of precaution anyway? Does it mean, I can't install LVP? What does it mean? Thanks in advance for your advice.

    • @MPGlobalProducts
      @MPGlobalProducts ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this is an excellent question. You have gone the extra mile to ensuring you even need a product under the vinyl plank and even more using the right product under your LVP for protection. If the LVP manufacturer says 3lbs or more of moisture in your slab you will need a 6mil vapor barrier....then you are there, you will need that according to your test results. It also means that one of our underlayments with a vapor barrier on it can give you all of the benefits of a 6mil for moisture protection plus offer other benefits like sound control, support for the joints, insulating comfort and durability for the life of your floor. Look at our QuietWalk LV product, it is made for vinyl plank with all the benefits. It's moisture rating is up to 6lbs per 1000sqft per day and would fit into your need well. www.mpglobalproducts.com/flooring-underlayment/products/quietwalk-luxury-vinyl/

The level of sound dampening will depend on the size of the area rug since sound will be able to penetrate the areas not covered by the rug/underlayment.

    • @MPGlobalProducts

      That is a great question, the test standard calls for it and the test manufacturer lists it in their instructions and we followed it.

    • @stickyfox
      @stickyfox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want the moisture traveling directly upward through the slab. If you test in the center of a large sealed area, you'll recover more water because it will be concentrated from the region around the test site. Sanding a minimum area around the dome helps prevent this and make a more accurate reading.

    Bellawood Platinum Underlayment vs Quiet Walk Underlayment which one is good for concrete less moisture room?

    • @MPGlobalProducts

      MP Global manufacture's both products. They have the same base fiber make up, but BW Platinum was developed for LL Flooring exclusively and their needs. It it a bit denser and has a better insulating value along with a better moisture protection limit - double the amount of QuietWalk. So if moisture is your concern, BW Platinum is the "cadillac" of the two products for that feature.

We are switching to SPC for the entire house, and we prefer not the remove these. We may need actually need to purchase more for other areas of the home. I watched one of your product videos that said if you were worried about moisture over concrete, it is okay to place a 6-mil poly barrier underneath the quiet walk. My concern is moisture getting trapped under the poly barrier and possible mold growth due to that. I will be testing the moisture level of the slab soon, but just trying to figure out a plan. Even if the moisture is okay, it's possible that could change down the road, right? It seems most flooring manufacturers recommend a poly barrier, but I've read a lot of conflicting things online that say they can actually trap moisture and cause it to sit there. Thanks for any advice.

    • @MPGlobalProducts
      @MPGlobalProducts 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All underlayment have limits to how much moisture or water they can protect against for your flooring. For QuietWalk that limit is a vapor emission rate above 5lbs/1000 sq ft/ 24 hrs as measured with a calcium chloride test kit. It is standard industry practice (both by NALFA and NWFA) to place a 6 mil vapor barrier down or concrete sealant first to a concrete slab that emits high level of moistures that an underlayment cannot offer in protection to. Yes, the 6mil vapor barrier will allow moisture to be blocked because that is what it does and has the potential to pool moisture, allowing the possibility of mold and mildew to grow, unfortunately. When there are high rates of moisture above what an underlayment is capable of, the use of 6 mil Vapor Barrier blockers are all the industry directs to use and is the standard.
