Lectures to My Students by Charles Spurgeon - The Uses of Anecdotes and Illustrations
มุมมอง 79 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Charles Spurgeon emphasizes the importance of anecdotes and illustrations in preaching, outlining their manifold benefits when used judiciously. He argues that stories captivate audiences, especially those prone to distraction, ensuring attention throughout a sermon. Much like engravings in books attract readers, anecdotes can entice congregants to engage with deeper truths. Spurgeon contends t...
Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible: Complete and Unabridged in One Volume - Psalm 6
มุมมอง 179 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Matthew Henry portrays Psalm 6 as one of David’s heartfelt lamentations, written during a time of profound distress, both external and internal. This psalm mirrors the structure of many others, beginning with deep sorrow and concluding with hopeful praise, reflecting the transformative power of prayer, akin to Hannah's shift from grief to peace. David’s complaints encompass three realms: physic...
An Old Testament Theology by Bruce K. Waltke - The Gift of Prophecy, Part 2: The Prophetic Books

The prophetic literature of the Old Testament, when viewed as a whole, offers a profound tapestry woven from threads of judgment, repentance, and hope. From the earliest voices that thundered warnings of social injustice and hollow ritualism, to the later prophets who witnessed the trauma of exile and envisioned a future restoration, these texts confront readers with the moral and spiritual imp...
What is Idolatry?
มุมมอง 209 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Idolatry, from a Reformed theological vantage point, signifies a grievous misalignment of the human heart, mind, and will. It involves directing the reverence, trust, and affection properly due only to the Triune God toward something else, whether tangible or intangible. Viewed through the lens of the Westminster Confession of Faith and the broader Reformed tradition, idolatry emerges as a deep...

John Calvin argues that true wisdom emerges from the interconnected knowledge of God and self. He begins by asserting that self-knowledge naturally leads to contemplation of God, for humans depend entirely on God for their existence and the gifts they possess. Recognizing human limitations-ignorance, weakness, and corruption-compels individuals to seek the fullness of wisdom, virtue, and righte...

Lectures to My Students by Charles Spurgeon - Anecdotes from the Pulpit
มุมมอง 1019 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Charles Spurgeon defends the use of anecdotes in sermons, critiquing those who disdain such tools as vulgar and unworthy of the pulpit. While acknowledging that not all preachers should employ anecdotes due to differing styles, he decries those who prioritize intellectual airs over clarity and accessibility, thus alienating common audiences. Spurgeon argues that effective preaching should reson...
Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers 1.8: Saint Augustin: Expositions on the Book of Psalms - Psalm 6
มุมมอง 2419 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Augustine explores the symbolic significance of the “eighth day” as a representation of the Day of Judgment and eternal life beyond temporal constraints. He critiques attempts to calculate the time of Christ’s return through numerical reckoning, emphasizing that such knowledge is reserved for God alone. Augustine interprets the eighth day as a departure from temporal cycles, signifying eternal ...

Jesus Who is in the show:
0:06 - 0:15 god has written everything in our lives and what will happen to everyone and everything in existence. People are fooled into thinking we have free will but dont hear that we are all accounted for by God. He permits evil because humanity was warned and ignored Gods words.
'Agnosticism' is what atheists hide behind when asked to justify atheism.
I will believe it when i see it. Fence sitter. Hedging their bet against the idea God may exist. Minority part of the larger problem. Unwilling to take a stance that might make them accountable. Mostly want to be left alone and away from a fight that makes no sense. Not wrong, just cogs in a machine they neither are hurt by or profit from in any significant way. Until it is at their doorstep and life forces you to pick a side. Sadly, it is usually the side they thought was the problem in the first place. Agnostics are the ones that sat home despite living in a swing state when independence was at stake. Not a left or right circle jerk super bowl our elections usually are but the 1 clear time it was Us vs them, the Haves vs the Have nots, the Minority aka the 1% vs the Majority aka the poors aka the 99% and they population went for subjugation. I want to be classified. I want to be stereotyped. Time to 💩 or get off the pot.
Sir, this is a Wendy's
if you ask someone if they believe in god and they tell you they are agnostic, then they are an atheist. agnosticism is not a third answer to the question of belief.
Thank you. A great help!!!
Wow I love this, may God bless you and keep you through all the days of your life my brother
How can a video, asking the question, "what is atheism", be almost 42 minutes long???
the·ism /ˈTHēˌizəm/ noun belief in the existence of a god or gods, especially belief in one god as creator of the universe, intervening in it and sustaining a personal relation to his creatures. "there are many different forms of theism" a·the·ism /ˈāTHēˌiz(ə)m/ noun disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods. I didn't watch the forty minutes of what ever this is because, the answer to the question in the title should only take a couple of seconds, and anything else is just speculation. spec·u·la·tion /ˌspekyəˈlāSH(ə)n/ noun 1. the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence. "there has been widespread speculation that he plans to quit" 2. investment in stocks, property, or other ventures in the hope of gain but with the risk of loss. "the company's move into property speculation"
Nothing pis ses atheists off more than being told they actually believe in god.
I didn't plan on watching this video. Please don't tell me the guy literally used the Strawman fallacy, "atheists really do believe in god"!! :-/
Very tired apologist stuff. More videos that actually work in the atheists' favour.
I don't mind going through the details and history, but I wonder what purpose this serves? It tries to give a really complicated answer to a very simple question: do you believe in god(s)? Everything else you want to know, you have to ask the atheist in question. But I guess there is some value to go through this, however, this channel seems to be focusing more on explaining why its creator's dogmas are the the truth and this video gives a bit dishonest vibes. Speak with others, so you can understand their position.
12:25 wow so true, before we are saved we are our own worst enemy, I could see that and tried everything to fix myself, thank God because only He could do it.
Fantastic! Thank you
Ref 27:35
OK, so 42 minutes asking "What is atheism?" when one sentence would do? Heh, heh. It's the lack of belief in a god or gods. Period. What's a "god"? Well, that's up to _you._ I mean, atheism is just the reaction to a claim. And _theists_ make the claim. So you tell _me_ what your god is - and why you think he, she, or it is real - and I'll tell you whether I can accept your claim or not. (Spoiler: If you have nothing distinguishable from wishful-thinking backing up your claim, it's probably going to be "not.")
This is a typical example of the theological framework of Reformed Christianity trying to frame atheism as a spiritual problem rather than a rational or intellectual position. The core issue with this perspective is that it assumes atheism arises from some inherent flaw or "fallenness" in human nature, a worldview that dismisses the possibility that atheism could be a reasoned conclusion based on a lack of convincing evidence for theistic claims. The argument that atheism is the result of "willful suppression of the truth" is essentially a theological assertion, not a logically sound critique. It assumes that the Christian worldview is the baseline for understanding truth, and any deviation from it must be a result of moral or spiritual corruption. This doesn't account for the variety of thoughtful, moral, and purposeful lives that atheists live based on secular reasoning, nor does it address the fact that many atheists have actively sought, and found no convincing evidence, for the existence of a deity. The notion that atheism "undermines objective moral principles" is a common but flawed claim. Secular humanism, for example, has demonstrated that ethical frameworks can be constructed based on human well-being, societal cooperation, and reason-without needing a divine command. It’s a misunderstanding of ethics to claim that moral order can only come from a higher being. In fact, one might argue that believing morality comes from God leads to moral arbitrariness-whatever God commands is deemed moral, regardless of its actual consequences. Furthermore, the claim that "transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit" sidesteps the reality that for many, atheism arises from the pursuit of knowledge, evidence, and intellectual honesty, rather than a "hardening of the heart." This framing diminishes the agency of individuals in seeking truth, instead attributing their intellectual independence to a failure of spiritual alignment. The message of love and patience for atheists is ultimately noble, but the underlying assumption that atheism is a result of spiritual blindness that can only be corrected through exposure to Christian doctrine is highly problematic. Atheists don’t need "salvation" in the Christian sense; they are simply people who see the world differently, often with a focus on evidence, reason, and human-centered values. At the end of the day, if the goal is to genuinely understand the position of atheism and engage with it on intellectual terms, it’s more productive to abandon the assumption that non-belief is a moral or spiritual defect. Instead, recognizing atheism as a valid position based on skepticism of supernatural claims allows for a more respectful and meaningful dialogue.
Don't describe atheists as people who don't believe in God. Far more theists than atheists fit that definition. Muslims and Hindus mostly.
So somebody who is not an atheist think it is their place to explain what atheism is. Step one - actually ask an atheist!
This is an explanation of atheism from a Christian perspective. If you feel triggered by this, I am sure there are other videos that will suit your selective needs.
@@asheshov12 With all seriousness, what would your response be if I produced a video entitled 'what is Christianity' and then did not give an unbiased presentation? I am not triggered by the existence of the video. I am triggered by the content and how it doesn't match with what atheists actually are and think. Also, I love how people use 'triggered' as if someone shouldn't react when they are insulted. You are obviously triggered by my response to this video :)
@@asheshov12 even from a christian perspective (whatever that is) the answer is still the same. Atheism the is the lack of a belief in god. It's so simple.
