Napalm Death - You Suffer (Live 1986)
"You Suffer" was largely a comedy thing, one-second song. Utterly retarded. It's ridiculous, but it was hilarious. We played that song in front of 30 local kids, like, every weekend. We played that song 30 times. It was a laugh. - Justin Broadrick

Great early EP by Aphex Twin. Richard made the title track to cool down his audiences after a long rave, and Isoprophlex is also featured on his very first release, "Analog Bubblebath". Track List: 1. Digeridoo - 00:00 2. Flap Head - 07:13 3. Phloam - 14:13 4. Isoprophlex - 19:49

“His name is Richard Peterson. He’s an artistic street musician. We asked permission to use one track off his CD (titled The Second Album) called “Second Album.” (Robert DeLeo) “He’s a guy from Washington somewhere, a small town-not Aberdeen-but I guess Dean did a radio interview up there in Washington, and he saw this picture of this guy in the Wall posing with Johnny Mathis. And he was like, ‘Wow, who’s this guy?’ And they said, ‘Oh, that’s Richard Peterson, he’s got his own records out.’ We got a tape of his stuff, and it was just fucking great, so we instantly put it on, you know, the music before we go on stage, and just were listening to it all the time and turning on all our friends to it. And the song is the first on his second album, you know? It’s just so self-explanatory to how he feels about his second album that we felt it kinda fits our situation too.” (Scott Weiland) Fun fact: Peterson was paid $10,000 for the song’s inclusion on Purple and promised another $10,000 for every million copies the record sold. The album sold more than six million copies in the United States alone.

The change from YYZ to the Tommy Into was a little sloppy for Les, I wonder if he was still getting used to "Bernard" (the name for the rainbow bass he made up, I think; if I recall the interview that I'd read of him saying that like 30 years ago in "Bass player" magazine while I obsessed over Primus and Les' bass playing all through high school - especially this bass line)

You’re correct about Didgeridoo, what you said in the description; I feel lucky to have had many early morning warehouse experiences that rendered all of us mesmerized, awash in the beauty of this early gem. I used to have a good time mixing it with RSW’s “The Phantom” which I had to pitch up obviously or slowww down sir Richard :)

I wonder if people recognize that without primus the whole of rock would be completely different. There's so many bands that either wouldn't exist at all or would have been significantly different. Korn, Incubus, Mudvayne, probably some of the biggest names inspired heavily by primus. If you don't hear it... listen again. And read about their early years. Listen to early primus... then listen to early korn or Fungus Amongus/Science by Incubus or LD 50 by mudvayne. Those albums have primus written all over them and they spawned so much music themselves too. Primus should be considered as one of the absolute most important rock bands of our time. They were so fucking crazy inventive and ahead of their time. It's hard to grasp they were doing this in the mid 80s already. Fucking 1986 they were playing Tommy the Cat. There's demos. It's great. In fucking 1986 dude. There still is nothing like primus... but back then? They had to be the weirdest thing anyone ever saw and it was probably outrageously amazing.

Thanks for the heads up on Primus influnce on many many bands. Maybe you have seen their Hallucino-Genetics: Live 2004 Tour dvd and also their Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People cd & dvd videos compilation with plenty of archival extras. A very under-rated band with their own influences then creating their own sound.
