Nice maples..both species 👍👍
@@timbarden4578 thanks tim. Be safe my friend
@@loggerman4202 slipped on Friday hurt my ribs. I'm working on a steep hillside..hurt goes with our occupation..I'm bitching but okay..fell on sawhandle
@@timbarden4578 ouch. Hope you get better soon. I gotta go to the chiropractor my back is out again from all the work I been doing. My wife and I are almost done painting our house. Going to finish it up Monday, plus my logging work. We both haven't had a day off in 2 months
Nice maples..both species 👍👍
Why an old skidder? Wouldn't you get better results with a newer skid steer, or mini excavator?
There isn’t a skidsteer or mini excavator in the world that will compete with a skidder and how well they do getting the wood out of the woods… I own all 3 and my skidsteer and mini stay at the landing to help buck the logs that are dragged out of the woods from the skidder 👍🏻
@@rickshaw296 it works just like a new skidder. I keep my equipment up good. Better on fuel and easier to work on. Makes the same money as a new one also. Thanks for watching and be safe
@@thatwoodguy104 well said my friend. Be safe out there
He actually said "Timber". Too funny. 🤣 I've been cutting firewood my whole life, and I've also known quite a few loggers here in the PacNW. I didn't think anyone ever really said that.
@@Condor1970 sometimes I even yell timber mother fucker... lol
@@loggerman4202 👍
@@Condor1970 thanks fir watching my videos. Hope you like my channel.
Good to see you got the skidder going..lousy weather coming this week they say
@@timbarden4578 I know. I'm in the process of painting my house, going to take 2 days off next week and finish it
@@timbarden4578 I'm still figuring this damn skidder out. I put all new cables, batteries. Shut of switch, ignition, starter, alternator. Still engages starter while running snd trips gear off starter. I triple checked it's hooked up correctly. So I put a online kill switch between starter and ignition. That seems to work but now damn thing is cutting out and trying to shut down when on throttle. I.just changed fuel filter so hopefully that is the problem. If not I will change fuel pump.
I seem to get hurt once weekly ..something always sore..lol..nice oaks there 👍
@@timbarden4578 I had a spring pole crack me. My fault. I was rushing and only looked it over a split second.
Nice job Bull!!
@@nhmountains5683 thanks
You seeing many ticks in the woods down there? I haven’t had any on me since May up here in NH.
@@nhmountains5683 we got lots of those little bastards, I have had a few on me. I guess they hatched a bunch of new baby ticks
I gave up turkey hunting for the most part because of them bastards. I try to cut my firewood in December or January now when they are not crawling around.
@@nhmountains5683 I hear ya Creepy little bastards.
Buddy, just found your channel. Really good stuff. Love way you lay em down. I have an old homelite superXL. It's old enough it had points when new. Father used for years now I do. About time fo new saw.lol 372 clone looks good.
@@mj_slender6717 I'm glad you like my channel . My first saw was a Homelite when I was young. Good saw.
I didn’t get a good look at the leaves, but it appears to be next to some small Ash trees, but the bark and dark heartwood says, Hornbeam!!! (it’s in the ash family)! Yeah it’s easy to cut green, but dead-standing it’s “ironwood”, (sparks flying off your bar hard, hot burning, hard to split too)!!! But, it burns hot as hell in a wood stove, it’s like the 2 hottest tree BTU/per/ lbs. you can find in Eastern Forests!!! Some call it “blacksmith wood” or “axe handle wood”, referred to up here, in Maine! We have a lot up here, but I’m not sure if it’s common down that far (Pennsylvania, right)? It Could be, the leaves look pretty close to an ash tree, same family just,(it’s badass cousin, Bub)!!! Hope it helps $$$!
They were sassafras trees. Makes pretty lumber. Not worth to much but still really pretty wood and smells good also
Keep up the good work
Any idea what a red oak that size would pay to a landowner? (Me). ..ive got about 130 that size on property in upper Michigan..
@@scottb6098 you would probably average 50 cents a board foot on the stump. Meaning standing Trees in your woods you got to sell and someone has to invest lots of money and hardwork to get the trees out and to the buyers. So another way to look at it is you should receive 600 dollars a load for low grade logs, and your nicer grade logs should be roughly 1000 bucks a load for you.
Takes 60 to 75 logs for a load of trees the size in my video
Not trees but logs.
Nice oaks logs..been a rainy week..making woods little soft..been good all summer..hopefully winter is decent
@@timbarden4578 I hope we haven't had a good winter in a while
@@loggerman4202 hope the ground gets hard till spring melt..I'm in central N.Y. so not far from you..about the same weather here as you..I'm all for no mud all winter..that gets old fast but has kinds become the norm 👍👍
@@timbarden4578 I hear ya I hate the mud. It makes your boots ten lbs a piece and after all day of work then my damn knees and feet hurt so bad can't even hardly walk. But then you wake up the next day and good to go again. Funny how that works out
I remember when that happend.
@@egeorge123 me too. Lol. I bet you even bowled in the charity fundraiser tournament they help for me. I watched it anyway.
Steve.. what a story. Glad you’re still here sir. Cant keep us loggers down✊🏻🪵🪓 be safe
You run those 572xp. I'm having a issue when I let mine idle it revs an dies an have to reprime the saw an go thru the choking ,otherwise it won't start back up.
@Nathan-m8r I haven't had a problem with any of mine. Mine all run great. I use the 93 octane gas with husky xp mix 50 to 1 ratio
I have ms-400. I've been running a 20 inch light bar on it. I have a 24 inch bar. I prefer the 20 inch bar
They also lay eggs on them and those will feed on that worm taking its life eventually
@bernardfrith9641 it was trying to fly off with the worm, but the worm was almost to heavy. It did eventually fly off with the worm.
Sassafras my guess
@@mountainmanlogging2573 nice guess bud
You are correct, they are sassafras
Very interesting to see that part of your process and how you organise your landing. Assuming the scrag poles are worth more than firewood? What do they get used for? Cheers from the UK.
@quintusopus5852 they are worth more then firewood, they get made into pallets, fir shipping products on
Is there any money in red oak these days? Such a beautiful wood, tall and straight, but the market seems to have fallen out for red oak. White oak and black walnut where it at. Those are puff palls, or earth balls, and I call those spiders triangle backs or thorny backs. They come out late August in masses.
@KevinsDisobedience I been averaging 125 a foot for my red oak export Logs. The rest I'm getting 80 cents for number 1 and 70 cents fir 2 and 3grades. All 3 different markets and buyers
Great job buddy I was up in Titusville last Friday teaching class!
@@Pa-Logging-instructor Nice, look me up next time I live in pleasantville
@@loggerman4202 nice I go through there all the time
What’s soft maple running in your neck of the woods ours is $.55/ft Doyle
@jerradtaylor .75 number ones. But my buddie is working on a export market for it at the moment. Hope it works out

@jtrocktree5409 yes that's true...lol
Nice job on the second tree
No wedge required on the banana tree..lol..hey what's those things on your legs..I'm always getting yelled at for lack of...lol🙃🙃
@timbarden4578 I gotta wear my chaps when I cut in my shorts.plus all the damn poison ivy and poison oak all over the place
@@loggerman4202 i can see that..i don't do shorts..my wife says I should have my chaps on all the time..I have saw pants but they stay in the truck..I did knick my leg last month 4 stitches and tetnis shot..comes with the territory 👍👍
@timbarden4578 yes it does I knocked my left leg 3 times so far 3 stitches every time.

Have you found any yellow jackets
@richardledsome7967 I have found quite a few this year. Luckily not full contact. I wish I didn't just say that..lol
Please help me save a tree species...PitchPine.....In old tobacco barns and in ancient eastern construction. It was the old world way of teeated wood. Actually much better than than anything we know today. There are 150 yr. old homes still sitting on pitch p🎉ine foundations....But down there they call it lightard. My dad was a sawyer on the east coast for 30 yrs. And he ran into two of them. Among millions
They want to eliminate it because it is a very slow growing tree. It's all about money and turnover..some cedar my family planted long ago has been half killed twice by the neighbors cycling òf lob lollies.
Believe it or not. A eastern aromatic red cedar can grow as tall or taller. And get bigger than any other tree in the woods.
One that I'm after now is 3' in diameter and around 70' tall.
Down south if a bird shits on a fence....you have a cedar. Let's let them grow.... past the Illinois fence...they can't survive . Maybe eastern red cedar is predjustist. Lol
@AndyRyan-qt5ks how do I go about helping to save this tree species? Just make people aware about it on my channel??
Clean and simple, every time. Fine work.
Second one almost looks like cucumber.
@KevinsDisobedience it dies look like a cucumber, there are actually a few cucumber in the area around that tulip poplar. If you want stickers pm me your name and address on my Facebook. Steve Richards titusville Pennsylvania
Nice neat work. I like to see it. Boom, baby!
@KevinsDisobedience thank you sir. Much appreciated. Thanks for watching my channel
I don’t know why they call it soft. I find mature maple of almost any variety to be stringy and dense and no fun to cut.
Really enjoy your videos man. Would love to see a bit of clean up - limbing, bucking etc. Also hooking up and skidding. Appreciate you probably don’t have time to be messing around with cameras and such though. Keep em coming 💪
@quintusopus5852 I will try and make a few of those videos. Thanks for watching
I still need one more person to reply answers fir the stickers...
Careful , them damn rattle snakes in those rock piles +!!
@jtrocktree5409 lol. Luckily there aren't too many rattlesnake in my area, I have cut a few jobs they were on but never ran into one, we did kill a few copperheads on a couple jobs in Richardsville pa and Clear Creek St. Park
Im not in for the stickers..I'm happy with the one's you sent me..both the above comments are correct..good looking wood there..small heart on that soft maple..that be nice boards👍👍

Nice to see the skidder working..change of pace from cutting videos 👍👍
@timbarden4578 yes, I know. But it's harder making the skidding videos myself. I like them but it's a pain in the ass. I got to set up the camera way down the rd. Then walk back get on skidder ect. Lol
