Hi, I'm Dave, and welcome to my grand adventure. After a few careers I decided to retire from teaching and hit the road. In June of 2024 I shipped my 2003 International 3800 skoolie from the US to Liverpool in the UK and am now travelling around Europe. It's fully self-contained and I also have a little Honda Monkey motorcycle in the back for all those narrow, twisty or city streets. Join me on my adventures!
US Skoolie in Europe - Lapalud to Avignon
Today I make a fairly short trip, but see some cool stuff. I stop at another castle/fortress and have another R5 sighting!

In my continuing quest to find warmer weather I head down towards Avignon along the Rhone. The start of the trip had me on some very narrow roads, but it got easier as the day went on. I also had fun trying to chase down an older converted Mercedes bus. #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #vanlife

Continuing south through France I go past Lyon to a castle, where else, but up on a hill.... It was a good travel day even though I had a few minor issues. Thanks again for watching these, and if you could translate what the guy in the white van was saying, I'd really appreciate it! #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #vanlife

Getting to some of the aires has been challenging with the bus. This one was a little tricky as well. I'm getting closer to Monaco with every video! #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #vanlife
US Skoolie in Europe - Nancy To Torcenay
มุมมอง 2112 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Making more progress towards southern France. Today I drive from the Nancy area down to Torcenay and discover a continental divide and a crepe making machine! Here is the link to the machine I saw in Carrefour - www.newsflare.com/video/294314/automatic-crepe-maker-seen-spinning-out-pancakes-at-french-supermarket #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #vanlife

US Skoolie in Europe - Luxembourg City visit
มุมมอง 3314 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
A quick visit to the capital city of Luxembourg from Dudelange. The trains are free in the country so why not do some exploring? The weather was not the best, but it was still fun. I met some Canadian couples walking around and a fellow New Englander at a restaurant during lunch. I hope you enjoy this video, it's my first attempt at overlaying an audio track. #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #van...

After getting off the ferry, and eventually through customs, I add a new country to my travels and make it to Luxembourg. Join me on my first days back in Europe since September, 2024. I forgot to insert my fuel mileage when I filled up in Luxembourg - 127.42 litres/33.66 gallons and 9.98 mpg. #skoolie #skoolielife #buslife #vanlife
US Skoolie in the UK - Taking the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam
มุมมอง 7816 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I make the jump back to Europe crossing from Hull to Rotterdam. I learned a few things at the passport control on the other side that might help fellow RV travelers. My goal is to start heading south in Europe and find some warmer weather! #skoolie #skoolieconversion #buslife #vanlife
US Skoolie in the UK - Newcastle to Goole (via Sandsend)

Today I took the long way down towards Hull. I swung by Sandsend for a quick stop and then across the Yorkshire Moors. There were lots of downs and ups on this trip! #skoolie #skoolielife #vanlife #buslife

The final segment of the trip to our camping spot for the week of Christmas. The little FRS radios come in handy and I find the lost motorcycle video from North Berwick! We stayed here - thepaddocksrv.com/ and it certainly fits larger rigs. It's been great hanging out with @avancalleddignity. #vanlife #buslife #skoolielife #skoolie

great video, pitty u nevercheck out south wales as u went to north wales miss out on lot of the uk
Thanks for watching. Don't worry, I'll be back in the UK in May for a few months so I still have more exploring to do.
Hard to hear you speaking when your driving don't u have a Mike you can pin to yourself
I have a remote mic for the Insta360 (the one with GPS data) but not the GoPro. I'll try to speak up or increase the volume in editing. Thanks for the feedback (no pun intended...)
The descent into Sandsend used to have two signs for local bus drivers. The first said "Drivers stop here. Engage 2nd gear" the next said "Drivers stop here, engage 1st gear" I heard of a driver that assumed a 1980s Leylabd National didn't need such guidance and REALLY regretted it "What a ride, man!" was his quote. Stay safe in your travels
Thanks! Fortunately I rode up and down that hill back un July with my motorcycle so I knew how steep it was. I had shifted down to 2nd gear in the bus before the really steep part.
I'm just imagining a French farmer looking up and seeing that school bus go by down their little tiny road.😂
Tu es originaire d où ?
C'est un Américain qui a vécu récemment dans le New Hampshire
@BlackWallFilm merci à toi 😉
Very nice weather
@@timhenning18 yes, finally getting warmer!
@London2Turin Im happy for you!
Very cool 👍👍
Il est magnifique votre bus😍
@@mat7387 merci!
Merci pour la visite du bus à Uzes👍🤩
I need to set up a studio in my house for a podcast. That moving camera is ace. What model is it please? Stumbled across yer channel today. And thanks for pronouncing Edinburgh correctly, most North Americans have a real problem with it 😂. I live in Edinburgh by the way 😊
Thanks for watching. If you want to hear some badly pronounced towns, watch my upcoming French videos! The camera is an Insta360 x3. I bought a remote (Bluetooth) mic for it which helps too. Buy extra batteries since they last about an hour or so.
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Try to eat stooflees met fritche
Looks delicious!
@London2Turin try it!
Mate your reaction to the sat nav telling you were going the wrong way is timeless 😅😅❤✌️
Keep on rolling Dave 👌. Today we hauled a new old Ferguson home 😉.
Weather sucks huh
Firstly Dave, I'm very proud of you for taking on those bridges like a pro! I was there with you in spirit 😊. What a great video, thank you for sharing it with us- we were so happy to see the (wet) weather improve as you got towards Edinburgh too. Hope you're being treated to some warmer weather in Europe. Also despite the lack of GPS, you got some great footage with your GoPro. We miss you Dave, love from all 3 of us x
Love the video! We love going to ikea in the bus! Happy New year!!
Very cool, thanks for uploading will watch more to find out your story as to how u ended up over here. Rob danks from wednesbury England
@@juliedanks6615 thanks for watching. I'll keep the videos coming as I travel around.
Very misty drive!
Yes it was. I will get back to Scotland later in the year when it will at least be warmer.
Hi Dave. Good to chat with you in Dumbarton earlier today. Thanks for the sticker and the look around the Skoolie - it's an amazing machine and certainly an eyecatcher on Scottish roads. Have a good new year, and safe and healthy travels to you. Subscribed.
@@grobbler1 it was nice to meet you guys too. Thanks for watching and subscribing. We found a good spot overlooking Loch Lomond for the night, real nice countryside up here!
The radios have come in real handy for sure Dave 😀. We will never tire of seeing your Insta360 shots; the in-editing tricks make for really enjoyable content- but what a shame about the battery before your ride! It’s been really good fun spending Christmas with you (and we’ve already eaten our second pieces of pie! 😂)
It's been great hanging out with you guys too. Glad you enjoyed the pie! You should check out Weebl & Bob - th-cam.com/video/s3Gdezyt8eY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qhedTnJnciwvtISL
Great Day out. And awesome video of the Day ❤
Looking good 👍
Live free or die 💪👌
Its a bit funny for a bus to have to wait for the tides!
Yes, definitely a unique situation, but I was glad we were able to do it!
Another great video and spectacular driving of our narrower Uk roads 😂. So that was the ‘Big Horn’, which will (occasionally) play music, or read poetry/quotes to travellers as they pass. What a brilliant spot by you! Also, we agree - that view was fantastic and definitely gave out Jetsons vibes 😊✌️
North Berwick to glasgow is in Scotland not England. Get a map
@jamesmcgurk747 wow you get aggressive over a little typo. 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, nice weather!
Nice area you are in!
Hi Dave, Peggy & Cat
Nice old bus, back in 2002 Wrexham C.C. had 8 American school buses for the school runs all Yellow with black trim and black wheels and were made by Blue Bird and were in service from 2002 to 2014 all made in USA and were RHD
Thanks. Were those buses flat nosed ones or conventional (like mine)?
@@London2Turin Flat nose buses
Be safe my friend 👍😉
Great video Dave! You handle our UK roads better than some homegrown residents 🤣👌. Glad you're enjoying your adventures so far, and it's so much fun just hanging out with you. Here's to a Scottish Christmas too 🎄
Hey Dave, your bottle holder is nice! Hope you're doing good!
Yes, it's great being back on the road again!
@London2Turin I bet 😉👍
Yep. If you see an old Fergie, please take pictures for me 😉👍
Looks good Dave!👍
Amazing bus, saw you on @liveration ❤
An unattractive single man's bus build. It's an accomplishment bc it fits exactly what he wants & needs.
❤ hope you have a good recovery x
Thanks, so far, it's pretty much on track.
@ great news, you will be back on that monkey bike before you know it x

Can't have been easy to do that vlog buddy ✌️❤
I consciously recorded this while driving so I would have something else going on to distract me. It would have been more difficult just sitting there talking about it.
@@London2Turin absolutely get that ! Won't be long before it's all a distant memory and you have more miles under your belt and a plethora of stories. Hopefully Spring time we'll get to Scotland ✌️❤️
How did it compare to the Sckoolie ?
@@avancalleddignity easy to maneuver, but a bit low on power. Would still like to try one out on the roads....
@@London2Turin yeah I can imagine it been quite a fun thing to do.. Wow was there a noticeable difference between that and the schoolie ?
@@avancalleddignity not really, but I only got to drive it around in circles so I couldn't make a fair comparison.
@@London2Turin fair one 👍
@@London2Turin those old ones only have something like a naturally aspirated, old-style injection, 12-valve, 10-litre 6-cylinder Diesel engine that's about 180hp. Alexander Dennis currently offers the diesel version of the Enviro400 with a turbocharged, common-rail injected, 24-valve, 6.7-litre 6-cylinder Diesel engine with 250hp (the Cummins ISB6.7 - I believe you have the predecessor ISB5.9 in your bus?)
Is in the UK? Did the American driver get lost? What was her name?
I'm still in the UK and not lost anymore!
😂😂 Dave you put most people at shame parking your bus, you make it look so easy
Thanks! It was just about as much fun driving it in there in the first place.
great vid man love the hood ornament too

Hi Dave, looks like you had a great time at Monza, nice to hear an unbiased opinion of the circuit and the crowds. Hope you continue to enjoy your tour. Stay safe. Tony and Jane.
