Happy New Year Ladies!! Hope you are staying cool in this summer heat. 😊🌻💕🦘
How lovely it is to see you with those lovely pink, orange & green colours right now! I'm sorry it's so hot there, though 🥵 It was low of -13 Celsius here (still in US another week)last night, but i think I prefer cold over hot 😅 But I love the glimpse of summer when I see those colours! OK, back to watching the video 🤗 Adding: Pia's weaving immediately made me think of tulips on the garden, just before they open up. Springtime 💗🌷🌷🌷
thank you for watching Susan! I also much prefer cold weather over hot weather. you can always rug up and put more clothes on but when it's 37 Celsius there isn't much you can do apart from stay inside. Having said that, I don't think I've ever experienced anything as cold as minus 13. The coldest we get in winter here is about 0-2 degrees. Hope your Dad is doing better!
@lavendercottagefibrearts Thanks, he is! So grateful 🙏
Ooooh these colours looks so lovely on you guys!
thank you so much! i love bright colours, they are fun to wear and a joy to knit with.
You two were so well behaved with all the temptations at the festival! Some of the spinning channels I like are Jillian Eve, Fiber Love Diaries, Ewethful Fiber Farm and Mill, Soulful Spinning
Thank you for those recommendations Susan I will definitely add them to my list!! I think my friend did mention soulful spinning, but I had not heard of the other ones.
It was so lovely to meet you both at the festival in December! I’m looking forward to seeing you in Adelaide this year too! Love the green tank by the way, have added it to my pattern library!
Thank you Ally, it will be great to see you in Adelaide! Highly recommend the tank, it works up super quickly and perfect for this heat wave we seem to be having all around Australia.
Ooh Merida is from the movie Brave - it is a great movie! Highly recommend! I love your mini mock neck tank! You did such a great job of yours.
ah thank you for that! i am not up to date on my Disney movies lol.
Can I do this with acrylic 🧶
Will it really work
Reverse All your lies ever told and be a food servant for the homeless and do the task in person very important for everyone souls next life!!!!!
Go Dad <3 that is very sweet :) My daughters love what I make for them, my eldest is always asking me for crocheted items and then tells everyone I made them and is really proud of wearing them, I get emotional just writing this. I love making things for her <3
That is so lovely to hear about your daughter!!!
Thank you so much ladies! Can’t tell you how much we enjoy your podcast … 😊 My daughter (Maddie) and I like nothing better than to visit Lavender Cottage and knit/crochet while we drool over all your lovely projects! We are so inspired by everything you do. We watch a lot of crafting podcasts, but yours is hands down our number one favourite … 😁 We can’t wait to see what you create at your next Saori weaving class (we do Saori and other weaving too), and Maddie is very interested in the Kintsugi technique. She does fused glass in her microwave kilns and makes fabulous jewellery pieces and earrings, and I studied pottery and sculpture at uni, so I am always keen to see what you have been up to Pia. Anyway, thank you so much for making our day … look forward to your next episode. Hugs from Darwin … 🥰🌴🌴🌴 Oooh and we love your socks Anna! 😜
@@jenibylsma9845 Jeni you always have such nice things to say! We will definitely film some of the workshops and share the results. Fused glass looks very cool I’d love to do a workshop one day. Hugs to you and Maddie from Melbourne!
Guys, I made hot water bobble, it's cute, but it is NOT really comfortable to use, because of bobbles 😅
oh no! thank you for that feedback. perhaps I could try doing the bobbles just on one side and have one side in plain stockinette.
@lavendercottagefibrearts yes, I think it will be better this way!
Anna - your stripey jumper is amazing! So much knitting! Your Brisbane socks look lovely - such a pretty colour from NNK. Love your Darwin socks too - I lived in Darwin for more than 20 years - cracker night was always crazy!
That pink yarn with the neon tweed! It's going to look so cute. Fab that you were able to find out that important tip on fit from your knitting group. The community can be so helpful!
Thank you for watching Susan. Yes it is great to have people I can ask for help and recommendations, they have saved me a lot of time and having to frog things.
I love seeing Pia’s ceramic projects as well! You ladies are both so creative
Also would love to hear about your hike as well.
Thank you so much! I will ask Pia if she has any nice videos or photos to include in our next knit and chat.
Anna some wonderful gift ideas, Thanks for sharing!!😊🧶🌻💕🦘
@@TiffanyW73 no problem, thank you for watching and hope you found some good ideas for gifting.
Thank you so much Anna. My daughter and I have decided to intersperse our large knitted projects with smaller ones, so we could create a "gift" bin of items to either gift or donate. Your episode came just at the right time! We are currently "down a rabbit hole" so to speak, finding all kinds of things to make, so thank you for the inspiration! Looking forward to your next episode. Greetings and hugs from Darwin … 🥰🌴🌴🌴
@@jenibylsma9845 I think that’s a great idea to build up a stash of gift or donation items!! Next year I will hopefully be organised enough to do something similar!
I am planning on making some scrunchies for some coworkers, and I might make some face cloth/dish cloths for some friends as well (time permitting!). I made the Pressed Flowers kerchief recently, and it's written in a way that allows you to do as many repeats of the chart as you like, so depending on how much yarn you have you can make it as big/small as you want. In Christmases past, I have made little stocking ornaments using a free ravelry pattern called Christmas In A Hurry 15 Minute Stockings, which uses dk weight yarn held double, and they genuinely do only take 15-20 minutes to make!
@@SimpleKnitCo thank you for that pattern recommendation Elina. I will have to check it out. 15 minutes per ornament would be great for last minute gift knitting!
Great ideas! I’m definitely going to add the little pressed flowers kerchief to my queue… for me though, not as a gift. 😉
he he he as a gift to yourself!!!
Lovely ideas! Might get my mum a ravelry voucher this year - hadn’t thought of that!
She will love it!
Great video - so many good ideas. I have another suggestion, for the knitter or crocheter that has a lot of single needles or hooks you could buy a case for their needles/hooks and cords. There are some really nice portfolio style cases to organise them all.
Oooh yes that is a good one! I guess if people accumulate lots of fixed circulars or individual hooks, it could start to get a bit messy and a case or folio to store them in would be super handy.
We use hot water bottles in Australia, depends where you live of course 😉
I do use one in the depths of winter but definitely not at the moment here in Melbourne. We are in a heat way - it was 28 degrees at 7am this morning. No hot water bottle necessary!
I agree re gifting to others once given it belongs to them to do with as they please. If they don't like it or look after it I know not to do the same type of gift next time. As I would with any type of gift, hand-made or otherwise. Anne ❣au
That's a good idea - don't get upset if someone doesn't like your gift, but make a note for next time to do something else.
What a great episode Anna - such a good idea to make some suggestions for gifts ❤ and thanks for the mention, so sweet!
Thanks for watching Kath! I have a lot of small scraps of mohair so I really should make some scrunchies (maybe as a gift for myself though lol).
Well thought out tips & ideas in this video! I'm going to share to Tom 😁
Thank you for watching Susan, have a good trip to the US!
This was indeed a very interesting and comprehensive video 🤓 and thanks so so much for mentioning me. It must have been your appreciation to motivate me to sew more - even before being aware of it 😍 xxx
Haha I did see you've been sewing up a stack of bags right after I published this video.
great yarn combo on your vest
Lovely blankets x
Ooo, your dream weaving trip to Adelaide sounds fabulous! I love glass art, too. Ana, that test knit jumper you are wearing is so stylish! I’m being enabled by Pia’s knit picks kit blanket- I love it! Hello to Julie 🤗
@@wildcottageknitting thank you Susan! We have booked our tickets to Adelaide now so we will be sure to vlog some of the trip.
You saw the wind wheels in action 🤩🤩🤩 love those!
Thank you so much ladies for another lovely episode! I can’t tell you how much I look forward to watching - it’s the highlight of my week! … 😁 Saw the episode was up a few days ago, but haven’t had any time until now to watch it in peace and quiet … Really enjoyed seeing your projects and hearing your plans. How exciting! Hoping to make it to one of the Perth craft shows next year, or maybe even the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Festival if I can psyche myself up to brave the cold lol! 😝 Look forward to your next episode … hugs from the currently sweltering Top End … 😅🌴🌴🌴❤️
Thank you Jeni for always leaving such kind comments! If you make it to Bendigo let me know, I am not sure if I will go next year but I am thinking about it.
Thanks for sharing the cinema experience! I’ve been wondering if anyone was doing that here coz I’d love to go.
Your tiles are so pretty! Love the ones on terracotta. And your bells! 🤩😍 Also totally gonna steal KOFO - brilliant term 👌.
You are making amazing video content. I just watched the video and your video quality is appreciable. I am so impressed by your content, I was analyzing your channel and noticed that You are struggling with video views and video ranking. May I share some tips on how you can achieve your goals?
I remember Il Papiro and Zetta Florence! 🙌
That’s so interesting that larger needles hurts your hands. I’m the opposite - smaller needles, particularly metal ones (and especially when it’s cold), are painful for me.
I hadn't considered whether the material would also affect it - good point! I guess maybe wooden needles are slightly more flexible than metal needles? I do have some wooden needles in larger sizes so I might try using them next time I knit something with very bulky yarn.,
Your weaves are so good! 👏🤩🙌
Thanks Bobbi! The SAORI technique is very easy for beginners to pick up. Heather has now moved her studio back to Templestowe, so we are thinking to go for another weaving day soon.
Loved your special guest!
He he he thank you! From Juliette 🐾
Great episode ladies! My sister moved to Adelaide this year and I’m planning to visit her early next year too. It’s a great city and some awesome knitters and yarn store there. 💜 I went to fibrefeast in 2021 and it was a fun day!
Thanks for watching! I would ideally like to visit yarn trader and skein machine while we are there. Hopefully we will have time. We were thinking to hire a car but probably just for one of the days, as we want to visit Hahndorf as well.
Hi Ladies! Absolutely loved this podcast - super excited to see Darwin get a look in! I can assure you knitting/crochet is alive and well, even here in the tropics (thanks to good airconditioning) … 😁 We have a local Spotlight and another specialist craft shop and they are very well supported. Us Darwinites feel like we’re freezing when the temperatures in the "dry" drop below the mid 20’s, so shawls, cardigans and sweaters are definitely part of our wardrobe. Also, as part of a storm chasing team we are often chasing at night and the bugs are horrendous, so it is essential to keep the feet covered - hence the reason I knit socks (a lot). My daughter and I knit/crochet/weave and spin daily and couldn’t imagine a day without it … 😊 By the way, I love your sock yarn Anna - it is soooo like the colour of our hot springs up here - just lovely! Also, really appreciated the rundown on test knitting too - that was extremely informative and helpful. Thanks again ladies …. Always enjoy visiting Lavender Cottage … hugs from Darwin 🥰🌴🌴🌴
Hi Jeni thank you for watching!! Good to know that the knitting community is going strong in the territory! It's very true that what feels hot or cold is very relative to what we're used to. I've heard in the UK people start wearing shorts when it's 20 degrees. I'm glad my sock yarn reminds you of Darwin, that's exactly what I was hoping for!!
So glad you enjoyed testing for me Anna and found the process inclusive! I obviously have a lot of thoughts on testing, but my (not so) hot take is that testers are actually doing the designer a huge favour by testing; and the testing process should reflect this. For me that means a long testing period, being gracious with feedback, offering a spot with yarn support, and flexible deadlines/being okay with testers not finishing or ghosting (I lose about a third of testers in the process and I take this into account when I'm choosing how many testers to have per size (at least 3) so that it's okay if someone drops out or changes size or I just don't hear back from them. Also of course, inclusivity is a big thing for me, not just the testing, but also for the finished pattern, both size-wise and disability-wise. I find about a third of my testers use the print disability/screen reader friendly version of my pattern - so I know it helps a lot of people! If any designers (or disabled people who have feedback about making patterns/testing more accessible) would like to chat with me about disability-focused accessibility for testing or the final pattern I'd be happy to chat! I'm on instagram @cnyttan.cnottan and ravelry as CnyttanCnottan. But the OG accessibility expert in knitting pattern design is Renee Van Hoy (@rvanhoy1 on instagram) and I totally recommend checking her out!
Hey ladies, this was a great chat, so much good info about test knitting! I've had a few of different communication options when testing- google doc, instagram message, slack, discord. I've only done small accessories or socks because of the time commitment and also trying to work from stash the last year and a bit. I love the community and chatting with others part of the test knit process. Only one time I haven't finished, the designer got enough feedback early and decided to release the pattern with about 2 weeks left of the testing window and I didn't end up finishing it 😬.
I feel a bit icky when designers finish a test early. It seems a bit inconsiderate of people who need the full time period and people who have taken a bit longer are potentially people who encountered problems with the pattern and I would think their feedback is potentially more valuable than someone who breezed through the pattern with no issues. Thanks for watching!!
@@lavendercottagefibrearts yeah I think that’s why I lost interest and didn’t feel compelled to finish. I wasn’t really likely to wear the finished object anyway so 🤷🏻♀️it kinda put me off testing for a while too…
Hi Anna and Pia - this was such a great chat to watch as a newer designer, especially as I never participated in test knits myself before becoming a designer. Lots of great feedback and things to think about - and I'm off to make some notes about how to ensure I keep improving the test knitting experience for future patterns. Your socks looks great by the way 😉
Thanks for watching Kath! Your test knits have all been very friendly and supportive!
Thank you for another fun episode Anna and Pia! I love the accountability plans, castonitis seems to be strong here too! I’ve been working on my Salty Days sweater that I cast on last Wednesday and I am obsessed with it! Thank you keeping me company!
Thank you for watching Ally! I've seen lots of people casting on the Salty Days as part of the MAL. I'm a bit envious but too many garments already on the needles for me.
I've been working on another pair of Zigazag Ah! socks while watching this video too! That will be a lucky baby to have a crochet (or knit) mobile!
@@Cnyttan.cnottan I want to cast on another pair but I will finish my O Me Miserum socks first.
I’ve broken a 2.75mm wooden needle….. was very cross with myself!
@@strwbrryfinchy oh no! I’ve heard that there is a bit of difference between bamboo and birch wood needles but I’m not sure which ones Pia purchased. Hopefully they will last the distance.
Those zig zag socks are beautiful! I’m gonna cast those on
@@strwbrryfinchy you will not regret it, they are such a fun project when you want something small but more stimulating than a plain vanilla sock
Thank you ladies! Was a bit late getting to watch this episode, but enjoyed it very much. I have decided I will have to brave the cold and visit Bendigo next year. Was super inspired by all the lovely goodies, and was very excited to see a Shetland lace shawl in the cabinet during some of the footage you showed! Definitely my kind of knitting … 😊 Look forward to your next episode - hugs from the Top End … 🥰🌴🌴🌴
Thanks for watching Jeni! I definitely wish I had taken a bit more time to look through the competition entries - so much potential inspiration!!
Was the craft shop in Elizabeth Street 'Clegs'. I know they mainly sold fabric probably some yarn?
It was a few doors down from Clegs, but I do remember the Clegs on Elizabeth street. I went to school in the city in flinders lane for half a year when I was in year 9 (2004) and I remember the clegs quite well.
Lovely podcast! More Juliette please! 💜
Juliette is very pleased to hear that she has some fans from youtube.
