Die Hard, with Shitpeas and Cunk - Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe
EDIT MARCH 2023: As many have noted, these clips hit differently a decade on from first broadcast, and following Willis' retirement from acting due to aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
Was this The One Show performance an early sign of that? In hindsight it could well be - although Willis would go on to star in a Broadway production of Misery two years later. But looking at his film credits, it's hard to see AGDTDH has anything but his last hurrah - Bruce Willis' final blockbuster performance.
I'm leaving this video up in part as a reminder that we never really know what's going on with someone - and indeed, they may not really know themselves at the time.
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Shitpeas: "Bruce Willis seemed sort of humble about how good he knew the film was, like he could hardly talk about it he was so humble... Seriously - he was so torn up with pride he just had to look at the floor and hardly say anything."
Cunk: "It had this brilliant trailer full of, like, amazing things happening, like explosions, and more explosions, which is brilliantly done - all the fire looks hot and everything..."
Lifeform Barry Shitpeas and Showbiz Liker Philomena Cunk share their thoughts on A Good Day To Die Hard, and Bruce Willis's performance on The One Show.

An extract from The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy BBC radio series by Douglas Adams, series 2, episode 2 (aka Fit The Eighth). Image is one of the 'Pale Blue Dot' photographs taken by Voyager 1 in 1990, showing the Earth from a distance of approximately 6 billion kilometres.

Even if it slips down the drain... Taken from the very marvellous UFOs At The Zoo DVD - buy your copy now! Or not, you know. As you please...
Keep in mind this was filmed just after him doing stuff like Moonrise Kingdom and Looper, he was still with it then. Probably just tired of doing press tours. It was a couple more years until his workload became mostly direct to video releases.
We were all right to read Mad Magazine.
esto es producti de la demencia frontotemporal, quizas desde cuando lo aqueja......, algunos dicen que desde el accidente en el set de "tears of the sun" en 2002.....
Peak Flaming Lips
I don't understand Shitpeas's accent, no wonder Cunk was more successful
Yes, this definitely hits differently 10 years later, following Bruce Willis' diagnosis with dementia. Please see the updated video description for some thoughts and notes on this.
"I'm leaving this video up in part as a reminder that we never really know what's going on with someone - and indeed, they may not really know themselves at the time." Well said
Well, in 2023, this isn't so funny now, is it? Thanks for all the exuberant excitement, Mister Willis. We laughed with ye.
those interviews they showed where he was having trouble speaking would have been early but well into his dementia prognosis - in fact, it would be the last major film he did before doing a bunch of direct to video that de-emphasised his speaking roles.
This certainly has not aged well. Be well Bruce.
Sad about Bruce Willis Alzheimer’s
I still cannot believe the One Show is still on TV. It's quite frankly the worst shit ever to hit a TV screen! And as for the presenters.. well just don't get me started with them.
Funny. Astute
Since his diagnosis this is not as funny anymore :(
Nope, it still is. I doubt Bruce had dementia back then. He was just being an a-hole here.
@@philmitchell91 A Grade 'A' A-hole!
I think that's called empathy
All the fire looks hot and everything
He has dementia
Not 10 years ago
Anyone else thinks that using Facebook is like peering into the total perspective vortex?
The first time I took took LSD, I thought immediately of the total perspective vortex upon looking at Facebook. It was terrifying, I saw only a pit of noise being spit into by the whole world, a Plato's cave whose caverns of stretched endlessly with shadow plays. I've been off of social media ever since, three and half years now, and it's the the best thing that ever happened to my peace of mind.
Brutal. Hilarious.
Sad that in hindsight, this could’ve been telltale signs of his mental decline and Alzheimer’s.
Look into the "Total Perspective Vortex" (or the "overview effect," as it is more blandly called!) ... There's a name for what Shatner felt: it's called the "overview effect." The term was coined by space philosopher Frank White in his 1987 book of the same name. "The overview effect is a cognitive and emotional shift in a person's awareness, their consciousness and their identity when they see the Earth from space," White told NPR. "They're at a distance and they're seeing the Earth ... in the context of the universe." This context was what struck Shatner the most. "It was the death that I saw in space and the lifeforce that I saw coming from the planet - the blue, the beige and the white," he said. "And I realized one was death and the other was life." According to White, everyone who travels to space experiences an "overview effect" - an emotional or mental reaction strong enough to disrupt that person's previous assumptions about humanity, Earth, and/or the cosmos. Everyone's overview effect is unique to them, but there are reactions that are more common than others. www.npr.org/2022/10/23/1130482740/william-shatner-jeff-bezos-space-travel-overview-effect
Ooooof, this aged poorly with his diagnosis and subsequent retirement. Feels pretty mean-spirited now
How has it aged poorly? Do you think he was ill all the way back then? Seems to me he was being an a-hole here. And go ask Kevin Smith what he was like to work with too.
Time machine logic error
Then it turned out he was trying to overcome something, he has asphasia.
It's sad to realise that he was actually suffering with early stages of aphasia
True.
No he's not, this was nearly 10 years ago, don't make excuses for his lack of basic manners! He's just a typical American 'star' that thinks he's better than everyone else.
@@thebaron9059 Maybe- I'd actually feel better if it was him being a twat
@@BLINDTUBEMARES I'm pretty sure it his him being a twat mate. He carried out a huge press junket for the film and was clearly acting 'normal' through most of it, save for a couple of bad mannered interviews, something he was already well known for. He still had a couple of high profile films to come, Red 2 and GI Joe 2 before disappearing into low budget tripe and his unfortunate decline at the hands of Aphasia. I quite enjoy some of his earlier films, but he got far too big for his boots.
@@thebaron9059 What a TWAT
Wow this hasn’t aged well. We know he had a neurological issue.
You knew back then he had mental health issues? I call bull on that. Everyone rightfully criticises his rude behaviour back then. I see no evidence that it was as a result of mental health problems.
Great clip! Check it out- th-cam.com/video/FPWZG9uKx0c/w-d-xo.html
Cool
Been loving the lips for 30+ years.. still cry when I hear this
really past the point of no return. I raise you two centuries. made it to annoy, my wife. she hates me
Blest
woooao (y) EXELENTE VIDEO
3:17 The way she leads back into 'praise' for the film just to dig at it EVEN more
This is, in fact, the most brutally scathing film review ever.
“He must’ve overcome something.” Well that aged well…
2:46 Looked a bit like Alan Davies there for a sec! lol
Damn! I wish Barry and Philomena had a weekly show. Hits my sense of humour on the nose.
I fucking love Bruce Willis.... ...in his early career. But.... My God! Let's be honest. Early 2000's action film became shit. But best of all. Bruce Willis became impossible to fucking interview!!!! I remember seeing that Oneshow appearance live and it was awkward as fuck! Why bother going to all that trouble if turning up if you can't answer a fucking question?!?!
Now I wonder if he was beginning to have issues with his speech already.
Where’s the cut away to Brush Strokes, Phil 😍
Fantastic Song!
This is brilliant.
Can anyone tell me the name of the music playing in the background?
Arvo Part Spiegel in Spiegel.
Check out my band's (Deadbeat Society) version of this amazing song (click my username). We rewrote the music but kept the melody, lyrics & vibe. It's about twice the speed also haha.
I met Wayne at a flaming lips concert a little while before this concert and I said they should play this song again. I think he listened to me.
sownd.
Brilliant.
Best movie-review ever.
'...all the fire looks hot an' everything..' has now become the go-to phrase to roundly condemn any movie as being totally shit.
"...otherwise he's a fookin' murderer!"
Main Drain Studios that girl is a fucking comedy genius
I love it, can you have a go at Eastenders?
Brilliantly funny.
WHOAH - Oh My Gawd track! Totally unexpected
I don't know why, but "in front of some black blokes in the '80s" is my favourite part of this video.
"He must've overcome something"...cracking up!
Indescribably incredible performance and Dvd.
