    No Sir ! Thank you ! 🙏 . I have learned so much by watching your videos about many things but it has all strengthened my belief in God . I have been a believer since I was quite young , 7 or 8 maybe , I just knew that there had to be a God . Looking at the universe today I say to people , there is no way all of this just happened . With that in mind , it leaves no other option , there has to be a God . I’m now a baptized Christian and I’m trying to learn how to show nonbelievers how to realize there is a God and to accept God and follow in the ways He wants us to . Take care and God bless everyone . Have a great day !

    This guy came on really strong… not sure it was even received by anyone… only inciting fear. Marriage and divorce is so complex, he should have broken it down to 3 or 4 sermons and focus on what Jesus says more than his opinion. If someone has legit reason to divorce (according to what Jesus would approve), this guy should have supported the person get support to help them divorce… not just say what would it be like to forgive the person. In all the scenarios, forgiveness is always required… but there are times when it is best to still divorce. This pastor messed up that part most. Look at King David… God redeemed that. The pastor should have used examples like that. The story of Tamar is another example, Ruth, even Rehab. So many examples and he didn’t talk about those.

    If you want to know about Ross, get the book Refuting Compromise A biblical and scientific refutation of ‘progressive creationism’
(billions of years) as popularized by astronomer Hugh Ross by Dr Jonathan Sarfati. Ross plays a game, and pretends to exude humility and sincerity, but he is proud, puffed up and arrogant. He deludes himself, and is greatly deceived, and deceives far too many who should know better. He obviously thinks he is some kind of gnostic. He writes a book titled "Why the universe is the way it is" as though he has all the answers. Ross is a Trojan horse to the church. He rejects the creation account, and contaminates scripture with Big Bang secular philosophies that directly contradict scripture. He rejects the global flood and says it was just a local flood, and believes there was death before Adam's sin, which is an attack on God’s goodness and character. Very serious ! He claims there were "pre-adamites". (people who supposedly lived and died before Adam). His faith is in Big Bang, and he has constructed a religious cult that conforms to it. Scriptural meaning is twisted to accommodate it. Don't be so easily deceived, people...Gods word warns of these types in the last days.

    This sermon was a wonderful way to reach those who would approach the resurrection with suspicion or cynicism. Many in the audience with years of Easter messages behind them may have been expecting more emphasis on the fact and features of the Easter resurrection. But this message seems to me to have been aimed primarily at the once-a-year church attendee who avoids church because of something like cynicism or suspicion. The message is just as important to the long-time disciple of Christ as it is to the one who's never found Christ. And Pastor Josh's way of helping those without faith acquire faith in Christ was a beautiful work of the Holy Spirit.

    Dr. Covolo made the passages far more understandable by using vivid descriptions of the situations the text conveys. He invoked our imaginations with helping us see what it must have been like to be present in the house where the paralytic was healed, etc. The call to action at the end--the call to receive Christ with the explanation that attended it--summed up the purpose of the gospel. Very well done and I left knowing Christ more as a result.

    The end of the sermon Pastor Josh brought out the point: surrender to Jesus, give Jesus control. Jesus is the King. The earlier development of the sermon framed the history that the apostle Mark was revealing. The reference to the political "gospel of Augustus" was particularly helpful in showing what a "gospel" is, and how it was used in the scriptures and before that. God with us. Very few distractions in this sermon: Pastor Josh stayed on track and it led to a sermon with clear purpose, easy to remember and apply.

  • @mxrc179
    @mxrc179 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This was one of Pastor Josh's clearest, simplest, and most effective sessions. His use of a photo of the sea of Galilee made it more real as we saw where Jesus began his ministry. His contrast of Jesus' call to follow Jesus, not merely Jesus' teachings-- versus how other leaders of major religions called their followers to follow their doctrines--this was very useful (too few Christians really understand how Jesus was unique in this way). Pastor Josh also made clear what it means to be a disciple of Jesus--to "live 24/7" with Jesus--and how our modern distractions are moving us away from Jesus. And Pastor Josh presented this all with a consistent conceptual tempo, moving from point to point with few breaks in the flow. This is a sermon worth hearing more than once.

  • @mxrc179
    @mxrc179 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Pastor Josh's expression of God's call to meaningfully and really help the poor, orphans, and widows is deeply needed, especially in a church with so many people with extra money and time. Thank you, Pastor Josh, for showing us God's insistent call that we physically, financially, and personally care for the poor and those who lack the means to care for themselves.

  • @mxrc179
    @mxrc179 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This was very well structured and easy to follow. The point that we are all different and that this difference or "strangeness" is a gift, is extremely important. It gets overlooked in the conflicts among people in the church and needs to be understood deeply and repeated often for the church to succeed. We're "not yet Promised Land food." What a great metaphor! Pastor Josh does a remarkable job in leadership as he works to help us through these gifts of difference.

    This sermon reflected one of the best approaches to explaining the magi and replacing myths with truth. It also encouraged everyone to take the correct approach to Christ. Drawing from the three examples (Herod, approaching Christ as a threat; religious leaders, indifferent to Christ despite knowing He would be born in Bethlehem; and the magi, who came to worship Him and learn about Him), Pastor Josh went deep into the meaning of Christmas and left us with an understanding we would not have if he had just done a "typical" Christmas sermon. Pastor Josh's deep understanding of Christian theology and his passion for making it accessible made this sermon particularly effective in leading us to Christ.

    Sadly, this sermon focused more on women rather than on God and what he has come to do in this world. At this Christmas (in particular), the focus should be on God's great work in this world and not about the women who were unnoticed and unseen (in a small village Mary would have been seen and quite well-known).

    • @tabbytea9
      @tabbytea9 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would actually say the sermon focused on the avenue in which God works (which can be through women); it was not women solely in their humanity, but through a lens that examines God’s role in their lives. Mary was definitely quite seen and known after the works of God in her life became so obvious, but prior, may not have been considered by others as anyone particularly special or a “chosen one” by God. I don’t know a greater work from God in this world than the virgin birth of a Savior for our sins.

    • @mxrc179
      @mxrc179 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To appreciate what God did, you have to know ALL the facts. Part of the context is that God communicates through an angel to someone who was poor, rather than rich. That was contrary to the thinking of the culture of its time. Poverty was considered evidence of one's distance from God. Another part of the context is that God communicated through the angel to a woman. Women at that time were dishonored. It's crucial to emphasize her poverty and her status as a woman to get the full depth of what God did. This is not "woke" or "progressive feminism" or anything else. It's emphasizing what God emphasized, when understood through the eyes of the people of Jesus' time. I'm very sensitive to "wokeism" and "progressive feminism," etc., and I detest both. But this sermon was not woke or feministic. It was simply accurate, emphasizing what God emphasized in the text. The text revealed details that need to be known to appreciate the depths of meaning in every feature of the account. If we ignore that God opened up the world to women in a way no religion other than Christianity had done, we miss God's work. GOD did that. God made sure women were shown as having equal value HE gave them with men. Many evils have come from perversions of undo emphasis on "women's rights," "equal pay," "#metoo" movement, etc. But that doesn't mean that every time the Bible or a pastor shows God's love toward the plight of women in the Bible that the pastor has fallen for the modern excesses of progressive feminism. Political ideologies like progressive feminism, etc., that violate God's word are as immoral and harmful to women as is the oppression of women. Both violate God's word. Unfortunately, Pastor Josh does in some sermons use language typically used in modern "woke" ideologies (like using "solidarity" to describe how we should relate to the "marginalized"; or his use of the term "social justice" rather than just "help" or "justice"; or presuming as true the prevalence of some vague "systemic racism" ). He sometimes misses the way he uses this language where it is easily misinterpreted. But he didn't do that in this sermon. Pastor Josh did focus on God, and used God's works, including working against a woman-oppressive culture, to reveal God's grace to humanity. We need to be honest when Pastor Josh goes astray into language that sounds Marxist or like "critical theory," etc. Likewise we need to lovingly and honestly call all pastors (and each other!) to account when they place undo emphasis on any modern ideological notion above the importance of the clear meaning of scripture. But we also need to be deeply charitable in our interpretations of what Pastor Josh is saying when all he is doing is revealing the truth of God from the word of God. He got it right in this one.

    This is the best, most meaningful explanation of how we should view the birth of Christ that I've heard. The explanation of the gospel authors approaching it from different views-- John, from the perspective of the origin of the universe; Matthew, from the perspective of Jewish genealogies and the significance of that to the Jews; etc. And then, the emphasis on the various barren women mentioned in the Bible who realized it was impossible to have a child--yet God turned the impossible into the possible. What a great --and true-- message for Christmas! Thank you, Pastor Josh for taking the time to work through this with us!

    The slide showing Gen 1:18b to read, "It is not good that the HUMAN should be alone" is not what Gen 1:18b says. It says "It is not good that the MAN should be alone." Even the reading of the scripture at the opening of the preaching states the MAN reference, not "human." You should not be altering scripture to conform to your desired meaning. Stick to what the scripture actually says. You can make your points about Adam and Eve and the events described about them applying to all humans without resorting to misquoting scripture. You're straying, Pastor Josh. Overall, the points you make about humans needing fellowship with each other and God are spot-on. They were important and true. But the means you get to that are questionable. Do you really need to resort to analogies or appeals to your preferred pop music affections? You act sometimes as if you're appealing to an unsophisticated youth group. You do not understand your audience when you do that. It seems like you're more interested in enjoying your recitals of your preferred music and pop culture than you are interested in showing analogies or examples relevant to the audience. Is the best you can do to use Harry Potter stories? Your favorite movies? Your favorite songs? Making it clear that you have favorite pop culture movies, songs, books, etc., and you want everyone to know what they are does not advance your preaching. It calls more attention to you than it calls attention to the message. Your appeal to the Deitrich Bonnhoeffer accounts made more sense and were real examples, not contrived or strained pop culture analogies. You're at your best using real examples of situations reflecting what you want to convey. Anything you do that is self-referential, like talking about (or singing!) your favorite pop music lyrics, being cute about the audience embracing your personal preferences for pop culture songs, stories, movies, etc., is unnecessary, and distracts from the scripture messages. Please consider these things. You have a lot more to offer than the exhibition of shallow self-referential pop culture affectations.

      Hi Mark! Thanks for your sharp and critical comments! I appreciate your thoughtful engagement with the sermon and your notes (even if they did sting a bit :). RE: The term “man” and “human” You raise an important exegetical issue…The word translated “man” in most modern english translations (in 2:18) is the Hebrew word Adam (אָדָם). It can be translated “man” but it can also be translated as “human” or “mankind” (look at 1:26-28 in various translations and you will see the word translated in that way- and the context makes clear when God says let us make “adam” in our image, it should be translated let us make “mankind” or “humans” in our image). You can see the same word “Adam” translated as “mankind” in Genesis 6:1-4 (and many other places in the Hebrew Bible). The Brilliant Hebrew scholar Robert Altar translates Genesis 2:18 as “It is not good for the human to be alone.” In context, it is obvious that the particular human we are talking about is male. But later in 2:23-24 when Adam breaks forth in poetry and says “she shall be called woman for she was taken out of man”, he uses the gender specific terms ish (man) and isha (woman). I wasn’t trying to fudge on the text or twist it to suite my point (though I can understand how you might hear it that way), but because I think that the statement in 2:18 was intended to be read by later readers as a statement not just about one man in human history, but about all humans (which is a larger interpretive judgment about what Genesis 1-3 is and how it is meant to function). This is not the only way to interpret it and I could be wrong to do so, but, based on my research, study, and interpretive judgment, I think it is a fair translation of the intent of the text. RE: Pop culture references…These are always tricky and I will miss sometimes and I will join you in often criticizing myself for failing in this respect. My only defense in this case: While my audience is not an unsophisticated youth group, every week during our second service there are 15+ middle and high school students sitting in the front three rows and 20+ young adults in the balcony. I am SO grateful they are there and I really make an effort to connect with the. However, It is tricky to speak to an audience ranging from middle school students to 85 year olds and I would just appreciate grace and your prayers as I try to do the best I can and often fail.
