    I use the Micro VR with a 15. I’m considering getting an overdrive pedal used primarily as a boost to distort this amp but the sound I get already is amazing. It’s not the loudest thing in the world but it seems to be able to work in a band since it pushes air from a wider surface area with the 15.

    When you have the Tweed going into the BJ cabinet (I assume that's what the arrow means?), it sounds SUPER dark. When you have the BJ going into the Tweed cabinet it sounds SUPER bright/thing. I can't imagine there is this much difference just swapping the amplifier (or speakers, depending on how you look at it). The difference is extreme. Were the settings you showed on camera the actual settings they were set to for this? I'm just confused how this could make such a massive day and night difference. I've listened to a lot of speaker and amp shootouts and usually the difference between any two is not so extreme.

    • @DisorderlySoundStudios
      @DisorderlySoundStudios 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree! I was surprised at the difference as well, I assure you that all settings shown are arcuate. At times, I use the same settings when switching cab/speaker in order to eliminate that variable, so what your hearing is only the effect of speaker and cab, and not EQ. (no post processing was done either). Speakers can make a HUGE difference!

      @@DisorderlySoundStudios Man, that just seems crazy. I know cabs can make a moderate difference, but not that much. I find many contradictions. You say you don't like the feel of e cymbals, but you opt for the worst triggers. The false hits, the double hits, the almost impossible possibility of playing ghost notes. That's annoying. Another aspect is that low volume cymbals, even if they are Zildjan, sound horrible. That's also very annoying. You say you want to get as close as possible to an acoustic kit, but you buy the most basic module! It was worth every penny if you bought the Edrum-in midi interface. Anyway... we learn from our mistakes.

    • @DisorderlySoundStudios
      @DisorderlySoundStudios 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I prioritized feel over sound, so the cymbal sound and cheap module does not annoy me. But I agree that false hits can be a problem. I use the PF-800. It does make a difference Live. Especially if u play Death Metal. Louder is better in certain types of Music. 🥷 200 doesn't hit the same as 350 no matter what ya mouth says and 350 doesn't hit like a 500 and a 500 doesn't hit live like a 800 on Bass. I know cause I've used all 3 many Times. The 800 gets much louder. 🤟

      @DisorderlySoundStudios 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Makes sense! For my 3 piece band it definitely cuts through, but I can see it not being enough in a band with two half stacks, especially for metal. 800 watts will definitely let you feel the bass!

    • @zengroove16
      @zengroove16 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DisorderlySoundStudios Indeed. I mean... each Artist has a way they prefer so to each his own but for me, as a Bassist in Metal over the years, I been drowned out by double, powerful, half staccs many Times to where nobody could hear me. I eventually came to the conclusion in a Band setting, I'd rather have too much Power and dial it down as needed than not have enough. One of many things I Love 💙 about #Ampeg is they offer many different versions to us Artists so we can find what's right for our current Gig or session. If I wanna go ultra light, like for a plane, I can just take Brooklyn and me Ampeg SGT-DI. If I got a Metal Gig or a incredibly loud Band practice, I got me PF-800 which I call SoFi. She's the best Amp I've ever owned. She's expensive tho'. If I was in a situation in which I couldn't afford her, I'd use gear like the SGT-DI until I could. Ampeg does make some terrific smaller practice Amps as well and I'd have no problem using those. Ampeg has awesome Tones no matter the size of the Amp imo. Thanks for the response 🤟

    • @DisorderlySoundStudios
      @DisorderlySoundStudios 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When you add speaker wattage, you take the lowest wattage speaker and multiple it by the number of speakers. So if you are keeping it a 212, it would be 25w x 2 = 50w cabinet. So you would be making a 160w cab into a 50w cab. Not sure what amp head your using but as long as its not over 50 watts than you will not be overworking the speakers. Since all speakers are 16ohms, as long as you wire it the same, the cab will still be the same ohms. Greenback speakers sound amazing to my ears and it will be a great upgrade in my opinion!

    so, if i want to bypass simplifier and use a real tube amp, I'll just use one instrument cable and connect the L output to my real tube amp input after enabling the THRU knob . And if i want to use it as a drive pedal or a preamp i will use the R output and enable the SUM mono knob. Right? Also what happens if i just connect either of L/R output to amp input without enabling any knob. No sound?

    • @DisorderlySoundStudios
      @DisorderlySoundStudios 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For your first question: Yes that is exactly what you would do, then you could use the XLR out as a DI while still playing through a real amp. Second question: Honestly not sure if what you described will work but it makes sense to me. You could also go out the preamp "Send" into the the front of your amp to use it as a drive/preamp pedal. (This will bypass the cab sim which is what you would want). Last question: You would still get sound but the Cab Sim would be in your signal and it would sound undesirable. (Although tone is subjective so you might like it). If by "without enabling any knob" you mean that you set every knob to zero including the volume, than yes, no sound.

    I always figured the breaking in idea was more you getting used to the way the speakers sound. There is a big change when switching from different kinds of speakers, or in my case when mixing, switching headphones or switching to speakers. If you practiced or mixed on the new speakers you'd get more comfortable with them and feel like they've been "Broken in" when you're just used to that sound. Seems like just another excuse for guitarists to explain why their recordings sound bad. When a little EQ could make up the difference is it really that big of a deal? Maybe focus on your performance and mic position before you worry about the subtle things.

    I've noticed in humid environments speakers don't sound their best at first, but after about an hour the heat from the tubes dries out the speakers in my old tube combos, then the speakers/amp sound like they should. There is likely some other reasons for the better sound, but the speaker being dried-out is important in my experience as a home noodle. What you say about bass frequencies is important too, get that surround moving to loosen it up. I'll hit an E chord (or whatever, big chords) with the volume off, and gradually turn up the volume to get the speaker moving. I do that with bar chords up and down the neck, along with cowboy chords in the first few frets. I've read dozens of techniques other people use. The first few days seem to loosen them up, then after maybe 100 hours they are likely even looser, many theories. I just go by my ears, and from that know humid air dampens speaker cones to the point I can hear the difference, and that after being gently heated by the tubes the cones work their best, vibrations flowing through them without water damping the fibers. Interesting subject, speakers are a bit of an obsession, and have accumulated many over the years, some haven't even been used yet. I find the old speakers with original cones sound best, I paid over $500 for a Celestion Vox silver bell with the legendary "pulsonic" cone. I see them as instruments themselves, since they are what transmit the vibrations, so paying $200-500 isn't outrageous to my mind. Cheers!
